We are pleased to present this low-mileage 1983 Porsche 944 Coupe for auction.  Purchased from the original owner in 2004 with 11k miles on the odometer, this vehicle is said to have been garage kept and cared for throughout its current ownership with only 4k additional miles driven since.  This rolling time capsule is now being offered in great running condition out of New Jersey.

The exterior of this 944 is finished in Black and is stated to be in good overall condition with noted areas of wear (detailed images are available in the photo gallery).  A few exterior details include integrated fog lights, pop-up headlights and 15" factory cast alloy Cookie Cutter wheels which come wrapped in Dunlop tires.

Inside, you will find a Black interior that features black and white cloth pinstripe seat inserts and door cars.  The cabin is reported to be in excellent shape with all accessories in working order aside from the right-side power window.  The seller also notes that a dash cap is present with only one noted crack on the dashboard itself.  Noteworthy interior details include a sunroof, air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors and an aftermarket Pioneer head unit which was installed under current ownership.

This 944 carries a naturally aspirated 2.4L inline 4-cylinder engine that sends approximately 150 HP and 142 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a smooth 5-speed manual transaxle.  The 944 accelerates from 0-60 in under 9 seconds while reaching top speeds upwards of 130 MPH.  Maintenance records indicate that this 944 is up-to-date on all scheduled service and the seller notes a service was performed in 2005 as well as in 2012 (records will be included with the sale).  Recently addressed items include: new hood struts with new hood insulation, new rear shocks, replaced fuel filter, all new rubber lines including the clutch, break lines and vacuum hoses as well as rear hatch struts.  This 944 is being offered for auction in great driving condition.

The sale of this low-mileage 944 will include two sets of keys, a sunroof bag, one spare, original tools, clear front bra and comprehensive service records.  If you have been searching for an early production Porsche 944, this outstanding 1983 example makes an excellent choice.

@Freemaha Concerning the actual mileage. I bought the car in 2004, the NJ title was clean and showed about 11,000. I did the usual checks on any used car, the floor mats/rugs were not worn, the brake and clutch pedals were not worn and the odometer agreed with the title. I don't what else to tell you It was clean. This vehicle is a 15K mile car!

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I am very certain this is not a 15k mile example. Original stereo removed, crack in the dash, replaced parts in the engine bay. You typically do not see this in a preserved low mileage 944. At 15k miles the engine bay should be much more pristine and no parts would need replaced. It however a very nice driver and it looks to be a great condition overall.

Is this claimed to be a genuine 15k original mile car?

@Freemaha Thank you for your comment. The dash has a stress cut under the cover. The cover is not attached permanently giving the buyer the option of repairing it

  • Wassergekuhlt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Freemaha it does because it has one. It’s in the listing I’d be bidding on this up to a point but I’m done with black cars.

These cars were assembled by Audi and the paint is not 911 paint. All this discussion about paint is non-productive. 944s are difficult cars to paint and if the car was repainted, one can tell from ten feet away. An amazing time capsule with the pin stripe seats. Better than Porsche logo seats GLWTS

@baldkingpin Thank you for your comment. !983 was the first year for the 944, perhaps setting up a new production line had some issues. Anyway, I feel better that my car has the original paint and was never in an accident. The car still looks great and is fun to drive.

I sold a show-winning '85 944 (yellow dial, pre-'85.5) on BaT a year ago and it had a very similar original paint profile. The amount of orange peel was kinda crazy but was factory original (I did lots of research, saw some time-capsule sub-10k mile cars at shows for comparison, etc.). Would never pass today's standards but thought it was worth chiming in to let potential buyers know this paint could well be all original.

@sydro I had the same reaction

  • sydro 3 years, 8 monthsago

@944-1983 Thank you for the info. I'm sure it is normal, but very interesting how varied the numbers are.

This is the seller again about the paint depth. I took the car to a dealer and he did he paint depth analysis on every panel on the car. The results are in the ad. He said the car was not repainted, it had to have come from the factory like that! The effect is much more pronounced in the pictures. I had to look at it from a certain angle to see it. The actual depth pictures tell the real situation. Thanks for the xomments. By the way, it's still fun to drive!

@sydro Thank you for your comment. You're not the first person to ask about orange peel. So, I took the car to an autobody expert yesterday and he said no orange peel but when I looked at the pictures more closely I see why you questioned it. I looked at the car where the orange peel exists in the pictures and it's the polish, it went away when I rubbed it.
I am doing a paint depth analysis to ensure you have the correct information. Thanks for pointing it out.

    @944-1983 Hello,
Are you certain that this car has original paint? I am no expert, but from what I see in the pictures, it looks like way more "orange peel" than I would expect from original Porsche paint.

  • 944-1983 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

15k -1983-944. This Very low mileage car has been garaged with a cover. It is in really good shape. Never in an accident, original paint, service records available, low reserve.
I am committed to answer any comments

  • 944-1983 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Swiftmotoring I do not know what a contract seller feature but I'm sure the guys who the auction know, can I get back to youj?

  • 944-1983 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Thank you for your questions. Sorry I do not know anything about the depth of the paint. I can say that the original owner was a policeman and told me he kept the car in storage. I kept it garaged with a cover so the original paint is in very good condition, a few surface scratches that do not go thru the primer. Never had an accident. I have to look in my garage for the original radio, I may still have it. Sorry I don't really remember. The model is 944, nothing else that I know about. 1983 was the first year of the 944. The car has a series of numbers including the fact it was built in W. Germany. If that's the option codes I'd be happy to send you a picture but I wouldn't be able to do it until Tuesday, I'm away for the weekend. Thank you again for your interest. I love the car but I just turned 70 and it's time to move on.

Does PCAR Market have a contact seller feature? I would like to contact the owner to discuss the 944.
    Thank you.

  • Swiftmotoring (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Great looking early 944. Can the seller tell me if there has been any paintwork? Paint depth readings on all panels would be a big help.
Any chance the seller has the original radio and/or which model the 944 was equipped with.
Maybe I missed it but do you have a photo of the option codes?
    Thank you.
