Sold under the Datsun brand in North America from 1979 to 1983, the Nissan 280ZX (S130) is an evolution of the original Fairlady Z and was named Motor Trend’s Import Car of the Year in 1979. This 1980 Datsun 280ZX is a limited-edition 10th Anniversary model featuring a special black and gold finish, commemorative decals, a T-top roof, leather seats, and a numbered interior plaque. One of only 3,000 produced in total, it was purchased new from Crown Datsun of St. Petersburg, Florida before being driven cross-country with its original owner to Oregon and then later to Connecticut where it remained up until 2016. It was next owned by prominent Z-Car collector Larry Stepp and was featured in the recent book Nissan “50 Years of Exhilarating Performance” as part of his collection. This Datsun later changed hands with another Z-Car collector who stores it in the seller’s climate-controlled showroom. With approximately 12k miles on the odometer, this rare 10th Anniversary Datsun 280ZX is now being offered for auction out of Oklahoma.

Out of the 3,000 Datsun 280ZX 10th Anniversary editions produced in total, 2,500 were finished in a black and gold paint combination. It came standard with commemorative decals on the fenders and rear hatch, headlights washers, pinstriping, black window trim, and a T-top roof with removable glass panels. Other equipment includes dual power mirrors, a retractable antenna, chrome body moldings, rear window louvers, and 14” alloy wheels with gold accents. This Z80ZX rides on its original Goodyear Wingfoot tires and is described to be in excellent overall condition. The seller adds that the car has spent its life in climate-controlled storage and a layer of ceramic coating was applied in recent years. Detailed images and paint meter readings are provided in the gallery.

Inside, this Datsun features tan leather bucket seats with matching carpets and door panels contrasted by a brown dashboard, center console, and two-spoke steering wheel. A special edition plaque ahead of the shifter reads the car’s production number of #2212 out of 3,000 produced in total. Accessories include automatic climate control, power windows, cruise control, a Hitachi AM/FM cassette stereo, period coco floor mats, and auxiliary gauges mounted in the center dashboard including an oil pressure gauge, battery voltage meter, and a digital clock. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

This Datsun is equipped with a fuel-injected 2.8-liter L28 inline-six engine rated at 132 HP and 144 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed manual transmission and stopping power comes from four-wheel disc brakes. The seller indicates there are no outstanding service items at this time.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, the original spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a super nice ‘Original Survivor’ 1980 Datsun 280zx 10th Anniversary Edition, which can be seen in the pics as we have restored nothing. This car is as honest of a time capsule as it gets, as it still sports its Original Goodyear ‘Wing foot’ tires that have never been separated from the wheels, along with all its original factory assembly line red, blue, and yellow inspection markings, all while the car had its 12k original miles added to it. Everything on the car works, all the way down to the working AC system that is untouched and still running its factory R12 Freon, which is due to the pampering care this example has had its whole life. The Anniversary 280zx’s are gathering rapid attention and value after a few recent auction results, with a recent 28 original miles 10th Anniversary surpassing $200k at last year’s Mecum Auction in Monterey, so do keep in mind how impossible it is to find a super clean low mileage survivor sporting Original Paint, Original Weatherstripping, Original Interior, Original Decals, Original Tires, Original Assembly Line Inspection Markings as an untouched car with no need of restoration to proudly display.”

@indycarr177 We do not have the window sticker, but there is gentleman out there that will reproduce one for people, as I have seen his work with other Z cars.

The exhaust system as a whole looks sound, and there isn’t any exhaust ticking or noise at the engine header on fire up, so it is very sound as can be heard in the walk around video.

  • indycarr177 (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

Don’t know if this has been asked before, but do you have the window sticker for the vehicle? Also is there any perforations in the exhaust system?

  • 240zGuild (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

@indycarr177 Hadn’t seen a new PM come in, so you may want to try again, or you can also ask here.

One of my favorite past times is to maintain all of my vintage cars. I look at this engine bay and quite honestly, it scares me! Hoses, tubes, connectors... Yikes! If you dropped a wrench in there, it could remain for decades! lol

They are now in the gallery, so please don’t hesitate to let me know if anything else is needed
