We are pleased to present this 1974 Porsche 911 RSR tribute finished in Mexico Blue over a custom black interior.  Showcasing widened fenders, revised styling and an upgraded 2.7 L engine, this 911 underwent a complete RSR-inspired transformation in early of 2020.  With a recent engine rebuild and barely any miles added since, this 911 is now being offered for auction in excellent condition and is ready to be driven, shown, and truly enjoyed.

This 911 was taken down to bare metal and professionally refinished in Mexico Blue.  The paint is stated to be in fantastic condition, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  The body has been revised with fiberglass front and rear bumpers as well as steel Turbo rear fenders and widened fiberglass front fenders.  Other noteworthy details include all-new glass, backdated markers, a ducktail spoiler, LED headlights and custom “Porsche” lettering.  This 911 rides on aftermarket Fuchs-style wheels which remain in excellent condition and come wrapped in Sumitomo tires.

The cabin of this 911 has been completely redone in custom black leatherette.  Modifications include a MOMO leather wrapped steering wheel, a Wevo aluminum shifter, black door cards with light red pulls, new carpeting and a Rennline pedal set with passenger side floorboard.  Custom blue and yellow plaid bucket seats have also been added with the rear seats done in matching upholstery.  The pedal assembly has been rebuilt with brass bushings and the original gauges remain in place along with the original dashboard with a radio delete applied.

This 911 has been equipped with a 1975-sourced 2.7 L flat-six engine which is mated to a rebuilt 915 5-speed manual transmission.  The engine is stated to have been completely rebuilt prior to installation and fitted with the following performance upgrades:

  • WebCam Racing Cams
  • Rebuilt Weber Carburetors
  • 92mm Cylinder and JE Piston Set
  • Rebuilt Heads
  • New Valves
  • Dansk Sport Muffler

During the time of the build a new clutch kit was also installed along with new wheel bearings, a 20mm front sway bar, 911 S suspension and rebuilt brake calipers.  With barely any miles added since the completion of the build, this 911 is said to be in exemplary driving condition.

The sale of this 911 will include a master key, books, and records.  If you are in the market for a custom air-cooled Porsche, this tastefully executed RSR tribute makes a fantastic choice.

Thanks for the comments. Very helpful. I’ve done a few of these projects. I know the challenges with these cars well. Congrats on a great looking build. I would go farther with Elephant racing suspension and later, higher performance brakes. The rear wheels look a bit forward in the fender profile, tucked a little too much and need spacers. Not criticizing, it’s happened to me a couple of times. Indexing the torsion bars and setting alignment can be tricky following complete disassembly. I like it a lot but would have to drive it or have it inspected at this level. Thanks very much for your responses.

@MattShaw Thanks for writing! We assembled the motor in house and I can provide all the detailed photos for you as well as receipts. It has about 100 break-in miles currently. Dry as a bone, sounds great, and puts out plenty of power.

This was stripped down to nothing. No noticeable damage or major repairs to speak of. There were a couple rust spots taken care of during the process (normal spots like the bottom of the drip rail and fender area where the rubbers sit). I bought the car out of Miami, Florida.

I'm unsure of the original color. It wasn't Mexico Blue though :) The car was Gray when I bought it.

I believe the wheels are made by Fiske but have to double check that. I had a couple working at the same time and can't keep them all straight :)

    A few questions before bid:
    - who assembled the motor?
    - original paint color?
    - any car history/damage ?
    - who is the maker of the wheels?

    Thank you.

@carsinc I believe it’s out of a 79. I can run the serial number and get right back to you with a more accurate build date.

What year 915 trans in the car. Notice it has the spring arrangement. This is a nice presentation.

  • carsinc (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

Some reason the M brake were retained instead of upgrading to an S package. You upgraded the suspension to S and built an engine with much higher HP. Seems only logical to keep the package consistent.

@MattShaw Thanks for the comment! To confirm, this does have the S setup. So larger sways and torsion bars, Billstein Sport shocks, and an added rear sway bar. With a lower stance, she's extremely stiff and handles very well.

Looks like a nice build. Can you provide more detail on the suspension setup? The add just says “S” suspension. That would add a rear sway, stiffer torsion bars and bilstein shocks. Can you confirm or add additional info? Thank tou and beautiful car!
