Now available for auction is this 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet finished in Black over a Silver-Grey leather interior.  Equipped with a sought-after G50 5-speed manual transmission, this Carrera also came factory optioned with a limited-slip differential, Sports shock absorbers, and 8-way power-adjustable front seats.  This 1988 example was first purchased in New Jersey before moving to California in 1992 at just over 11k miles.  It has always remained under the care of the same family and has reportedly spent much of its life stored in a garage.  The seller eventually acquired the car in 2020 and has since carried out a thorough inspection and refurbishment at a cost of over $8k.  Currently showing just over 27k miles on the odometer, this well-preserved Carrera Cabriolet is being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

The Carrera is finished in Black with a matching cabriolet soft top and tonneau cover.  The left front fender and driver’s side door are said to have been refinished early on in the car’s life, and these areas currently show some minor blemishes and waviness.  The rear decklid was also recently refinished for cosmetic purposes.  Some minor burn-through marks are noted on the driver’s side rear quarter panel along with a small blemish on the front hood near the Porsche crest, and a dent on the lower passenger side rocker panel near the jack point.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  The factory 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels measure 6” wide in the front and 7” wide in the rear, and come dressed in Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires showing date codes 2015 with approximately 9.5mm tread depth.

Inside, this Carrera has been appointed with a Silver-Grey leather interior contrasted by black seat piping.  Optional factory features include automatic speed control and 8-way power-adjustable seats left and right.  The cabin is shown to have been well maintained with only minor wear noted on the shift knob.  An aftermarket stereo has been installed and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional with a recently rebuilt A/C system including a new compressor.

This late model Carrera is equipped with an air-cooled 3.2L flat-six engine that sends up to 217 HP to the rear wheels through a desirable G50 5-speed manual transmission with a factory optioned limited-slip differential (220).  The handling is also improved with factory-optioned Sports shock absorbers (474).  Upon the seller’s acquisition in 2020, a thorough inspection was conducted before a major refurbishment was carried out by Hi-Tec Automotive at a cost of $8,648.  Items addressed during this time included a new turn signal switch, alternator, new rear spring plate and trailing arm bushings, new front control arm bushings, a new engine insulation pad, fuel line replacements, a new thermostat O-ring and oil pressure sender, airbox, brake light, and more.  Additionally, the brakes have received a full refurbishment including fully rebuilt calibers.  The inspection report and recent refurbishment invoice are provided for reference in the photo gallery along with some additional service history.

This sale will include a key set, original owner's manuals, stamped maintenance booklet, a toolkit, spare tire, air compressor, service records, and a clean title. One-family-owned and with low mileage, this beautiful '88 Carrera Cabriolet is ready to be cherished by its next caretaker.

    @Moby242 1988 has a manual top.
    Everything works perfectly and the fabric and plastic window are in excellent condition.
    In the photos you can also see that the zipper is also working properly.

    @PineGroveCayenne No accidents or collisions. This is also something that we throughly look for in our PPI.
    The fender and door were done early in the life of the Carrera for cosmetic reasons, garage mishap.
    It had also had a whale tail installed on the rear deck lid from the owner which was very popular at that time. We sourced the correct rear deck lid, had it painted, installed the correct factory decals under the hood and properly returned it to original.

    With the refinished fender and door, and rear deck lid, was this car involved in an accident in its history?

    @Jrorech The family did not keep good records of the cabriolet. I can attest to this as I have grown up with these cars starting with 356's all the way up the line. When we got the cars serviced the receipts would go into a drawer or something else and never actually made it with the car when we sold it.

  • Jrorech (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

    @hitecauto has it been consistently serviced by the Porsche dealer? Is there records of that? Ty.
