The Ferrari 308 GT4 was originally sold under the Dino sub-brand and was the first Ferrari to offer a rear mid-engine V8 configuration and Bertone-designed bodywork. This 1978 example is finished in Grigio Titanio over Nero Connolly leather upholstery and derives power from a 2.9-liter V8 with quad Weber carburetors, a 5-speed manual transaxle, and a limited-slip differential. It comes equipped with a sunroof, air conditioning, and 14” Campagnolo wheels. This 308 GT4 was purchased by the seller about 12 years ago and benefits from replacements of the timing belt, steering rack, water pump, alternator, control arm bushings, upgraded sway bars, and a custom stainless-steel exhaust. As previously listed on PCARMARKET, this Ferrari is now being offered for auction out of New York showing approximately 81k miles on the odometer.

The 308 GT4’s bodywork was designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone and features an angular wedge-shaped profile with side air intakes, pop-up headlamps, and a vented engine cover. This example is finished in Grigio Titanio (3238) and equipped with impact bumpers, a driver’s side mirror, a sunroof, quad exhaust outlets, and 14” Campagnolo five-spoke wheels. The car rides on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 215/60 in front and 225/60 at the rear. The seller notes the exterior was refinished about 9 years ago and the paint remains in very good condition apart from some stone chips on the front end. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is lined with blue carpeting and features Nero Connolly leather upholstery covering the seats, door panels, dashboard, and center console. Accessories include a leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel, a gated shifter, air conditioning, power windows, Veglia Borletti instrument dials, and an aftermarket Sony stereo with Bluetooth and a USB port. The front seats were reupholstered about 7 years ago, the A/C has been updated to R134a, and the radio has been relocated under the dashboard from the center console. The seller notes the passenger-side window operates slowly.

Factory-rated at 215 HP, the mid-mounted all-aluminum 2.9-liter DOHC V8 engine features a flat-plane crankshaft, four Weber DCNF carburetors, and a custom stainless-steel exhaust. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The timing belt was replaced in 2001, and the alternator and water pump were replaced in 2019. Other services under current ownership include replacements of the steering rack, upper and lower control arm bushings, shock bushings, and upgraded sway bars. An engine compression test was performed in April 2024 showing an overage of over 170 psi. Service records are provided for reference in the gallery.

This sale will include an owner’s manual, a toolkit, a spare tire, service records, and a clean title.

I owned one for many years. Mine was a restored '79. It's hard to overstate how good these are. I moved up the Ferrari food chain over the years, but never had a better experience than my GT4. Comfortable, reliable, great sound, and mere mortals can turn wrenches on them. This one looks wonderful. Good luck to seller and buyer.

    Dear Shopcat,
The other day I sent PCarmarket link of over 300 pics. I will follow up with them tomorrow to see if they have down loaded them.

Any pics of underneath, or close ups of the areas along the rockers and wheel wells where rust appears? Would like to get an idea of how much rust there might be.

@dyerhaus whew ! so I sound like I knew what I was talking about lol.. I love these cars, sold mine for $25k years ago. Ferrari stepchild , who knew ? love this one

  • dyerhaus (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

@stevefixer - you're not wrong! Some time in 1976 (most sources say the "summer") Ferrari officially switched over to branding the car as a Ferrari. That's when "Dino 308 GT4" became the model name of the Ferrari, and no longer its own entity. I think what PCar Market is doing is just noting the generic story of the Dino brand since that is how the 308 GT4 began life. But, yes, a 1978 model would have definitely left the factory badged as a Ferrari and sold as a "Ferrari Dino 308 GT4".

Beautiful in silver/black! . I had a 75 in red/tan. I was told that the earlier cars like mine (pre '76) had the Dino 308GT4 badge (my 75 did) and then to help sales, the 77's on had the Ferrari badging ? this being a 78 has the Ferrari badge but the text says "sold under Dino sub brand" ? definitely not a big deal but I am just curious to tell that story correctly. I am sure there are Ferrari experts that can clue me in. thanks
