Up for auction is this 1974 BMW 2002 finished in Amazon Green over a Saddle leather interior. Following car importer Max Hoffman's request for a sporting version of BMW's 02-Series to be sold in the United States, the 2002 was developed featuring a 2.0L version of the M10 inline-four engine. This example is said to have been originally imported to California before being brought to Illinois in late 2010. The exterior was repainted and the original interior reupholstered prior to the current ownership, and the current owner has addressed some issues such as a new fuel pump, master cylinder, radiator, fan, battery, fuel lines, brakes, choke cable, door locks, radio, speakers, door handles, and various interior parts and trim. This 2002 is now being offered for auction by its seller in Illinois.
Presented in Amazon Green (076), the exterior was reportedly refinished in its original paint color under prior ownership in 2009. Exterior equipment includes a sunroof, chrome US safety bumpers, chrome exterior trim, a chrome driver’s side mirror, square taillights, and 14-inch “bottlecap” wheels sourced from a BMW E30, which are mounted with Hankook Optimo tires. Some rock chips and minor imperfections are noted throughout the exterior.
The Saddle leather interior was also reupholstered during previous ownership and includes front bucket seats with a rear bench and matching door panels, carpets, and square-weave floor mats. Additional equipment includes a heater, a rear window defroster, manual front windows, pop-out rear windows, and a glovebox. The interior has been fitted with an Alpine radio, upgraded speakers, and several replacement buttons, trim, and handles. The seller reports all accessories to be operational.
This 2002 is equipped with a 2.0L M10 inline four-cylinder engine with a single carburetor, which produces up to 99 HP and 116 lb.-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Over the course of their ownership, the seller has diligently maintained this vehicle, including a timing adjustment and replacement of the fuel pump, battery, radiator, fan, fuel lines, brakes, choke cable, master cylinder, and other routine items.
