1988 Porsche 993 RSR-Style Race Car 3.8L

Up for auction is this purpose-built 993-style RSR race car based on a 1988 Carrera.  This 911 is said to have been purchased new by the current owner and driven on the street up until 1998 when the car underwent a complete track-oriented RSR conversion.  It was fitted with lightweight carbon fiber 993 body panels, a full racing cockpit, staggered BBS wheels, adjustable coil-overs, a 996 GT3 6-speed gearbox, and a twin-plug 3.8 L flat-six engine featuring individual throttle bodies, electronic fuel injection, and a MoTeC ECU.  It is also said to have an extensive racing history with HSR, SCCA, VDCA, and SVRA. Accompanied by its racing logbook, trophies, comprehensive records, and a bill of sale, this highly competitive race car is now being offered on behalf of its original owner out of North Carolina.

During its initial transformation, this Carrera was completely reassembled with removable carbon fiber 993-style body panels painted in White.  The original floor pans have been retained and the windows have all been replaced with lightweight Plexiglas.  Other features include a large rear spoiler, side air ducts, a center-fill front hood, tow hooks, and staggered 18”/19” 3-piece BBS wheels that come dressed in Falken Azenis tires.

The interior has been totally stripped out and converted to a lightweight racing cockpit.  A carbon fiber dashboard has been installed along with a carbon fiber OMP racing seat, a full tubular roll cage, fire suppression system, a MoTeC digital dash display, and a MOMO steering wheel.  Auxiliary gauges have been added to monitor oil pressure and voltage as well as a digital stopwatch for clocking lap times.  Some other features include a drilled aluminum throttle pedal, a custom fabricated center console, a driver’s window net, and Teamtech safety harnesses.

This 911 was fitted with a custom-built air-cooled 3.8 L flat-six engine based on a 964 case.  The engine features upgraded internals, Cox Motorsports headers, Pro Technik Racing slide valve individual throttle bodies, electronic fuel injection, twin-plug ignition, a 964 Cup clutch and flywheel, a custom billet cradle, and MoTeC engine management.  Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 996 GT3-sourced 6-speed manual gearbox with a Guard limited-slip differential.  Other performance upgrades include Brembo monoblock calipers, a Fuel Safe, and an adjustable raised spindle coil-over suspension with a 935-style tubular front end, bump-steer correction end links, and Elephant Racing articulating ASP rear spring plate assemblies.  The seller recommends a full service prior to track use and a vast collection of records is provided for reference in the photo gallery detailing a truly staggering amount of work.

This sale will include a racing logbook, trophies, extensive records, and a bill of sale.  If you are in search of a highly competitive air-cooled race car, this no-expense-spared 3.8 L 993 RSR-style build makes a perfect choice.

@airpower The white RSR you run each year at the Daytona Classic is bad to the bone!
The motor on our RSR was built by Paul Willison- Willison Werksatt. Paul builds motors for the Collier Collection, gold standard!

  • Swiftmotoring (seller) 1 monthago

@911reasons The RSR requires 110 race fuel.

  • Swiftmotoring (seller) 1 monthago

@eurocol The RSR is registered in the state of Florida and does have the original title, it is a one owner Porsche.....slightly modified!
The transmission is fresh, unfortunately we are not sure of the time in the motor. As with any race car that has not been run in a while, it should have a thorough inspection by your mechanic.

    Lovely car,
if it was a street car then it should still have the 1988 title somewhere, and
which state was it last registered in?
The bills of $ 850K are simply extraordinary,
so obviously they have been amortized by the fun and thrill of racing such a beast.
The costs to bring it current and make it competitive today can only be through the roof.
I don't see that you answered how many hours are on the engine and what events have been run since 2016 which appears to be the last bill.

This is cool and clean build, assuming it's in 80-100k range

  • 911reasons (registered bidder) 1 monthago

What type of fuel does this car runs on?

  • airpower (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Very cool car! Who built the motor? WE run a similar 993RSR in HSR; group 10. We're up against water pumper 997s. Its a tough program. This car has a lot of old school cool stuff, charlie bars, 996 box, Penskes......if the reserve is anything near wheat it costs to build this it'll be a tough sell. Good Luck!!
