Up for auction is this superb 1984 Porsche 928 S Euro-spec finished in Metallic Black w/Purple flake over a dark gray leather interior. Originally sold in Europe and then later imported to the United States, this 1984 example was purchased by the seller in 2016 after it had been sitting in storage for about 16 years. Upon the seller’s purchase, this 928 S was treated to a comprehensive mechanical restoration spanning over 3 years. Stated to be in excellent running order with service documentation dating back to 1987, this higher-output European Spec 928 S is now being offered for auction showing just over 42k miles on the odometer.

This 928 S is said to have been professionally refinished in Metallic Black w/Purple flake during the early 2000s.  The exterior is shown to be in nice condition with some minor road wear including a few scrapes on the center of the rear bumper (detailed images are available in the photo gallery).  The seller notes that 4 coats of CQuartz ceramic coating has been professionally applied under his ownership.  Exterior features include European-market lighting, distinctive pop-up headlights and factory polished wheels which are currently dressed in set of BFGoodrich tires dated from 2017.

Representing one of the most luxurious grand tourers of its day, this 928 S is appointed with a comfortable gray leather interior featuring a wrapped leather dashboard, rear quarters and front and rear seats.  Other factory options include power windows, power seats, and air conditioning. This 928 has been equipped with an aftermarket Alpine head unit with Bluetooth and USB compatibility. The cabin is stated to be in great condition with all gauges, electrical components and accessories remaining fully functional, though the rear hatch release is not working at this time.

This 928 S is equipped with a higher-output European-market 4.7 L V8 engine rated at 310 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a rebuilt and number’s matching 5-speed manual transmission making for a pure and authentic driving experience. Beginning in 2016, this 928 S underwent an extensive mechanical restoration which included the following maintenance items and upgrades:

  • Water Pump / Timing belt
  • Top End Refresh Including Waterbridge Gaskets and O-rings
  • Rebuilt Transmission
  • Professionally Resurfaced Flywheel
  • New Slave Cylinder
  • Professionally Hot Tanked Oil Pan / Silicone Gasket Upgrade
  • New Motor Mounts
  • All Cam Seals, Oil Pump Seals, Front and Rear Main Seal, Oil Pan Seals Replaced
  • Steering Rack Full Rebuild from 928 International
  • Rebuilt Rear Half-Shafts
  • Smog Pump Delete
  • Porkentensioner
  • Greg Brown Fuel Lines
  • Greg Brown Euro Injector Upgrade Kit
  • Bosch 4 Hole 24lb Injectors
  • Greg Brown Slave Cylinder Goodrich Hydraulic Line
  • Exclusive "Hans" Short/Throw Shifter

This 928 S is stated to be up-to-date on all general maintenance accompanied by a collection of service records dating back to 1987.

The sale of this 928 S will include one key, original books and tools and a clean Carfax report.  The Carfax report does show a mileage inconsistency, though this may just be a clerical error.  Do not miss your chance to own one of the most iconic vintage grand touring cars of all time.

The car speaks for itself.. A 5-speed Euro S2 in great condition has to be among the most sought after 928s. Brad is a true enthusiast of 928s and a diligent technician. Opportunities to get into a sorted S2 are more infrequent everyday, and this one won't disappoint!

I’d also like to comment on the fact that this particular 928 is a part of a once in a lifetime historical moment in attending 928 Rendezvous held at PEC of Atlanta celebrating and honoring 928#1, that was an awesome historical event to experience and it was a blast tailing this euro from Ohio to Georgia, who every ends up being the lucky owner will enjoy it’s reliability and The great fun that it has to offer, bid with confidence.

The doors and front overhead light have all been upgraded with bright white LEDs. I really fell this helps give it a tastefully modern look but also very bright at night when getting in the car. In addition, you don't have to worry about killing your battery if a door is left open or overheating the plastic.

Last two days. Please let me know what questions I can answer!

  • checkmate1996 (seller) 3 years, 10 monthsago

just took the car on a nice spin. Beautiful sunny day, 88 degrees. I measured the AC temp and it read back at 36.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Electric fan was running. All looked good.

I want to update everybody that's watching this issue since it somehow didn't make the ad but if the clutch sits for an extended amount of time, it "sags" down and needs pumped a few times. After that everything works just fine.

  • checkmate1996 (seller) 3 years, 10 monthsago

@fastcargobrrr 1) May of 2019 - I converted over to R134a. Yes it blows cold, I just tested the AC the other day. 2) Yes the rear hatch with key works just fine. The switch also works. It needs a new connecting rod since the old one broke. Definitely not a strong point for Porsche.

  • fastcargobrrr (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

Thanks Brad, does the AC system blow cold air? And has it been upgraded from the original r12 coolant to r134a?
Lastly, to clarify, the interior hatch release switch does not work, but the hatch can still be opened at the rear of the car - is that correct?

@fastcargobrrr no it does not. For the street, I have not found it lacking. However my 79 had lsd which helped for the track.

  • fastcargobrrr (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

Nice car. Is this one equipped with a limited-slip differential? Thanks in advance.

I have known Brad Smith since 2007. Brad is an expert in 928s. He sold me a 1982 928 two years ago. He had restored the '82 mechanically and knock on wood, it's required nothing beyond annual oil change. I have also seen the listed car and person and it's unreal. Bid with confidence.

@JNasty The owner before me had the car painted and filled in the federalized markers. This was back in 2000. The door jambs and other interior areas still have the original Schwartz black. As far as the wheels go, they have the wider tires but I don't recall if they are actually wider.

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 years, 11 monthsago

@checkmate1996 - 1) so non OEM color? 2) those are S4 rear rims right? 1" wider (see the concave). I did the same :)

  • checkmate1996 (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

Hello all! My name is Brad Smith and up for sale is my 1984 928. I've got plenty of pictures and videos to show the vehicle and out on the street. I'll be here to help answer any questions. Enjoy!
