Up for auction is this tastefully modified 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo presented in Guards Red over a black interior.  Undergoing a comprehensive restoration campaign only a few years ago, this incredible 1987 example boasts a long list of service items and performance upgrades.  Now being offered for auction out of Ohio, this Turbo is waiting to be enjoyed by a new owner.

This Turbo has been refinished in its original color of Guards Red.  The seller notes the exterior to be in fantastic shape with minimal signs of wear; detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  Modifications include black vinyl stone guards and a Rennline racing tow hook.  This 944 rides on factory 16” phone dial wheels which are currently wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact tires.

Inside, the black interior has been enhanced with custom modifications including RS-style door panels, Rennline pedals and a 350mm Momo steering wheel.  Track safety features include Sparco Evo front seats, a Rennline fire extinguisher mount and a Redline harness bar which has been paired with a Schroth Flexi-Belt camlock harness.  The seller notes that new carpeting has been installed and that all gauges, electrical components and accessories remain fully functional.

This 944 is equipped with a 2.5L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine rated at 220HP and 243 lb-ft of torque in stock form. The rear wheels are driven by way of a smooth 5-speed manual transmission which features a short shifter for even quicker gear changes.  Having been under the care of an automotive engineer, this 944 underwent a complete overhaul in 2013 and has received regular scheduled maintenance since.  Recently the engine started to omit smoke from the exhaust at idle but runs cool and still has the power you would expect from the modifications that were made.  Some noteworthy service items and performance upgrades include:

  • Paragon/Koni Adjustable Coilovers
  • Turbo S Intake Manifold
  • Lindsey Racing Super 53 Turbocharger
  • Lindsey Racing Stage II Intercooler
  • Lindsey Racing Exhaust
  • Manual Boost Controller
  • Dual Port Wastegate
  • Rogue Tuning MAF Conversion
  • 55lb. Siemens Fuel Injectors
  • Stainless Steel Brake Lines
  • Suspension Refresh
  • Reconditioned Steering Rack
  • Resealed Crankcase
  • New Belts, Seals, Gaskets and Bearings

A complete list of maintenance items and performance upgrades is provided in the photo gallery.  This 944 is confirmed to be in good driving condition, however smoke is evident through the tailpipe at idle and the brake pedal is said to feel rather light.  The seller recommends additional brake bleeding to correct this Issue.

The sale of this 944 will include books and maintenance manuals, one key, spare parts, a clear title and full set of seven workshop manuals in original burgundy binders.  Do not miss your chance to own this thoughtfully upgraded and well-presented Porsche 944 Turbo.

@Porsche911 Belts have been removed. The Redline Roll bar is also able to be removed with the seats out. Just a bolt-in.
No recent PPI after that last few rounds of shop work.

Thanks for the update. I Assumed that with the upgraded suspension , it may have been to the track. Have the original3 point seat belts been removed? I’m guessing the roll cage can be removed with a little effort. Has a POI been completed for the car?

3 point seat belts been removed.

@Porsche911 unfortunately, I no longer have the original interior components.

So this car, ironically given all the work I did, never saw the track. It’s the curse of the engineer I guess to always keep improving, but I never even autocrossed it in all these years. When I purchased the car, it didn’t have any mods indicating a track life. I’d love for someone now to give this car the life it deserves.

In the years I’ve owners it, I probably put on no more than 5k street miles.

How many years/ mikes has it spent on the track. I would like to convert it bank to a street car

  • Porsche911 (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Do you have access to the original interior to convert it back to a street car?

@WarBonnetPres Auto Assets and Steinel’s in Ohio both addressed through leaning out the very rich condition. I’m in good AFR range, so we don’t believe it is fuel. I did compression test dry and wet a few years ago and also saw good numbers.
My guess is oil through the Lindsey turbo.

  • WarBonnetPres (registered bidder) 4 years, 2 monthsago

On the engine smoking, have you had a professional opinion made upon the reason? Is it due to running rich as you could monitor with the AF meter or is it valve guides or bore scoring, etc?
