Available for auction is this 1981 Mercedes-Benz 380SL finished in Silver Blue Metallic over a Blue MB-Tex interior. With a production run of nearly 20 years, the R107 SL-Class provides classic Mercedes-Benz styling while offering a more contemporary driving experience than any of its predecessors. This example was acquired by the seller in 2020 and has been treated to a refurbished interior as well as an updated timing chain. This V8-powered R107 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York while showing just over 96k miles on the odometer.

This R107 is finished in Silver Blue Metallic with a blue convertible soft top and a color-matched hardtop roof. The seller reports that the soft top was recently replaced with a new OEM unit and that imperfections are limited to a few chips at the front end and a small section of wear on the trunk lid. Detailed images can be found in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  Equipment includes North American market quad headlamps, a power antenna, chrome trim and moldings, front fog lights, and a set of 14” Bundt wheels which have been recently refurbished, powder coated, and come dressed in a set of Michelin Defender tires from 2015.

The cabin is trimmed in Blue MB-Tex vinyl upholstery with matching carpets, door panels, and a dashboard accented by Zebrano wood veneers. The seller reports the cabin has been refurbished with new seat covers, carpets, a dashboard cap, and an upgraded Alpine stereo system with new speakers and Bluetooth connectivity. Amenities include cruise control, power windows, power door locks, and automatic climate control. The seller confirms that all gauges and accessories remain functional apart from the air conditioning.

Power comes from a 3.8-liter M116 V8 engine which produced up to 201HP and 232 lb.-ft of torque when new. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission. The R107 was factory equipped with power steering, a fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. The CARFAX report includes four service history records dating back to 2005 and most recently an oil and filter service was carried within the last 1,100 miles. Additionally, the seller notes that the brakes were serviced within the last 2k miles and that the timing chain was updated within the last 10k miles.

This sale will include a clean title.

@NineThirty the soft top is less than 2 years old and works perfectly. The hard top is also in perfect shape.

@HK_Motorcars Got it thanks. Does the top function as it should?

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@NineThirty if you can find a few cans on the old stuff you can recharge it and you are good to go. The upgrade would take new fittings to recharge it.

Seller any idea why the air conditioning is not working?
