A limited-production version of the third-generation Mustang by Ford’s Special Vehicle Operations, the Mustang SVO features a turbocharged 2.3-liter Lima racing engine along with sport-tuned suspension, ventilated four-wheel disc brakes, six-shock Koni suspension, adjustable sport seats, leather trim, and a unique front end. This 1986 example is among fewer than 10,000 produced in total and is one of only 123 cars to have received the optional Competition Preparation Package (41C) from the factory. Originally sold in Ohio before moving to Canada, this highly collectible Fox-body Mustang has been with the current owner since 2022 and is now being offered for auction out of Ontario.

Compared to a contemporary Ford Mustang, the specialized SVO model features a unique front grille and hood with a functional intercooler air scoop as well as a biplane rear spoiler, thinner side moldings, pinstriped taillights, and smoother sail panels behind the rear quarter windows. After 1985, the SVO also received new aerodynamic headlamps that further reduced drag. This example was refinished in the current shade of silver under prior ownership and features a pair of Marchal fog lights, black mirror housings, and dual polished tailpipes. It rides on factory 16” machined cast aluminum wheels dressed in older BFGoodrich Traction T/A tires. A scratch is noted on the lower driver’s side rocker panel and the seller states Krown underbody coating was applied in 2018, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Charcoal Grey leather interior features adjustable front sport seats and the factory Competition Preparation Package which eliminates power windows and door locks, air conditioning, a sunroof, and stereo system for weight savings. The SVO also received a factory-installed Hurst shifter and specialized pedals to accommodate heel-toe shifting. Other accessories include a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel and gear lever, a boost pressure gauge, a digital clock, a driver-selectable fuel recalibration switch, and heater controls. The car’s true mileage remains unknown as the CARFAX report shows a potential odometer rollback in 2002 followed by several mileage inconsistencies in the following years.

The Mustang SVO is equipped with a 2.3-liter Lima inline-four engine featuring an AiResearch T03 turbocharger, an intercooler, and a computerized fuel injection system. For 1986 models, up to 200 HP and 240 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner 5-speed manual transmission and a 3.73:1 Traction-Lok limited-slip differential. The SVO became the first Mustang offered with 5-lug hubs and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes as well as a specially tuned Koni suspension featuring adjustable front struts, rear shocks, and horizontal rear dampers. Service history includes replacement of the starter motor in 2012, a new oil pan and valve cover in 2013, and ignition service and timing adjustment in 2021 along with a new thermostat, upper radiator hose, and an oil change.

This sale will include original books and documentation, service records, some spare parts, a featured magazine, and a clean title.

Such a cool car, and look at all the open space in the engine bay. Less mass and further back no doubt helped the car's handling.

Looks like Ford only produced 4, 1986 (Silver 1E) Comp Prep, so this is 1 of 4 produced in 1986 with this color combo.

Hi everyone, this SVO originally was imported from the US to Canada. So importing it back to the US will not be an issue. If you Google border buddy you can get a free quote. Hopefully that helps.

I think this car is really nice and pretty rare........It is the Canada issue of importing into the US that scares everyone and the timing in my opinion. Seller might be wise to document how it is done here in a comment or even a document explaining the Pro...Cess as the Canadians say. Might be too late for that but if the seller has time, it certainly won't hurt. Great car and I believe worth more.

So in 1986 I was going to buy my 1st new car.......I wanted something cool.......I was really a GM guy, but you look at everything and so there were 3 cars I was looking at to buy.
    1. Monte Carlo SS
    2. Mustang SVO (Just like on this page)
    3. Buick Grand National
I was going back and forth between the Mustang and the GN....the SS while I liked the looks wasnt doing it and so I ordered........the Grand National and drove it as my daily driver for....230,000 miles.

Always have liked the SVO mustang and its rarity and its performance!!!!!

Well see where this one goes.

That paint needs a buff and polish. There's more shine left in that paint. Otherwise, this car looks fantastic. A friend took his to RA for a Shelby meet and ripped off a 3:01. Not bad. Brakes were toast in no time. GL
