This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa was originally equipped for the European market and was imported to the United States and federalized in 1985. Powered by a high-compression 3.2-liter flat-six paired with a Type 915 5-speed manual transmission, this 911 comes finished in Grand Prix White over a black leather interior. Notable equipment includes body-color 16” Fuchs wheels and front/rear spoilers, H4 headlights, integrated fog lights, air conditioning, power windows, and an Alpine CD stereo. Benefitting from a host of recent service items and said to be owned by a single family, this example is now being offered for auction out of Texas.

This Carrera is finished in Grand Prix White and features a black removable Targa top and band, front and rear spoilers, integrated fog lights, H4 headlights, and power-adjustable and heated mirrors. The 16” Fuchs wheels showcase body-colored centers and anodized lips, paired with Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season tires. The seller adds that the Targa roof panel was replaced in 1999, and some paint imperfections are noted. The CARFAX report shows damage to the front in 1994, although no further information is provided and the seller indicates there are no records of repair with the car's documentation. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with the full CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with black leather and contrasting carpets. The VDO instrumentation displays a central tachometer with a 6,300-RPM redline, a 170-MHP speedometer, a Quartz clock, and auxiliary gauges. Additional equipment includes an Alpine CD stereo, air conditioning, and power windows.

The 1985 Carrera is equipped with a higher-compression Euro-spec 3.2-liter flat-six engine, generating up to 230 HP to the rear wheels through a type 915 5-speed manual transmission. Recent service items include replacement drive belts, lower valve cover gaskets, engine mounts, alternator, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, and spark plug wires throughout the last year. Detailed records are provided in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a clean title.

@msobilo We do not have the original window sticker I believe, per the options sticker, the only option this car has is that it is a German Market Version.

  • msobilo (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Do you by chance have the original window sticker? Or a list of original options. That hood sticker does not really give any idea. Does it have locking dif?

Final Stretch now. I'll be here through the finish to answer any last minute questions.

For now I want to emphasize the decades worth of meticulous service records. The absolutely pristine results of the recent leak down and compression test.

And finally that this is a classic 911 with exceptional history, its the proper, full blooded European spec car in one of the most iconic variants offered by Porsche. This targa is simply better than the one you'll be parked next to at coffee and cars.

Was the whale tail added or came original with the car?

@JohnBlackyoldtimer The gearbox noise between those times is all very even and normal.

Its not the cleanest audio, and targa's carry a lot of road noise, but there is no issue at all with the gearbox.

  • JohnBlackyoldtimer (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Hear in the drivingvideo at 2:00 till 2:10 for example.

@JohnBlackyoldtimer can you be more specific about what you’re hearing?

I’ve driven this car many times, along with hundreds of other 911’s with this 915 gearbox and this one feels strong, typical, and doesn’t make any unusual noises to me.

  • EuropaTouringLtd (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@richardroy77 yep as well as it ever did.

  • JohnBlackyoldtimer (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Hello, can you explain to me the noises from the gearbox that can be heard in the video?

  • richardroy77 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    Is the AC working.

  • richjs43 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@EuropaTouringLtd: AMEN, on your CarFax comment. They are not accurate to say the least.
Years ago they did not differentiate damage, i.e. what is the extent of the damage. I finally forced them to say “minor” to a rear bumper hit on my Porsche Boxster which cost $2000 to repair. The best thing a buyer should do is to have any potential purchase inspected be a professional.

@Vdm9 Paint meter pictures will be incoming later tonight when I can get to the computer theyre stored on. The readings were all well within the expected range for an originally handpainted car.

The carfax report is a mystery to everyone. We've checked with the family members who owned the car at the time of the 'report' and they're sure they didnt have any accidents or incidents with the car around then. Nor can we find any evidence of paint or bodywork.

Carfax is a perpetual bug bear for us in that is so inaccurate. It pulls information from shop software systems blindly, and uses algorithms to build a report. I personally have two cars that were hit substantially and repaired through insurance with clean reports, I have another car that we did cosmetic upgrades too in my shop that ended up with a 'minor repair' because our old software decided to report that my new bumper was an accident repair.

Frankly we wish they either didnt exist, or actually did their jobs properly.

    Hello
Lovely car with nice patina. Can you provide paint meter readings and expand upon the "front damage" on the car fax?
    Thank you

  • EuropaTouringLtd (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Now that we're live I wanted to jump in and introduce us and the car.

We're Europa Touring, a small specialist side project between a photographer, and the owner of a Porsche repair shop in Houston Texas. We started this to present cars we love in the best possible light and help navigate the sometimes intimidating process of selling these cars online.

We generally look to sell cars we personally love, and this is no exception. This snowy targa has been owned by a single family since its import from germany and lovingly cared for since.

The european models are dramatically and substantially better in many ways than the domestic examples. Better engines, more power, more noise, better suspension setups you name it. While this nearly 40 year old car carries some patina, despite what the carfax says it hasnt been hit, and is still very young underneath.

We'll be here to answer any questions, and enjoy the auction. Happy bidding all, and good luck!
