Finished in Guards Red over Champagne Beige and equipped with a desirable 5-speed G50 manual transaxle, this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa was sold new in Southern California and remained with the original owner until 2003. The car briefly changed hands with another owner before being purchased by the seller in 2004. It came factory-equipped with optional 8-way power-operated seats, cruise control, power mirrors, a central locking system, and Fuchs forged alloy wheels, and it has been upgraded with a Bursch sport muffler. A lifelong California car, this 911 is now being offered for auction by its owner of 20 years while showing approximately 72k miles on the odometer.
This 911 is finished in Guards Red with a removable black roof panel and wraparound Targa bar. Other equipment includes a Turbo-style front spoiler, integrated front fog lights, H4 headlamps, power mirrors, a heated rear window, and 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. The car rides on a set of BF Goodrich G-Force Sport tires measuring 205/55 in front and 22/5/50 in the rear. The seller notes a few very small chips on the hood and near the driver’s door handle have been touched-up and the driver’s door was previously replaced following a parking lot dent. The Champagne Beige leather interior features optional 8-way power-adjustable front seats and a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel. Other accessories include power windows, air conditioning, a central locking system, cruise control, and an aftermarket Kenwood stereo that was installed under prior ownership. The seller indicates some wear is present on the carpeting in the driver’s footwell, the gear knob is worn, and there is slight warping of the dashboard over the instrument cluster. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly apart from the seatback adjustment on the passenger’s power seat switch.
An air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 217 HP and 195 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle. The seller notes an upgraded Bursch sport muffler has been installed and the original muffler is included with the sale. All routine maintenance has been kept up to date throughout their ownership and the air conditioning system was recently recharged.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “I have owned this car for 20 years and have enjoyed driving it mostly on weekends. The car is in remarkably good condition for its age. The car is almost completely stock except for a Kenwood sound system and a Bursch sport muffler (I have the original muffler in case the new owner wants to go back to stock). Maintenance is up to date and the car needs nothing.”

@Pilota 911 folks like original cars. Just saying. Also, always a question mark as to why replaced. Nothing against seller at all. Do i think its a nice car? Yes. But……good luck to buyer n seller. Theirs a happy medium somewhere. 👍

@911symphony Better replaced than a Bondo Job, or a rusty door. 20 plus years since the replacement, and the paint looks perfect and matches. So, whats the problem ?

Has the AC been converted?
I know the seller, and have seen this car personally. I can tell you it is a very nice rust free California car, with mostly original paint, that has been garaged and well cared for. The seller has other Porsches and is reluctantly selling this car to purchase another car.
@jackal0506 -- The jack points and belly pan are fine (see pics I just uploaded).
No recent valve adjustment. Valves were adjusted ~11K miles ago.

@WQQDYS Following up regarding the paint generally, as you can see from the full array of pictures, the overall condition of the paint is very good for it being mostly 37 years old. I've just uploaded a few more pictures where I've tried to show the most significant imperfections (typically very small chips), mostly on the hood and driver's door. @WQQDYS - The driver's door was replaced by the previous owner, and I have no details on whether it was a new door, or a used one, or from what year. He just told me that the door was dented and he didn't want repaired, so he had it replaced. The door fits nicely with no issues opening or closing. There is a small plastic nub in the inner door jam that pushes the interior light button in further (see pictures), so that button may be bad. From what I can see, the paint on the inside of the door matches perfectly. I haven't had any paintwork done on the car in the 20 years I've owned it, so I'm not sure how much is original. I will see if I can get some paint meter measurements uploaded later today.
@AWS- questions regarding the paint and body. In the listing it was mentioned the driver door was replaced. I don't see that on the CarFax, so I'm assuming insurance was not involved. That said, was a new door or used door used to replace the original? Inside the door painted color to match? Door open and close with any issues? Rest of the paint on the car is original? Thank you

@Speedj1 Thanks for your questions. The targa top fits snuggly. There are no leaks with the top or leaks of any kind under the car. I'll upload a few more pictures of the seats asap.

@Speedj1 Thank you for your questions. I will take a video going through the gears and have it uploaded later today, and I'll do the same with the service records that I have. The speedometer and odometer were serviced in August of 2012. I was told that a plastic odometer gear had broken, which is apparently not uncommon for these cars. The odometer gears were replaced at that time, with mileage preserved. Given that I don't drive the car often and that I had the issue immediately addressed, I estimate that the mileage shown on the odometer should be accurate to within 50 miles. California smog inspection reports immediately before and after the odometer repair show the mileage in March 2012 at 68,365 and in February 2014 at 69,213. This mileage is consistent with the ~500 miles/yr annual average I've driven over the 20 years I've owned the car. Please let me know if I can answer any further questions you may have.
