First produced in 1960, the 40-Series Land Cruiser has gained recognition as one of the most capable and durable off-road vehicles of all time. This 1982 example is said to have been refurbished under previous ownership in South America before being imported to the U.S., and it was then acquired by the selling dealer in 2022. Powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, this FJ has been refinished in non-metallic blue over black vinyl upholstery. It is now being offered for auction out of California.

This example is said to have been refinished in its current shade of blue as part of the restoration. It features a black soft top and rides on 15” steel wheels with bright hubcaps and new Goodyear Wrangler A/T tires. A matching spare wheel and tire are mounted to the rear swing-our tire carrier. Other equipment includes steel bumpers and dual fender-mounted mirrors. The seller notes some scuffs and imperfections on the bumpers, a missing button on the soft top, and the driver’s side door handle requires attention. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features black vinyl upholstery complemented by painted body-color accents. Equipment includes a three-spoke steering wheel, front bucket seats, two inward-facing rear jump seats, and air conditioning controls. The seller notes some signs of wear on the interior of the doors. All gauges and electronics are reported to be working properly, although the stereo is currently disconnected.

This FJ40 equips a 4.2-liter inline-six engine sending power to the rear or all four wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The seller states repairs were performed on the hand brake & brake master cylinder, replacements were made to the rear main seal, flywheel, clutch assembly, clutch slave cylinder, oil pan gasket, upper radiator hose, and other necessary components since November 2022. Itemized service records are available for viewing in the gallery, and no outstanding maintenance items have been reported.
