A military off-road variant of the first-generation G-Wagon, the Mercedes-Benz 240GD Wolf has gained recognition for its strong chassis and rugged construction featuring full-time 4-wheel-drive, locking differentials, and solid axles. This 1988 example boasts military heritage with its current shade of green and matching canvas top, 16” steel wheels, and black vinyl upholstery. Reportedly an original Denmark army vehicle, this example was relocated to Poland before being imported to the United States. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
This Wolf variant comes finished in green with a matching removable canvas top and frame. Its boxy and angular bodywork is outfitted with a fold-down windshield, pronounced fender flares, a rear-mounted spare tire, rear mudflaps, and black-finished bumpers, mirrors, and side moldings. It rides on black-finished 16” steel wheels dressed in BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires. The seller states the vehicle was likely refinished at one point, and some spots of corrosion are noted which is most apparent on the rear passenger-side fender well. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin equips black vinyl-trimmed front seats, folding rear seats, and a rear storage box. Appointments include a 4-spoke steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, a passenger-side grab handle, center console-mounted differential controls, rubber floor mats, and a tool carrier behind the front seats. The upgraded Blaupunkt stereo is currently inoperable, and the odometer occasionally gets stuck. The seller reports that the key to open the passenger door and hatch is mismatched and currently locked, preventing those doors from being opened.
Power is derived from a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter OM616 diesel inline-four driving all four wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Performance features include locking front and rear differentials and power-assisted brakes. The seller notes an oil leak is present although the source has not been identified.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “The car is charming and looks very cool. I've only driven it about 150 km and have attended a couple of cars and coffee with it. Everyone loves it and asks what it is! It's a head-turner everywhere you go. It runs strong and needs some odds and ends sorted, but once they are, it should be an even better car than it currently is. A gateway G-Wagon for enthusiasts!”
