Up for auction is this 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo finished in Alpine White over a Light Grey partial leather interior. Marking the inaugural model year for the 944 Turbo, this 951 features rare Sport Seats with Porsche script pattern inserts as well as a removable sunroof, optional Koni Sport shock absorbers, and deletion of factory body preservation coating.  It was also specified with the option code “900” indicating it was delivered to the original customer at the factory in Germany before being imported to the U.S. Acquired by the seller in November of 2020, this 944 is now being offered for auction out of Connecticut while showing just over 68k miles on the odometer (TMU).

This Turbo comes finished in Alpine White and can be distinguished from a standard 944 by its aerodynamically revised nose and body-colored diffuser below the rear bumper.  The seller notes there are minimal scratches and chips given the car’s age and mileage.  Additional images are provided in the gallery. CARFAX indicates damage to have occurred to the front driver’s side in 2004 and the seller reports the left front fender to have been repaired and refinished as a result.  This Turbo comes with body-colored side moldings and 16" Phone Dial wheels which are currently dressed in older Goodyear tires.

Inside, you will find a Light Grey partial leather interior showcasing a set of Sport Seats with Porsche script pattern inserts. Additional features include Automatic Speed Control, a removable sunroof panel, an alarm system, and air conditioning. The seller notes that the seating surfaces and dashboard remain free of any tears or cracks. An aftermarket radio has been installed and the fuel-level gauge and tachometer are currently inoperable.  CARFAX shows a potential mileage discrepancy and the seller reports that the true mileage remains unknown.

This 944 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.5L inline 4-cylinder engine that sends approximately 220 HP and 243 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle.  This example was also factory equipped with performance-oriented options including Koni Sport shock absorbers and deletion of the body preservation coating for weight savings.  No previous maintenance history was provided at the time of the seller’s purchase in November of 2020. The seller adds that the acceleration is smooth and spirited, the turbo demonstrates good boost, and the transmission shifts smoothly with no clutch slippage.

This sale will include a clean Missouri title (mileage exempt). Highlighting rare specifications, this 944 Turbo provides an excellent value for any enthusiast searching for a vintage transaxle Porsche.

With a galvanized body, it should still be relatively rust free so it's kinda cool see the option code asking the company to forego the undercoating. Sports seats are great and comfy with the fabric centers. Im surprised to see the front sway totally disconnected. Also, if it was optioned with Konis, the rears are not yellow suggesting they have been replaced. Looks straight and a big plus for a crack-free dash.

@thecoach Completely understood sir, I wish i could be of more help in that regard, thank you.

@cxk881 Hi, thanks for your interest, but I'm unable to explain the discrepancy and therefore, am describing it as "true mileage unknown" . The state in which the current title was granted allowed for "mileage exempt" under the odometer section.

@thecoach Hi, I'm sorry but as explained at the top, I have no information or expertise from which to answer.

    68,000 miles or 168,000!? wow

  • thecoach 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Browndog thank you for your response...albeit w/o reservation as one wants to know what they are getting into and what will need to be addressed regardless of the value that the make and model will hold.

  • cxk881 2 years, 8 monthsago

hello, can you explain the mileage discrepancy in the Carfax report?

  • Browndog (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Hello and thank you for your interest. I apologize in advance that no information regarding this car's maintenance history was made available to me when purchased, nor have I explored it's current mechanical condition, other than that which is apparent during operation and entered into this listing. It is offered with a modest reserve, leaving substantial upside potential for one who possesses the ability and desire to see it through. These cars are becoming more of interest due to their modest pricing and performance value, with many attaining $20,000+ price points. I've seen no indication that these will not hold their value over time.

In photo (s) 89 and 90 I see significant boil and / or other fluids that are leaking into the suspension and under carriage...it appears that the belts have also encountered said fluids.
Please explain...the leaks and seal(s) maintenance history
