Available for auction is this European market 1984 Mercedes-Benz R107 500SL finished in Astral Silver over a black leather interior. Produced from 1971-1989 as the sole roadster in Mercedes’ lineup, the R107 also became the first SL to offer a V8 engine. This 1984 example is said to have been imported to the U.S. in the 1980s and had spent time in California before moving to Missouri in 2010. It comes equipped with a body-colored removable hardtop, a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, a power antenna, fog lamps, and anti-lock brakes. Having received a major service in April of 2021 including a new timing chain, water pump, and fuel injectors, this 500SL is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Missouri while showing just over 36k miles on the odometer.

This 500SL comes finished in Astral Silver (735) with dark grey lower body cladding, a retractable black soft top, and a painted removable hardtop.  The seller describes the paint to remain very nicely presented overall and with good panel gaps throughout the body. Paint meter readings suggest an area of the driver-side front fender to have been refinished at some point under prior ownership.  Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  Additional equipment includes European-market bumpers, U.S.-market headlights, fog lamps, a third brake light, a rear lip spoiler, and 14” Bundt wheels dressed in Michelin tires. A matching full-size spare is also included in the trunk.

The cabin comes trimmed in black leather with matching carpets and burl wood inlays throughout the dashboard and center console. Factory equipment includes a steering wheel-mounted airbag, central locking, power windows, a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 22 cassette stereo, an automatic antenna, heat-insulated glass, and automatic climate control. The seller notes that the air conditioning system has been converted to R134a and that the clock is currently nonfunctional.

Power comes from a European specification 5.0L M117 V8 engine which sends up to 237 HP and 296 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission. The R107 was factory equipped with power steering, a fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. In April of 2021, this SL received a major service which included a new timing chain and rails, a new water pump, coolant hoses, a thermostat, new fuel injectors, engine mounts, brake pads, fluids, filters, spark plugs, ignition wires, a hood insulation pad, various gaskets, and a new battery and tray.

This sale will include a painted hardtop, the original toolkit, first aid kit, spare tire, recent service invoices, and a clean title. With its classic styling and major recent service, this rare European market R107 offers an excellent value for any enthusiast in search of a vintage Mercedes-Benz SL-Class roadster.

  • ferrari400i (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @Gporsche20 I was talking about the condition, reliability and originality.
    The car has been in the US and registration has not been an issue. As I said earlier the car was registered in California and from what I hear they are a very difficult State to get a car registered in.
    Thanks and good luck on your hunt

  • Gporsche20 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @ferrari400i This is a great car and very unique. You don't see many Euro versions on the road. However without paperwork and history, it's not as good as it gets.

  • ferrari400i (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @Vlad600sel Yes. That is were the family sold through. I saw the paperwork regarding the deceased (transfer of death and other documents). Nothing to hide here. This car is as good as it gets.
    Thanks

  • Vlad600sel (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @ferrari400i so
    Your friend bought it from action and you bought it from him ?
    Also interested in the records

    Thank you

    The car was believed to be in a personal museum when my friend purchased it. That gentleman purchased the car from his estate (he passed)without any records. Since the car was sitting for so long he did major preventive maintenance. Timing chain, guids, injectors, brakes and much much more. All genuine MB parts. Look at photos 205-208 of some of the receipts. Feel free to send me your ph# and I can give you every detail ( if you choose).
    Thanks

    @ferrari400i Ok. What type of prior service history records do you have? How far do they go back?

  • ferrari400i (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @ferrari400i look below @gporsche20

  • ferrari400i (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    Hello @Gporsche90
    I do not. The car was has been registered in California and Missouri without any issues. Please look at photo #95 regarding the import placards.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks!

  • Gporsche20 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @ferrari400i Do you have the actual importation paper and DOT/EPA releases when the car was imported?

  • ferrari400i (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @vlad600sel,

    I purchased the car from a friend of mine about 9 months ago (it was to nice and original to pass up).
    I have a 1971 280se 3.5 convertible and I find myself driving that more when I want to drive a MB (I have kid and the se has back seats. I will probably never sell that car).
    Thanks and good luck!!
