Porsche reintroduced the Super Carrera (SC) moniker on an evolution of the G-body 911 for the 1978 model year. Initially available as both a coupe and a Targa, the SC boasted a larger engine with an aluminum crankcase and several design enhancements. This 1982 example comes finished in Black over matching upholstery. Benefitting from a Carrera chain tensioner upgrade and a host of service items throughout the past 4 years, this Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

This 911SC is finished in Black with a black Targa band and removable roof panel. Other equipment includes front fog lights, headlamp washers, a heated glass rear window, a fender-mounted antenna, a tail panel reflector with “PORSCHE” lettering and 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels dressed in Sumitomo tires from 2022 driven approximately 1k miles. The seller notes a hand-sized dent in the left rear fender, a very small dent on the rear decklid, and small imperfections on the hood. The left side mirror appears to have been replaced, as red paint on the edges has been identified, and a new windshield has been installed. The seller adds that the Targa top does not sit flush as it is not a perfect fit. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin presents Black leather and vinyl upholstery along with matching carpets and a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel. Accessories include power windows and mirrors, a quartz clock, a locking glovebox, a trunk-mounted 6-disc CD player, and an aftermarket Alpine AM/FM radio & cassette player. The seller adds that an aftermarket dashboard overlay has been applied, additional floor rugs have been fitted, and slight scratches on the side window tints are noted. The speedometer reads 10 mph above the actual speed, the odometer and cruise control are inoperable, and the window washers have been sacrificed in favor of an A/C evaporator in the front left wheel well. The seller adds that the rear window defroster and headlamp washers are inoperable. All other gauges are reported to be working properly.

An air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 180 HP and 175 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller adds that a Carrera chain tensioner was previously installed, and recent service items have included the oil lines replaced, sensors & thermostats replaced, shift guides replaced, valves adjusted, spark plugs replaced, some throttle and clutch pedal issues repaired, and the CDI ignition box replaced. The seller notes a 150A alternator has been fitted to support a Classic Retrofit Electro Cooler Electric A/C system, and this system’s hardware is ready for final wiring and freon charging which have not yet been performed. Additionally, the first synchronizer ring is not working and requires the driver to double shift to first gear and move slowly to downshift from 2nd gear to 1st, while all other synchronizations are reported to be working.

This sale will include a clean title, a car cover, a mechanic repair manual, installation hardware for the retrofit a/c, and the original front-mounted spare tire.

The seller would like you to know: “I've garage-kept this car in Florida since 2006, it's a real eye-catcher, gets a lot of thumbs up on the road and comments at fuel stops, and it runs like a Porsche should.”

Don't know why carfax goofy, the car did come with
the origional window sticker that said sold in New York, I bought this car fron a guy in Pensacola Fla. who said he just flipped cars from a contact (dealer?) in S. Carolina he claimed the owner before me traded for a Toyota sports car, in the owners manual packet in the car is an insurance card for someone in S. Carolina , so I think ownership is 1, origional New York guy, 2, S . Carolina guy,3, guy who brought it down to Fla. to flip it up me and 4, me. The odometer stopped working several years ago and I just never got it fixed, I only drove this car for pleasure so.... I am insured with a collector ins. company for less than 3000 miles a year and really don't think I do 1500 miles a year since I've owned, my guess is 30000 mi over what's indicated, I realize that's just me talking but that's the truth.

CarFax doesn't show ownership (e.g. Owner One, Owner Two) as it typically does. Maybe I am missing it. Why is mileage TMU? Thanks

Thanks NickW21, I'll be missing this beauty in my garage.

  • NickW21 (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

I have a similar car. 1979 SC Targa. Runs like a champ at 177k miles. These things were built to last forever. AND if it does actually die, you get the enjoyment of bringing her back to life! You can do just about anything yourself on these cars. She's a beauty. GLWTA!

  • Lanciaman56 (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Sorry I don't have that info., best I can say is engine runs strong with no smoke , small puf of smoke after sitting several days as all air cooled do.

A comp. and leak down test information would be appreciated.

@targaman55 Yes there is a reserve. My age (75) necessates me selling my favorite car, I no longer feel safe in a car that has a "need for speed". The A/C is 90% installed , all hardware is in waiting for the next buyer to finish electric and freon charging, I no longer have the dexterity to finish, all instructions to finish are included, keep in mind the 150a alternator is already installed as it supports the all electric a/c compressor thus no compressor connected to the engine dragging it down, the blower is working thus the vents for windshield fogging up are working, 3 speed fan). Any other questions, please ask. Thanks

@targaman55 My age no longer allowes me to enjoy this enjoyable car. I grew up in a Porsche family so I have always been partial to air cooled Porsches. I am 75 years old now, my father's 1st purchase of a Porsche was 1961. The all electric retro air conditioner is fully installed, the wiring is 90% complete, I simply no longer have the agility to finish the build, if you decided to purchase I have all printed instructions to finish. Any other questions please ask.

  • targaman55 (registered bidder) 1 month, 4 weeksago

    Is there a reserve?

    Why are you selling it?

And did you say A/C will be installed?

  • Lanciaman56 (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

I'm available to answer any questions, just ask.
