Up for auction is this 1978 Porsche 911 SC Coupe finished in Metallic Silver over a Black partial leather interior. A stand out among other examples on the market, this 911 has been under the care of its original owner up until 2019 and is being offered with extensive records and documentation including original window sticker and original dealer’s pre-order form.  With less than 5k miles on a fully documented complete engine and transmission rebuild, this SC is now being offered in excellent condition by its seller out of Memphis, TN.

This 911 is finished in its original color of Silver Metallic. Having had a full professional repaint in 1994, the seller notes that the car remains in excellent condition which is clear when viewing the gallery photos.  A few sporty factory features that make this 911 stand out include Bilstein sport shocks, all chrome parts finished in black, white rectangular fog lights below front bumper, factory 16” Fuchs wheels that wear Bridgestone Potenza tires.

Inside, you will find an extremely well-kept black partial leather interior that features factory Sports seats.  Highly optioned when new, this example came equipped with additional noteworthy features such as: an electric antenna, black roofliner, air conditioning, sunroof, 2 loud speakers in shelf below window, leather steering wheel, revised center console, and power windows. All electronics are said to be in working order.

Power comes from a fully rebuilt, numbers matching 3.0L flat-six engine that is capable of producing 180HP and 175 lb-ft of torque from the factory.  This power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a rebuilt 5-speed manual transmission.  Less than 5,000 miles ago, this SC  received a fully documented engine and drivetrain rebuild totaling over $15k.  In efforts to make this 911 more powerful in the process, the owner states that new head studs were implemented along with new chain tensioners and the re-profiling of the cams.  Adding a nice soundtrack to this 911 is a stainless-steel exhaust system with a Dansk muffler. This SC is said to be up to date on all general maintenance and currently stands in excellent driving condition.

The sale will include two keys, factory books, original window sticker, extensive records, Certificate of Authenticity, and the original tool roll.

Nice buy. Congrats. I'm glad this little beauty didn't wind up in the deal tank.

Mixed emotions about really nice SCs now being in the 50-60 neighborhood, but little doubt this buy will "age well."

The mechanical work done in 2010 is shown in the five page invoice grouping near the bottom of the photo list. Although it is a little small to read easily, it documents what was done......without a doubt much of the work was not necessarily needed but the owner had certain ideas of what he was wanting to accomplish. He just wasn't one to do things by shortcut. He wanted to upgrade the exhaust so he bought SSIs, then the Dansk to continue with the theme of adding horsepower (as he did with re-profiling the stock cams), then the air box. He just wanted to make the car better if he was able.

With that low of mileage, one would think not much would be needed for the rebuild. Head studs and pressure fed tensioners were an unfortunate oversight from the factory...

I appreciate the kind words......I had known about this car for some time and when the owner notified me early last summer that it was time - I nabbed it. What I wasn't anticipating was the spinal fusion surgery to come that I had to have in September.......now owning multiple 911s - that used to be all fun, has morphed into more than I can keep up with properly. First year SC in the best color (IMO), totally sorted mechanically, outrageous documentation and reasonably low miles....this is truly a very special SC.

  • Caymanorcarrera (registered bidder) 3 years, 12 monthsago

Sport Seats, essentially 1 owner, low miles.........wow.....it looks like this SC has it all.......it's gonna be big, and worth every cent!

  • Bola964 (registered bidder) 3 years, 12 monthsago

    Beautiful car. GLWTA.

  • area901 (seller) 3 years, 12 monthsago

Sorry but I am traveling and do not have any additional pics showing the underside that I can send in. I will be back late Sunday - I can try to take a couple pics then but I won't have ready access to a lift for complete shots. For what it's worth I will tell you that this was a southern car for nearly 40 years and always garaged........never driven in foul weather and never subjected to any salt or chemicals used up north or in the midwest where snow and ice is an issue.

  • halldean (registered bidder) 3 years, 12 monthsago

Are there by chance any views available of the car's underside? Thanks

The car was repainted in 1994 and it was a very good job........judging by the invoice I would be surprised if it was a "glass-out" job - but the owner (from new) was very keen on taking good care of his car. It shows very well though with a couple of areas that could stand to be color sanded on the ds rear quarter. You have to be right up on the car to see this - you cannot see it in photos.
The car originally had 6 & 8s when I got it as the PO had made the swap back in the 90s, for whatever reason but the fronts are 7s now. You can tell in some of the pics that were taken later so that has been handled. Actually that was the first thing I did when it got here to my garage.

Very pretty. Has it has any paint work? Has it been metered? Looks a little funny with 8 inch wide wheels in the rear and only 6 inch wide up front. Would be much cooler with 7 inch wide wheels up front. I know!!!! I can fix that. I'll buy it and add the 7's!!
