Up for auction is this 1987 Porsche 928 S4 Coupe finished in black over a tan leather interior.  With only 41k miles on the odometer, this low-mileage example features a rare 5-speed manual transmission along with a recent service. A true stand out among other examples, this S4 is now being offered by its seller out of Florida in great running condition.

The black paint is said to be in good overall condition with some noted scratches which can be viewed in the photo gallery.  The S4 differentiates itself from its predecessors with revised front and rear bumpers, larger and more integrated taillights, and a larger rear wing spoiler.  This example rides on Factory "manhole" chrome-plated wheels which wear Toyo Proxes tires.

Inside this 928, you will find a well-kept tan leather interior.  Celebrated for its balance of performance and comfort, this 928 example secures its occupants in a luxurious and cabin with no modifications present.  No modifications have been made to the interior.  All gauges and accessories are stated to be in working order.

Power comes from a robust 5.0L V8 engine that produces approximately 316 horsepower.  The rear wheels are driven through a desirable 5-speed manual transmission which can accelerate this 928 from 0-60 mph in approximately 6.0 seconds.  Clutch operation for the S4 series was improved by the implementation of a larger diameter single-disc clutch.  Recent service was conducted on fluids, filters, A/C, fuel dampers, fuel accumulator, and brake booster.  The engine has no modifications and is said to be in excellent condition.

Included in the sale are a set of keys, service records, and tools. With tighter handling and more power than its predecessors, enthusiasts refer to the S4 series as the “sweet spot” of the 928 lineup. This rare, low-mileage, 5-speed 928 S4 presents an excellent opportunity for its next owner.

@allmack The buyer had a family emergency. Considering the circumstances, both Pcar and Vertex Auto decided to allow the buyer to get out of the deal.

What happened to this car 'selling' on August 31 on this same site?

  • VertexAuto (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Rascasse Yes, it was purchased from one of our parts customers. He acquired it through the passing of a business partner. I asked for records but they were never found. When we got the car in the warning light was coming on and the breaks were getting stuck. We went through the car top to bottom and addressed any issues we found. That included A/C work, fuel dampers, fuel accumulator, and a brake booster. We also changed the fluids and filters. Nothing else was needed mechanically. The remaining needs are all cosmetic. The exterior has some rock chips and scratches that can be seen in the pics. We could have them corrected for a few hundred dollars, but this looks to be a mostly original paint car. I can document them more closely if you would like. On the interior, it can use a professional deep cleaning of the carpets. The rear center console has a small tear in it. It's shown in various pics. The rear quarter panels are a bit warped which is very common on these. The clock on the center console is broken. Other than the above stated defects the car is in fantastic condition. Thank you for asking!

Usually cars that have been this well cared for are enthusiast owned have a plethora of records. Was this a trade, auction car? How did you get it it? What does the car need? Suspension, engine, gearbox, cosmetics?

@JNasty @BarryLe Unfortunately, this vehicle doesn't come with service history except for the service we have done, which is stated in the listing above. If the winning bidder would like for us to do the timing belt, rollers, and water pump we can do it for a reduced rate of about $1,700.

@seller - do we know when the last TB and WP service was? Also, and prior records?

  • BarryLe (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Seller: Has the car ever had a belt and water pump service?
