It is our pleasure to introduce this 1986 Porsche 930SE Turbo Slant Nose finished in Paint to Sample Ruby Red Metallic.  Commissioned through Porsche’s Sonderwunsche (Special Wishes) Department, this German-market example features the “SE” performance package, handcrafted Flachbau bodywork, and a bespoke interior with Burgundy and White Special Leather upholstery, wood trim, a unique center console, a “Type F” steering wheel, and Sports Seats with contrast piping.  This Turbo was acquired by the current owner about 10 years ago from a specialty car dealer in Chicago and was subsequently driven to New York where it remains today.  After delivery, the car was treated to over $24k worth of service including a full rebuild of the transmission, new rear shock absorbers, new brakes, and a refresh of the ignition system.  Since this time, the car has been kept tucked away in the owner’s collection while seeing no more than 200 miles of use.  Several items have been recently carried out in preparation for sale including refinishing of the color-matched Fuchs wheels, all new brake pads and rotors, new rocker cover seals, valve adjustments, a full professional paint correction, and more.  This outstanding 930SE is now being offered for auction while showing just over 55k miles on the odometer.

This 930 came factory finished in the Paint to Sample color of Ruby Red Metallic and features handcrafted Slant Nose bodywork including a redesigned front valence, flat vented front fenders, pop-up headlights, boxed rocker panels, and distinctive rear quarter air intakes.  European side marker lights are equipped, and a unique quad-tip exhaust is also included as part of the “SE” specification.  In preparation for sale, a full paint correction has been carried out along with refinishing of the front valence and color-matched Fuchs wheels.  The paint is described to show well with only minor flaws and imperfections, additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  The 16” Fuchs wheels on this example measure 7” x 9” in width and come dressed in new Yokohama Advan tires.

The cabin of this 930SE has been tailored with Burgundy and White Special Leather upholstery as well as Burgundy carpeting and Sports Seats with contrast piping.  A Special Wishes Type F three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a dashboard clad in burled wood veneers.  In the middle of the cabin, you will find a unique 930SE center console as well as a Special Wishes wooden shift knob.  Other factory specifications include Equipment for Germany, an electric sliding sunroof, a passenger-side electric/heated mirror, and a windshield with green graduated tint.

Factory-applied labels remain affixed throughout the car including the original tire specifications sticker in the glovebox.  The steering wheel has been previously reupholstered, and the interior has been professionally detailed in preparation for sale.  Some signs of wear are visible on the seat bolsters as well as slight separation of the leather upholstery on the upper dashboard, and sagging of the headliner on the sunroof panel.  An upgraded Alpine radio has been installed along with MB Quart speakers, and the original radio is said to accompany the sale as well.

The air-cooled 3.3L turbocharged flat-six engine is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox and a factory-optioned limited-slip differential.  The “SE” performance package raises the output of this engine up to 330 HP using a larger intercooler, higher-lift cams, a revised exhaust system, and increased boost pressure.  Upon the seller’s purchase about 10 years ago, this 930SE was brought to Manhattan Motorsports to undergo over $24k worth of service including a full rebuild of the transmission, a new turbocharger, a new clutch, new ignition components, new heat exchanger pipes, new rear shock absorbers, and new brakes.  Within the last several months, this Turbo has also received an updated 964-spec Bosch diverter valve, a new fuel level sending unit, new fuel pump relays, valve adjustments, resealed rocker covers, an oil change, and a refresh of the brakes with new pads, rotors, and fluid.

This sale will include a collection of original Special Wishes brochures, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and correspondence, original owner’s manuals, spare tire, and a clean title.  This 930SE is also said to be accompanied by the original radio and air compressor.  An exceptional representation of the craftsmanship Porsche’s Special Wishes department has become legendary for, this one-of-a-kind 930SE is a true collector's item.

It may not be the factory exhaust, but this car is a real special wishes 930 slant.

Great information love to see the picture

  • cartech (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@LP500S The exhaust is definitely not 930S or SE "same difference" SE "special equipment".

I am not sure PCar will allow me to attach a photos of the correct factory exhaust, but i would be happy to do so. I recently helped find a NOS exhaust, the cost was $17k.

