1979 Porsche 924

Up for auction is this 1979 Porsche 924 finished in Guard’s Red over a brown leather interior.  Equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission mated to a 2.0 L inline 4-cylinder engine, the 924 was introduced as Porsche’s original front-engine sports car.  This 1979 example is said to remain in excellent overall condition with a comprehensive full service and inspection performed in November of 2019.  Showing approximately 27k miles on the odometer, this well-maintained Porsche 924 is ready to begin its journey with a new owner.

Reported to have been fully repainted under previous ownership, the exterior finish is said to remain in fantastic condition while displaying minimal signs of wear.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  Distinctive features include pop-up headlights, a large glass rear hatch and factory 14” black finished wheels which are currently dressed in an older set of Michelin tires.

The brown interior is said to be in excellent condition with a protective cover placed over the dashboard that shows only one area of slight warping.  Factory features include power mirrors and a Blaupunkt radio.  The cabin is noted to be highly original with the only modification being an attractive gauge on the center console.  The seller confirms all gauges electrical components and accessories to be fully functional.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 2.0 L inline 4-cylinder engine rated at approximately 125 HP.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a desirable dogleg G31 5-speed manual transmission putting ultimate control in the hands of the driver.  In November of 2019, the current owner had commissioned a full inspection followed by a comprehensive mechanical service at a cost of over $3k.  During this time the following maintenance items were performed.

  • Remove and Replace Engine Oil Pan Gasket
  • Remove, Reseal and Replace Rear Transaxle
  • Remove and Replace Drivers Inner Tie Rod
  • Electrical Diagnostics
  • Remove and Replace Fuel Pump
  • Fluids and Filters Changed

The seller notes that a timing belt service had also been carried in June of 2019.  Having been driven sparingly since the completion of the recent service, this 924 is stated to be in exemplary driving condition.

The sale of this 924 will include the original owner’s manual, two keys, the original stamped warranty book and service records.  Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to own a classic front-engine Porsche.

@PCARMARKET I've been on this site for a while and I still don't understand how Deal Tank works. Sometimes there's a "Buy Now" button with an amount, other times not. I think the "How it Works" section definitely needs some elaboration.

@raymundo Hi, I know you are new to the site but there is a difference between "bids" in an auction and "offers" in DealTank. You can read the "How it Works" section with related documentation or you can use the "contact us" form at the bottom of the website to open a ticket and we will be happy to call you and explain the difference. Thank you

@PCARMARKET interesting, thanks for reply. when I search on 924, a page shows up with several listed. for this one is says 2 days left and no bids yet even though there have been bids. for others it says, 'current bid $x, this auction ended'. it's hard to tell how reputable a site is, with inconsistencies like this.

@raymundo This is no longer an auction, this is a DealTank listing and the seller is open to offers. This is the actual VIN (17 digit VINs started in 1981). Thank you.

@SWVintage am interested in bidding, but am finding this site confusing. looks like the auction is still open for a couple days although there hasn't been much conversation in several weeks. Can you send me the actual VIN because what you have listed is not a valid VIN?

@ninpo4me Look at my 924S-Special Edition on The deal tank. 146k miles extensive mtc history, 1 of 500 U.S. market, non sunroof rare, and 160hp etc, etc and mine was painted red by original owner and it had orange flame decals like a hot rod on the sides which the second owner removed when the elderly couple bought it, stupid move but hey, the car has never had body work. Some people just do weird things. Original interior 146k miles and the dash looks 99% new still which shows among other things how well it's been cared for. Make me an offer! ;)

Can you please confirm if the AC and the heater works?
The slide levers tend to get brittle with time.

@ninpo4me @ninpo4me, color change. Interior is all original and excellent. Miles are original.

Is there any information on why such a low milage example needed a repaint? These cars have 5 digit odometers. Is it possible that this car has over 100k miles?
