We are pleased to present this 1974 Porsche 911 Targa. Marking the inaugural model year for the G-Series platform, this Targa left the factory at Stuttgart in January of 1974 finished in Mexico Blue, and optioned with a rare Sportomatic semi-auto transmission. It had reportedly been cared for by the original owner’s family up until September of 2019 and is accompanied by an extensive collection of records as well as a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Having undergone a considerable amount of recent service, this striking 911 Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
This 911 comes finished in its original nonmetallic shade of Mexico Blue (336), one of the rarest and most highly sought-after classic Porsche colors. The black folding Targa top and tinted glass were optioned from the factory while the removable Porsche script side stripes were added by the original owner. As a 1974 example, this 911 came fitted with the slim rear bumperettes of the European-spec models. Exterior details include a chrome driver-side mirror, front window vents, chrome headlight bezels, chrome moldings around the windows, a black “911” designation on the rear end, and a “2.7” badge on the decklid grille. The seller notes only a few small cosmetic imperfections throughout the exterior, detailed images are provided in the gallery. New taillights lenses have been recently installed and the 15” Fuchs wheels come dressed in a set of new General AltiMAX RT43 tires measuring 205/60 in front and 215/60 in the rear.
Inside, this Targa sports a nicely presented black leatherette interior. The footwells are lined with custom Coco floor mats and the original AM/FM Cassette stereo remains fitted in the center dashboard. A fire extinguisher has also been mounted between the front seats. Factory equipment includes manual windup windows, heating and ventilation controls, a heated rear window, and a dash-mounted loudspeaker. The seller notes that the original dashboard remains free of cracks and that all instrumentation is working properly.
This 911 is equipped with an air-cooled 2.7L flat-six engine featuring Bosch CIS fuel injection and an output of up to 150 HP and 168 lb.-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a rare 4-speed Sportomatic transmission. Introduced in 1967, the Sportomatic unit was essentially a modified manual gearbox with a vacuum-operated clutch that was engaged as soon as the lever was grabbed by the driver, allowing manual gear changes without operating the clutch. We are aware of the comments regarding the driving of the car, the video uploaded shows that the transmission works properly and we will prepare another one showing the car driving around smoothly, however that video won't be ready before the auction ends unfortunately.

Speedometer does not work?
Your driving video is not sufficient. Could you post a regular driving video running through all of the gears - with video of shifting and the instrumentation display? Ideally I would like to see this driven from 0 MPH to 50+ MPH with video of gauges (RPMs etc). Thank you.

@gotspeedmotorsports Appreciate all the info provided however with the troublesome Sportomatic, a driving video is absolutely necessary.
@Cgt000 We understand that. That's why we have provided to everyone in this site all the information available , including pictures of the inside, outside, under carriage, engine, plus service records, a video that shows the engine running.
As you can see from the documents uploaded, the original owner keep this Targa in his family for 45 years, it only has 46673 original miles. A real gem

@TyStav The original Sportomatic transmission works properly. It has recently been serviced and it's actually really fun to drive.