Porsche 911 (The Complete story) by David Vivian has pics of the 911 Turbo SE (it is a cab) and the 4-pipe. I have the same 930S brochure from Alan Johnson Racing. Does anyone know what SE stands for? (I do!!) Beautiful Turbo this one is..

With almost certainty, the exhaust tips are Borla and not Special Wishes.

Has the seller matched the engine to the COA? Is there a photo of the engine code? If you do not know where to find these stampings, I am happy to instruct in more detail on where they are located.

For the wheels they are correct wheels number matching , Porsche mentioned the numbers on letter Paint is a special order Ruby Red metallic (Herbert's 810 )

  • Bill930P (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@ride786 - That's not the factory exhaust for a this car. The one currently installed looks like a Borla unit. The one that comes with the Power Kit looks very different.

  • ride786 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

For the paint work I believe is original paint But I am not expert . I did talk to the factory and that's what they told me .cars build by hand so it's possible the pain numbers can be different one panel to another. Porsche enthusiast Fellows mentioned thx

  • LP500S (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Has the engine # been confirmed to match the COA?
Has the seller analyzed the engine code located below the area where the engine # is?
Has Porsche acknowledged that this car was part of the Special Wishes Program?

  • Bill930P (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@ride786 - Any chance you still have the original muffler?

  • PlaPan (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

It is an authentic special wishes slant nose - unfortunately the CoA is not very helpful or accurate on these cars as they were all hand built to client specifications - best way to decode what options they have is to have the build sheet or contact Porsche classic in Germany or have the options list (which is present here) and translate.

Looks like the 330 HP engine - has the thicker intercooler as well as the cut out (appears original) for the passenger side exhaust. It is missing the diverter valve and a few other things - was probably modified at some point. There is no option code for 330 hp engine vs the 300 that is put on the option sticker or on the car - would be on the original build sheet.

On paint thickness for these cars in general - all were hand painted and metal work also done by hand (the fender flares on 930's were welded by hand trough 1985) - you can have considerably higher readings than on the regular cars and it can be original paint - not stating it is or it is not - someone who knows the cars should be able to tell.

@ride786 Oh well, we tried. If you need any help in determining what engine you have, drop me a note and we'll see what can be determined. Good luck in your sale. I'm always there for a fellow Sonderwunsch-o-file.

  • Fastauto (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

I have a 86 factory car as well. This year car is extremely hard to track from a linage standpoint. From what I can see in the pictures, this car looks to be legit. Very cool example and good look with the sale.

  • ride786 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Flachbau Good morning I just talked to the technician he looked at the Turbo charger and is been replaced with a new one it's very hard to determine which engine is this If you have any questions let me know thank you

  • 930flachbau 2 years, 9 monthsago

Since this is not a 505 or 506 optioned factory slantnose, the car must have been imported into the U.S. and would have D.O.T. and Customs papers stating the Port of Entry and the car passes Federalization requirements, i.e. emissions. The Importers Data Plate in the door jam has the Importers name scratched out and someone else's name was added? I see you were able to get Porsche to report some of the options of the 930. Did you get any paperwork stating it was the optional 330 BHP engine? It must be stated the Series 66 Engine does not automatically make it the 330 BHP engine. It can be, but the Series 66 engine was the RoW engine (300 BHP). It was the baseline engine for SE's and optional Sonderwunsch engines before being modified, but without taking the cams covers off, reading the data plate on the original turbocharger, there is no way of knowing.
This is a heavily optioned factory slant but I don't see the SE lineage or the 330 BHP engine option.

Hi Deichenb. Thank you so much for asking yes I do have a paper I just send a copy to Pcarmarket Thank you so much good luck

  • Deichenb (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

This is a very beautiful 930, and thank you for bringing it here. Do you have any documentation on the Sonderwunsche (Special Wishes) Department options, or if the car was born an SE? That is not present on the COA; the Special Wishes body work may not be recorded, but the SE option often is. The other letter from Porsche specifies only wheels and color. Additional documentation would be lovely to see.

  • dino70089 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

I hope the interior really isn't purple as it appears in the photos. I have a Bordeaux interior in my silver Panamera and it also never looks `correct' in photos. So hopefully this car's interior has the same `issue'.

Not educated on paint meter readings, but it seems it's all over the map with this car, going from barely there (3.5) to very significant (20+). Can anyone explain why there might be such a vast range?
