Up for auction is this modified 1976 Porsche 911 3.6 finished in Guards Red over a performance oriented black interior. Beginning life as a standard 1976 example, this 911 has undergone a complete RSR-style transformation which included widened steel Turbo fenders and an upgraded 3.6 L engine conversion. Showcasing extensive performance modifications and custom features, this 911 is stated to have been driven approximately 17k miles since the time of the build and kept up to date on all due maintenance. It is now being offered for auction in excellent running order showing approximately 17k miles (TMU) on the odometer.
This 911 was professionally refinished in Guards Red during the initial build in 2006. The paint is noted to be in great condition with minor road wear, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. Although this build was designed for the track, the seller states that this 911 was never raced and only entered in PCA driver education events. Visual features include wide steel 930 Turbo fenders, lightweight RSR bumpers, a Turbo/tea-tray rear spoiler, H4 headlights and 993 mirrors. This 911 rides on aftermarket 3-piece Cup-style wheels which are finished with black centers and come dressed in Hoosier R7 slick tires. The seller notes that the tape will have to be removed from the headlights in order to be road compliant.
Inside, the driver is situated in a black performance-oriented cabin with Kirkey seats and Schroth 5-point harnesses. A highlight of the interior are the rare pop-out windows and nicely presented headliner. Modifications include a full roll cage, a Fuel Safe fuel cell, a Momo quick-release steering wheel, Rennline kick panels and pedals, RS door cards, and a RacePak G2 lap timer. All gauges, electrical components and accessories are stated to be fully functional.
This 911’s original engine has been swapped out in favor of a 993-sourced Porsche 3.6 L flat-six engine which is rated at approximately 300 HP. The rear wheels are driven by way of a recently rebuilt 915 5-speed manual transmission with a Wevo Classic shifter. Performance modifications include an ECU chip, sport engine mounts, dual oil coolers and a dual outlet sport exhaust system. The brakes have been upgraded with 930 calipers in the rear, 993 Carrera calipers in the front, cooling ducts, Pagid track pads and stainless-steel lines. The suspension has also been enhanced with Bilstein heavy duty strut insets, monoball bushings, upgraded Weltmeister/Tarret sway bars, a strut tower brace and Turbo tie rods.
The engine is believed to have been rebuilt prior to installation however there is no documentation available. Approximately 15k miles have been added since the time of the build with all routine maintenance kept up to date. Having undergone a full alignment and corner balance, this 911 is said to drive beautifully.
The sale of the RSR-inspired 911 will include two keys and service records. Offering race-ready performance while remaining street legal, this 911 is a dream come true for a Porsche motorsport enthusiast.

@Tbbrooks The cables and heater valves are there but have not been used since I've owned it. It's a fairly simple system, so at worst it would likely need some cleaning and lubrication in addition to new hoses. If the car sells, I'll make sure the system is ready to be re-attached, at the buyers request. Thanks!

@JPD Just an added note, found record indictating fuel cell was checked in 2018 and found sponge and bladder in perfect condition. Pump, filter and hoses were upgraded at that time. Car has always been stored in my climate controlled garage since I've owned it.

@JPD Thanks for the questions. Fuel cell bladder is probably due to be changed out, depending on who you ask. It was installed in 2011 and has been fine for DEs.
Tires are dated 2018. 245-35/18s in front, 295-30/18s in the rear. I think the wheel widths are 9s and 11s, or 10s and 12s. They came off a 930. Rains are either the same or an inch narrower. Can't remember because the rains have never been used.

@Tbbrooks Thank you for the questions! The car comes with a clean New York title with no liens. She will also come with a standard bill of sale. This should be all the documentation needed to export or register the car just about anywhere.
As far as I know, the engine is from a 1995 993 that was wrecked before 2006. The mileage was not documented, but it was said to be resealed and freshened before being installed in this car, according to the previous owner. Unfortunately, I don't have any documentation to back up these claims, although my mechanics agreed there are signs of freshening.
The clutch was replaced in 2008 with a 915 Sachs Power kit when the transmission was first serviced/rebuilt when the odometer read 12k miles, or about 5,500 miles ago. It was inspected again during servicing in 2009 and subsequently in 2012 at 14,272 miles. When on the track, the clutch is on/off as opposed to a car that is regularly street driven which requires much more modulation and slipping. The clutch is in great shape, as is the 915.
The car comes with a binder of servicing and rebuilding receipts about an inch thick and includes everything the car has received since 2006, all performed by professional Porsche specialists in NJ and upstate NY. She is very well sorted.
The only other parts I have to be included, besides the spare wheels and tires are the original sunvisors, which were removed when the roll cage was bolted in. Believe it or not, they are worth $500-$800+ a piece! Thanks again!

Hi @BRSalbany. Not to beat the registration thing to death, but can you clarify if the car will be sold with a transferable registration, or is it on bill of sale? Couple of more questions:
Do you know what year/mileage on the 3.6 motor swapped in?
Did you have the clutch done when the 915 was rehabbed?
Any other parts go along with it, other than the aforementioned extra set of wheels and tires?

@Okstatedutchman Thank you for the interest. Disclosing the reserve would put the auction at a disadvantage and could potentially discourage otherwise interested bidders. I can tell you it is substaintailly less than it would have been two or three years ago when the market was at its peak. Also, to build this car from scratch today would easily cost well over $80K.
May I ask what the reserve is at?
@tommiller I found a couple videos on my phone from when we pulled the car out of storage at the end of February. She has not been run since, except to park outside the garage to take photos for this ad.
The first one is a cold start after sitting for the winter, and the second one is blipping the throttle after she had warmed up for a few minutes.

@RichardLumpp Unfortunately, NY does not do temp plates as far as I know, and with Covid the DMV is operating in limited capacity. You'd have to contact your local registry in FL to see what you need to get temp plates from them. The Hoosiers are full slicks and are technically not road legal in NY, and would be dangerous in the wet. You might be able to get away with using the rain tires and wheels as at least those tires have treads. It would be recommended to have some Michelin Pilot Sports or similar installed to make a long trip like that, and ear plugs.
How difficult would it be to get temporary plates (10 day) to be able to drive it down to FL. Also would we need to remove Hoosiers and replace with street rubber to make the trip.

@tommiller Thank you! I'll be happy to help ship the car to the UK or anywhere else for that matter. Have not had a compression or leak down test done, simply because I haven't had any concerns with the engine mechanically since I've owned it. The car does not smoke or consume oil, comes up to temp as it should, runs flawlessly and makes great power. I'll see about posting a video later today if possible.

@abacpm Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, timing and availability played a factor here. The level of detailing can also be very subjective. I personally choose to focus more on mechanical sorting over cleaning and detailing, especially for a track oriented car like this.
It always amazes me that some auction care are not detailed for proper presentation
@Jamesboyd58 Yessir, the spare "wet" wheels and tires are included. They've never been used, and will likely need rebalancing. She was registered in NY when first acquired, driven to and from the track (LimeRock, CT and Watkins Glen mostly) and the shop for maintenance. As the hobby grew, a truck and trailer were acquired. She is not currently registered, but could be very easily. She will pass NY State road safety inspection without issue.
Looks like a fun car. Am I correct to assume the wheels and tires in photo 104 and 105 are included? Is it currently registered in NY?
