Available for auction is this 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet finished in Guards Red over a Grey Beige interior. Marking the introduction of the Carrera 3.2 to the 911 lineup, the 1984 model year provided a larger displacement flat-six that generated more horsepower and torque than its predecessor. Now offered with just over 143k on the odometer, this Carrera Cabriolet spent more than 23 years with a previous owner in California and Georgia. Accompanied by two decades worth of records showing significant service completed, this Carrera is now being offered for auction out of North Carolina.

The exterior is finished in Guards Red with a newer manually operated black convertible top. Equipment includes black bumperettes, fog lights integrated into the lower front spoiler, a third brake light mounted over the rear deck, and refinished 16” Fuchs wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. The seller states the car underwent a full glass-out respray by Buckhead Collision in 2017 after rear-end damage was sustained, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a full CARFAX report.

The interior is upholstered in Grey Beige leather with an aftermarket MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, and an upgraded Continental Bluetooth radio. The instrument bulbs and power antenna were replaced by the current owner along with the repairs to the clock. The seller suggests the air conditioning unit be checked for proper operation.

This 911 carries an air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine rated at 207 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 915 5-speed manual gearbox. During the past five years, over $25k in maintenance was performed including a major engine-out service, transmission rebuild, new shifter bushings, and an overhaul of the suspension with new shocks, struts, sway bar bushings, and Turbo tie rods. The brake pad warning indicator is present, however, the rotors, pads, and master cylinder were all replaced within the past 4k miles.

The sale will include a clean title.

@allmack The fuse near the ac condenser fan was blown. I put a new fuse in and now compressor and clutch engage when ac is turned on. I couldn't feel much cooling so next step is to put guages on and see what levels look like.

@ramtour2 Thanks for the response. What about the a/c writeup. Does this mean it's not blowing cold? Not blowing at all? Has the system been converted to R134 as far as you know?

  • ramtour2 (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@allmack - I had a 69 912 that I sold years ago to fund college. I always wanted another 912 or 911 so when I saw this car I decided to give it a try. This car is super nice and it’s much more substantial than my 912 but the 912 was more fun. This car has way more power but is more refined and heavier.

In addition to a/c question, why sell so soon? Disclosure: I've worked with the vendor this was purchased from and they keep good stock and are generally good to work with. Thanks.

"The seller suggests the air conditioning unit be checked for proper operation." Does this mean it's not blowing cold? Not blowing at all? R12 or R134a? Thanks.

Roma - Thanks for the nice comments. Regarding what looks like oil leaks, my garage floor is completely dry. I could have put engine cleaner on it but I wanted to represent it as it is. If you wipe some of those areas with a rag it looks the same so it’s really just oil stains. I have a friend who used to be a Porsche mechanic and he says “you have a really nice car and I’ve worked on tons of them”. It’s a car you can get in and drive wherever you want. I’ve seen cars cheaper but I’ve heard there is nothing more expensive as a cheap Porsche. Better to get one sorted like mine. It’s cheaper in the long run.

@jspearin I concur with your query. It seems like a decent car, lots of maintenance last few years and the condition seems to match the mileage. The only thing I can think of is there do appear to be a few oil leaks but that isn’t necessarily a major issue. Maybe the accident history scared folks away but it looks to be repaired properly and certainly well documented…..interesting.

It's not always easy to tell a good car from photos but you won't be disappointed with this one. It's never given me a minute's trouble. Starts and runs great every time out and looks fantastic. It gets a lot of attention and I thumbs up everywhere I go.
