This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was built for the European market featuring slimmer bumpers and single-piece Bosch headlights along with a 2.8L inline-six and a 4-speed manual transmission. It comes finished in Signal Red over a black leather interior and has reportedly spent most of its time in Washington state while cared for by the same owner since 2013. Equipment includes a fiberglass AMG front air dam, chromed 14” Bundt wheels, and a paint-matched hardtop. Recent service includes new rear brake calipers, a new starter, a new center exhaust section, and new Bilstein shocks at all four corners. This rare 4-speed 280SL is now being offered at auction by its seller out of Oregon.

The exterior is finished in Signal Red (568) with a black convertible soft top and a matching painted hardtop. Equipment includes single-piece Bosch Euro-spec headlights, slimmer chrome-trimmed European bumpers, bumper-mounted fog lights, a fiberglass AMG front air dam, and a power antenna. The seller reports the passenger side front fender has been refinished in the past and shows some paint pimples as well as road wear to the front air dam, a crack in one of the fog lights, and a large paint chip ahead of the driver’s side rear wheel arch. The hardtop has some blemishes, the soft top shows two points of repair, and the seller notes some scuffs and scratches at the mounting points to the body. The chrome 14” Bundt wheels are fitted with Michelin Harmony tires from 2010.

The interior is upholstered in black leather and features two bucket seats along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include decorative Zebrano wood trim, an aftermarket Sony stereo, and a heater. The seller reports some wear to the driver’s seat cushion and some creasing in the leather, as well as a small split at the defroster vent on the dashboard. The seller notes all the original equipment and accessories are fully functional apart from the odometer, and that the true mileage remains unknown.

This European-spec 280SL is equipped with a 2.8L inline-six cylinder M110 engine which produced up to 182 HP and 176 lb.-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The R107 was factory equipped with power steering, a fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. The prior owner is said to have installed new rear brake calipers, a new starter, a new center exhaust section, and four new Bilstein shock absorbers.

This sale will include a clean title, the original toolkit, a first aid kit, a warning triangle, and a set of two keys.

@cascadia- just a thought on this R-107- with only 2.8 liters inline six motor and the WGT of a 280SL- well over 3,300 lbs I have a hard time thinking that it would be a fun sports car-I'm sure the manual trans add a lot -With you selling a lot of these I'll take your opinion and figure a plan-Thanks for your time and help Rob

@J4177 @J4177, in my opinion this is the way the R107 should ideally be equipped. The free-revving 2.8L Six combines with the 4 speed to make the driving experience much more enjoyable and interactive.
I've sold over 50 R107's over the past 20 years, and of those, have had less than 10 Euro-spec examples with the manual transmission. They're hard to find, but I do prefer them over the V8/automatic versions.

Manual? Interesting! How do these drive with a manual transmission; and compared to an auto?
