Up for auction is this low-mileage 1986.5 Porsche 928 S finished in the unique color combination of Moss Green Metallic over a Champagne special leather interior. Built during the second half of the 1986 model year, this example represents the final iteration of the Porsche 928 S.  Having been previously listed on PCARMARKET in 2020 with some considerable recent service items, this 928 has since undergone major refurbishments including the refinishing of the front end as well as a new radiator and suspension components.  Reported to be in fantastic driving order, this beautiful 928 S is now being offered by its seller out of Connecticut with just over 39k miles showing on the odometer.

This 928 S is finished in the rarely seen color of Moss Green Metallic.  In recent months, the entire front end was professionally refinished and blended into the side doors to maintain an excellent overall appearance.  A full paint correction was also recently carried out along with the installation of new headlights and rubber seals for the windows, doors and front emblem.  Some minor imperfections and blemishes can be seen, although the finish is said to be in mostly great shape (an in-depth walkaround video is included toward the bottom of the listing).  This 928 S rides on its factory-correct 16” Manhole Cover wheels which are finished in chrome and currently dressed in BF Goodrich tires.

Inside, you will find a nicely presented Champagne special leather interior which has been recently treated to a full professional detail. The dashboard and a-pillars were professionally reupholstered under previous ownership and a period-style Blaupunkt radio was installed this year.  The air conditioning has been recharged with R134a and the seller confirms all of the gauges and accessories to be working properly.  Factory options specified for this example include:

  • Sunroof
  • High-Output Air Conditioning
  • Alarm System
  • Amplifier
  • HiFi Sound System
  • Limited-Slip Differential
  • Higher Speed Cooling Fan
  • Sport Shock Absorbers

This 1986 928 S is equipped with a 5-liter 32V V8 engine. This immense power plant is capable of sending 288 HP and 302 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through an extremely desirable 5-speed manual transmission with limited slip differential. Sport Shock Absorbers are also factory optioned for improved handling characteristics.  The following service items were addressed within the last year under previous ownership:

  • Timing Belt
  • Accessory Belt
  • Water Pump
  • Mass Airflow Sensor
  • Fuel Injectors
  • Fuel Pump
  • Valve Cover Gasket
  • Bushings/Control Arms
  • Brakes and Rotors
  • Minor Electrical Repair

More recently over the past 2 months, this 928 S has received a new radiator, hood insulation, drive shaft, axel boots, inner tie rods and a 4-wheel alignment.  The seller has indicated this 928 to drive beautifully, please see the included video for an evaluation of this car’s mechanical condition as well as a test drive.

This sale will include 1 master key and 1 uncut blank, the original toolkit and manuals, and 3 sets of floormats.  If you are in the market for a Porsche 928, this phenomenal Moss Green Metallic example is not to be missed.

Looks that way. Congratulations to Nick and the new owner. Looks like a fair deal all the way around

Reserve not met, then a quick DealTank pickup?

Why didn't Benzanecohen win the auction, and more importantly, why did the final after-the-bell bid jump nearly $4k... seems odd.

Why is it not in Yellow?!?! I can't neither make a social statement nor attract attention of a well-proportioned members of the opposite sex with this car! Ignore this lot, let's all show the world that people don't need more Porsches in conservative colors or calculator watches for that matter!

The guys from Darien Detail did an outstanding job on this one!

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@Keadog - that Moss green car in Ohio has green leather sport seats :) It was for sale recently.

  • allmack (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

Great auction, love the unvarnished transparency. And good luck with your family circumstances; things like cars fall into relief when more important things come forward.

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@droppedbaby1 - awesome! I've put Porsche Classic in all mine so far.

  • droppedbaby1 (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@JNasty yes the radio is a big win, Blaupunkt released it as a classic radio with modern power and features and it really does fit in and looks just like the original Blupaunkt that came in the 80's Porsche. The $750 interior fix was general leather repair and conditioning

@droppedbaby1 - 1) Cool radio! Is that like the Porsche Classic w/ BT? Or is it s straight-up re-issue? 2) What was the $750 interior repair?

  • droppedbaby1 (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

Work receipts have been added to the listing.

  • theralphiej (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@JNasty The tires have around 99% wear left, unless Nick did some ungodly things, which I highly doubt.

@droppedbaby1 - NBD. It just looks slightly better "stanced" than most OBD cars. That's usually why. I have at least an extra set here if not. Maybe it's the .5 changes to the suspension. PS: How do you like the tires? Usually not my 928 go to brand. % wear left?

  • droppedbaby1 (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@JNasty Not that I am aware of

  • Keadog 3 years, 6 monthsago

Great color. There was a 928 in Moss around NE Ohio a while back. Looks as good on the ground as in the photos.
Nick, are you throwing in a signed T shirt and/or stamp set? Super value added, you know.
    GLWA.

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@droppedbaby1 @theralphiej - quickie for either of you please: wheel spacers in the back or not?

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@DavidVonSlingshot - TWO owner's worth of sweat, time and money. The "work done" by the prior owner was big too. I was surprised it took so much more sorting. Actually makes me feel like I dodged the cost. IF I can be bought now for less than "car + owner 1 investment + owner 2 investment." I am betting "yes."

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

    @JNasty - I slightly missed out.

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

    @Benzanecohen - $36K + the 5%. Deal Tank got it done. https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/dealtank-1986-porsche-928-s-2/

    Nick,
Good luck selling this beauty, I was your video and saw how well cared for it was by you. Safe travels home, sorry to hear of the illness by a loved one. I’m sure you’ll brighten their day! Marty

Anyone who wants an in-depth look at this car really needs to watch Nick's YT video. Unless, of course, if one can arrange in in-person demo!

@allmack two reasons, firstly got my hands on a very reasonably priced 993 which is my new love and focus and secondly I am about to take an extended trip to New Zealand to see a relative that is terminally ill, so storing will be money wasted when it is now in such beautiful shape best time to sell it even though that was not the original plan. Life changes so rolling with it.
