Finished in Guards Red over a black interior with optional Sport Seats, this 1977 Porsche 911S represents the final year of the 2.7-liter engine. Family-owned since new, the seller reportedly invested over $30k to recondition the car after 24 years of climate-controlled storage. The seller indicated that during its hibernation all fluids were drained, the wheels were removed, and the car was kept on an elevated rack. This 911S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington.

Repainted in its original factory Guards Red color, this Coupe was configured without a sunroof and equipped with a driver’s side mirror, U.S. spec bumperettes, chrome window trim, aluminum rocker moldings, and factory 15” Fuchs wheels dressed in Michelin 195/65 R15 A/S tires. The seller indicates that the passenger door has dings and there are minor paint bubbles on the roof near the windshield. The front windshield seal and rear window seal have also been replaced. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The black interior features optional Sport Seats with tartan inserts, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, a lockable glovebox, manual crank windows, and an aftermarket radio with door-mounted speakers. The air conditioning unit is currently uninstalled and was reportedly operational when removed.

The air-cooled 2.7-liter flat-six engine was rated at 165 HP, driving the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The heater box exhaust manifolds have been replaced with headers, and an updated 11-blade fan was installed during the family’s ownership. Professionally maintained by a local Porsche technician, extensive and complete service records are said to be available

The sale will include a clean title, owner's manuals, toolkit, spare tire, car cover, and original parts that were removed and kept in a storage container.

Figured was catalytic converter but thought - nah can’t be for a ‘77… yuck. Never seen before - guess that’s a California thing?

  • Tfeinroth (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

    @Derekbou catyleter converter

What is “CAT” in reference to?

  • Tfeinroth (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Bruce914 Cat is in the parts container. I will send a pic of the door ding on the passenger door. It’s a very minor ding and can be easily pushed out.

  • Bruce914 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Any pics of the door dings? Is the CAT included? Need that for good ol California.

  • Tfeinroth (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Harrini1 the auction rules don’t allow the seller to reveal the reserve in fairness to the process and to the other bidders.

  • Harrini1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Tfeinroth so what will it cost me to get this car??!

  • Tfeinroth (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Harrini1 full compression and leak test done back in 2018 when car was in the shop for 6 months getting re-operational for the road

  • Harrini1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Harrini1 have you had a compression test done on the engine?

  • Harrini1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Tfeinroth it’s a beautiful car- I’m just not sure I’m going to meet your reserve!

  • Tfeinroth (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Harrini1 this is a drivers car. Only has 19,750 original miles, all very clearly documented in her maintenance records. Every old part is in the storage container. Car comes with optional sport seats, which are also original and in perfect shape.

  • Harrini1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Tfeinroth oh that’s great news! I’m looking for a car to drive with my daughter- not a collector car. We have a new 911 which she loves- but I want her to experience a classic 911.!

  • Tfeinroth (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Harrini1 the car spent 6 months in the shop being completely updated to be road operational at a cost of 30K+. I currently drive it about 150 miles per month. Only thing it needs is an oil change in 2K miles and needs to be driven.

  • Harrini1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Tfeinroth good to know- car looks great but I’m sure it will need plenty done having sat for as long as it has.

  • Tfeinroth (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Harrini1 , rot or rust any where in or underneath. I will take more underbody pics tonight.

  • Harrini1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

I couldn’t see underside pics- any rot anywhere?

Any early and/or original documentation would definitely be helpful to bidders...at least to this potential bidder.

  • Tfeinroth (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Derekbou thanks for the clarification. I have a huge container full of every old part, spare part, receipt and service manual so I will look this weekend.

  • Derekbou (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

I believe @area901 was asking about the original window sticker -given single family owner good chance some original paperwork is available which is valuable.

I also have a red ‘77 911S. Great option if you’re looking for a narrow body. Fully galvanized, brake booster, peppy 2.7 with nice low end response in the light body. They’re still under appreciated but some folks are catching on.

  • Tfeinroth (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

I am selling as a private party. There is no dealer invoice

  • area901 1 year, 6 monthsago

Is the dealer's window invoice available?

Thanks for the comments. I just uploaded a few pics of the under carriage. I will upload some pics of the service docs this weekend.

The car has not been modified in any way. It’s completely stock. There are some minor paint bubbles which will post today but no signs of rust.

Being that car has only 19,700 miles on it, the studs are in great shape and have not been replaced. The thermo reactors were replaced early in the car’s life as well as the 11 blade fan added.

  • wadds1971 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Modifying my previous comment somewhat, if this car truly only has only 19,700 documented original miles, I doubt seriously that the engine and trans have ever been apart, though updates could have been done. Still, age and inactivity can lead to deterioration of crucial seals and gaskets, so some comment on overall condition is still warranted. Thanks.

  • wadds1971 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

I would agree with the suggestion made by @Derekbou. This appears to be a very nice 911S, and being in the hands of a single family for its entire life should be a big plus, but storage for 24 consecutive years raises a LOT of questions, too. I could list them all, but the easier approach would be to document the most recent work done on the car since it was brought back into service again, e.g. is the repaint recent, and if so, why are there new rust bubbles and door dings? Or, perhaps the car was repainted before it was put into storage?

I would also suggest quite a few more pics. Full dashboard, all four wheels, undercarriage, BOTH inner door panels, more pics of both seats, etc. Basic condition of engine could be judged with current compression testing. Age of tires, brake and clutch lines, brake pads, fluid leaks? Carrera chain tensioners and pop-off valve installed? Studs replaced if broken? History of engine, trans. rebuilding? The car seems to sit a bit high in the front, or maybe low in the rear in the pics. Has the suspension been modified, or worked on recently? The list is almost endless, but you get the idea. With the cost of parts and labor to work on these old air-cooled 911's being what they are, bidders would like to have a much better idea what they might encounter should they win the car. On the surface, though, this car looks like it may be a gem. I do hope @Tfeinroth, the seller, will be able to provide much more detail over the next few days.

  • Derekbou (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

looks like a nice midyear - seller may benefit by providing photos of paperwork for the 30k of refurbishment
