Up for auction is this 1984 Porsche 944 finished in Guards Red over a Grey Beige partial leather interior. One of the purest and unadulterated versions of the Porsche 944 sports car, this 1984 example comes equipped with a removable sunroof panel, power windows, an original Blaupunkt cassette stereo, optional anti-roll bars, and a 5-speed manual transaxle sending power to the rear wheels.  Acquired by its current owner in 2019, this 944 was subsequently treated to considerable maintenance including a timing belt replacement, fluid flushes, a recharge of the A/C system, and replacement of the fuel pump.  This 944 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of South Carolina with just over 44k miles showing on the odometer.

This 944 comes finished in traditional Guards Red and features distinctive pop-up headlights, integrated front fog lights, and a black polyurethane spoiler surrounding the glass rear hatch. The finish is described to be very well presented with only a few small imperfections as depicted in the photo gallery.  A clean CARFAX report is also available for reference.  This 944 rides on 15” ATS Cookie Cutter-style wheels dressed in Yokohama tires bearing date codes from 2013.

Inside, you will find a Grey Beige partial leather interior with matching carpets and contrasting brown leatherette upholstery on the dashboard, upper door panels, and center console.  Factory equipment includes a removable sunroof panel with an electric tilt feature, power windows, air conditioning, and a Blaupunkt Monterey digital cassette radio. The seller notes the cabin remains very well preserved, showing little signs of wear and staying true to its original appearance.  A vintage dealer-installed cruise control system is equipped and the A/C refrigerant has been recharged under the current ownership.  The seller confirms all gauges and accessories remain fully functional and notes that the dashboard is free of any cracks.

This first-generation 944 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.5L inline-four engine paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle, delivering up to 150 HP and 142 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels.  Standard features include four-wheel independent suspension, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, and power-assisted ventilated disc brakes, while optional front and rear anti-roll bars provide improved handling.  The timing belt, alternator belt, auxiliary shaft belt, and power steering belt were replaced in November 2019 along with exchanges of the oil, transmission fluid, and coolant. More recent service is said to include the installation of a new fuel pump and cooling fan relay.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals and radio instructions, a toolkit, spare tire, and a clean title.  For any enthusiast in search of a Porsche 944, this unmolested and sparingly driven 1984 example makes an excellent choice.

Thanks everybody for being here. Unfortunately we’re a long way away from this car selling. With everything happening in the air cooled market right now, it will be a very short period of time until these cars see the same value bubble.
We will keep it safe and secure for now and try again later. Merry Christmas to you all!

Good morning to all. The cruise control is brilliant. Simple and functional.
This car was a one owner car that was traded into a dealership when the owner got to the point it was hard to get in an out of. Because of the privacy act, the dealership did not pass along prior service records.
The shop that did the belts has a tremendous amount of expertise on 944s so it’s my opinion that if the other items required replacement they would have.

Nice early 944! First time I saw a generic cruise control on a Porsche...Does it function properly? Noticed they did the timing and balance shaft belts, but not a water pump, tensioners or rollers? Is there an earlier service that included them? Are there paint gauge readings?

What’s to love about this 944?
Well clearly is beautiful on the outside, night or day…even detailed in the wheel wells.
I’m astounded by the condition of the interior. An original uncracked early dash! Not just uncracked but absolutely mint. I love this early dash with the diving tachometer and aeronautical feeling gauges. I’m astonished when I open the center console and see it’s also mint and no broken cassette holders. The glovebox latch is nice touch and the glovebox itself appears unused. I love the interior colors and how they compliment the paint on the car. The condition of the interior again is hard to believe…this car had to be a highway car with little egress/ingress.
Looking underneath the car we see factory inspection crayon marks still present. Such a minimal effort would be needed to further detail the undercarriage and engine bay to show the car.
The driving video speaks for itself about why I love driving this 944.
This is an absolute gem of a 944. We feel confident you won’t find another early car this nice for quite some time.
Good luck to all and thanks for the bids!

    Hello all
Thanks for being here. This is the 4th 944 that I’ve had the opportunity to sell and it’s by far the best example I’ve driven and photographed. I’m astounded at the condition of the car…outside, underneath, and most especially inside the car. It’s a time capsule and the gentleman that owned this car was as meticulous of a Porsche owner as there ever has been. I love the original design dashboard and I really appreciate the aeronautical look and feel of the gauges. It’s a joy to watch the tachometer dive down from the top as the engine torque and sound builds.
Please do take note of all the recent maintenance…the car is ready for you to drive it and enjoy it!
Looking forward to the comments and questions. Thank you!
