Up for auction is this 1987 Porsche 944 finished in Flamingo Metallic over a Burgundy interior. Benefitting from the 944’s mid-cycle update of 1985, this desirable 5-speed 1987 example features a redesigned interior and upgraded suspension among other mechanical improvements over its predecessors. Having reportedly remained garage-kept under the care of its original owner while receiving routine annual maintenance, this 944 is now being offered for auction out of Wisconsin showing approximately 36k miles on the odometer*.

This 944 is finished in Flamingo Metallic, a unique shade offered exclusively on the Porsche 944 for the 1987 model year.  This transaxle sports car is defined by its box fender flares, pop-up headlights, and polyurethane rear spoiler surrounding the glass hatch. A custom reflector panel has been added to the license plate recess below the trunk lid and the seller describes the finish to remain well preserved overall while showing a few minor chips and touch-ups.  Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a damage-free CARFAX report. This 944 rides on a set of factory 15” Phone Dial alloy wheels dressed in Firestone Firehawk GT tires.

Inside, you will find a well-kept Burgundy partial leather interior. As part of the mid-year 1985 update, the 944 received a new interior featuring a redesigned dashboard with larger air vents, revised switches, new A/C and heating controls, and an enclosed instrument cluster with four round dials. This 944 comes factory equipped with a power-adjustable driver's seat, power windows and mirrors, an electric tilting sunroof, and a Blaupunkt radio. The controls for a vintage Bel Micro Eye Express radar detector are mounted in the storage cubby below the radio.

This 944 is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5L inline 4-cylinder engine which was updated with redesigned combustion chambers and modified cam profiles for the second phase of 944 production. Approximately 150 HP is delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller states that routine service has been carried annually throughout the lifetime of the car, and more recently in July of 2021 the clutch and brake master cylinders were replaced along with their corresponding fluids. A corresponding invoice can be found in the gallery.

* The CARFAX report shows a Not Actual Miles (NAM) title issued by the state of Wisconsin in 1987, although the original owner contests that the mileage displayed on the odometer is true and accurate. A Wisconsin title with a “Not Actual – Unverified” mileage brand will accompany the sale.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals, multiple sets of keys, some service records, and a branded Wisconsin title.  With its stunning color combination and unbroken history of ownership, this 944 is ready to be enjoyed by a new caretaker.

The car has no sigh of oil leaks and sits on blocks during the winter months.
It is used during the summer months. We are older and not riding all over just because it is a sport car. People around here feel that it is worth much more. I have a file on the car but don't have time to dwell on it.Other busyness to keep up with in life.

I just want to make myself clear here. This is a great looking 944, the colour combo and originality really speak to me. My comments aren’t to disrupt or tarnish the auction in any way ( Please bid with confidence) but from the sounds of it this car will need all the major service completed before it’s safe to drive. Not knowing anything about service history or not having past service records makes this a hard sale for me. I’ve owned 15 944’s over 11 years I know these cars inside out. GLWTA I wish I could bring this one home.

    @Simby317,
    What Pormans said is correct.
Since you’ve owned the car since it was new you should have maintenance paperwork that shows the important (vital really) replacement of the belts, and other items.
If you don’t have the records, maybe your shop does.
    It’s actually quite important.

The one receipt you posted hints that the car might have been sitting unused for awhile and possibly not serviced annually in the recent past. Is this correct?
Looks like 1,500 miles in the last 13 years.

@Simby317 thanks , you’re are correct, not at all what I’m looking for. Your the original owner, you should know more about your vehicle. I wouldn’t even start this vehicle not knowing how old those belts are. GLWTA….

This is a family car and not a show car therefor we don't baby it. Is used in summer for short trips. I'm not a mechanic so don't dwell on it. Sorry it may not be what you are looking for.

The bid is not what we can accept

How long has this car been sitting for? Oil leaks?
Do you have complete service history for this car? When was the timing belts, rollers, tensioner, water pump and seals last done? Timing belts should be replaced every 5 years regardless of millage. Your service records should say when they were last done, How about new factory Porsche engine mounts? Have they ever been replaced?
Few cosmetic issues but very nice example. The 6 “clear” rock guards on this car will be very difficult to remove without damaging the paint. I can’t believe they’ve never been replaced after 35 years. Also the hood struts not working? Such a cheap and easy fix why use a pole?, ’ll be watching this auctions but I’m worried this car may not be safe to drive home,

Have no idea since mechanic has not mentioned it to us.

  • Simby317 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Dealer filled the title info when purchased and somehow this is what we received from DMV. Don't know if they even looked at odometer?

  • BScifers (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Very clean and nice looking car! Would you please explain how the title came to be branded? Carfax isn't any help, as it even states that TMU may have been reported by owner to the DMV. Very puzzling. Thanks and GLWA!
