Up for auction is this unique 1986 Porsche 930 “993 Turbo” tribute finished in Guards Red over a black interior.  Beginning life as a standard U.S.-market Porsche 911 Turbo, this 930 has undergone a 993-style transformation along with some other customizations and performance upgrades including "Big Red" brakes and a Fabspeed exhaust.  Equipped with its 3.3L turbocharged flat-six engine mated to a recently installed 4-speed manual gearbox with a limited-slip differential, this 993 tribute has been kept in excellent running order having undergone a relatively recent engine-out service with supporting documentation.  It is now being offered by its seller in Massachusetts with approximately 84k miles shown on the odometer.

The body of this 930 has been dressed in 993-style components including fiberglass Turbo fenders, aero mirrors, aero door handles, and a painted rear spoiler.  The Guards Red finish is said to be in fair condition with some chips and typical signs of road-going wear (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Some custom details included front brake duct inserts, upgraded LED headlights and multi-piece RH Speedline-style wheels dressed in healthy Sumitomo tires.

The black interior is said to be in very good condition with some custom features including Sparco Sport seats, a MOMO steering wheel, Wevo short shifter, and an aftermarket radio.  An air conditioning system has also been integrated, although it is currently reported to be nonfunctional.  The oil pressure dial is said to be faulty and the seller confirms all other gauges and accessories to be working properly.

This tribute retains its air-cooled 3.3 L flat-six turbocharged engine which has been upgraded with a Fabspeed exhaust and a performance air intake.  Other performance upgrades include RUF-valved Bilstein struts, “Big Red” front brakes, a larger-diameter rear sway bar, and a front strut tower brace.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a recently installed OEM 4-speed manual transmission with limited-slip differential.  Under the seller’s ownership within the last 4 years, this tribute has undergone a full engine-out service which is detailed in the included records.  The engine is also believed to have been fully rebuilt in 2006 under previous ownership, although there is no documentation available.  Proper routine service is said to have been kept up to date and this Turbo is reported to be in strong running order.

This sale will include 1 master key, an owner’s manual, jack, spare tire, recent service records, and a clean title.  Offering the visceral nostalgia of the 3.3L 930 with the refined styling of the 993 Turbo, this tribute offers a very unique opportunity.

@energyof2 @energyof2, it worked in the summer but after some electrical work in the engine bay it now does not. It read between 1.5 and 2 once warmed up.

When was the last time the Oil Pressure gauge worked and what was the reading while driving?

Hi Seanmo, Yes it's a 4 speed with 4th being a very tall overdrive. The reason was that in the early years Porsche thought the 5 speed transmission could not handle the torque delivered by the turbo and the 4 speed could. The G50 5 speed was introduced in the last 1989 model.

  • Needsdecaf 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Seanmo Earlier 930 Turbos indeed have 4 speed gearboxes.

  • Seanmo (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Can you confirm that this is a 4 speed gearbox? Never seen that before. Are the gears taller than the standard 5 speed to compensate?
