We are pleased to offer this collector-grade 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster finished in Guards Red over tan.  Offered for the 1989 model year only, the 911 Speedster remains one of the rarest and most collectible air-cooled cars of all time, with its styling inspired by the original 356 Speedster of the 1950s.  This particular example is one of only 823 Speedsters to have been specified for the U.S. market and was presented to its original owner at the factory in Stuttgart through Porsche’s Tourist Delivery program.  After delivery, the car was shipped back to the owner’s home in California where it remained up until 2003 before being sold to a collector in Oregon who would cover less than 800 miles during a ten-year period of ownership.  In 2013 the car was acquired by its current owner, a prominent collector in New York, who has kept the car on display in a climate-controlled museum setting.  Easily one of the best-preserved examples available, this stunning ’89 Speedster is now being offered for auction while showing just over 15k miles on the odometer.

The Guards Red finish is noted to be entirely original and in nearly flawless condition, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX.  The Speedster is distinguished by its short, steeply raked, aluminum-framed windshield and signature double-hump rear fairings.  As with most Speedsters, this example also left the factory with wide Turbo-Look fenders and 6”x 7” wide Fuchs wheels.  These 16” wheels are currently dressed in Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires.

Inside, you will find a beautifully presented and highly original tan interior.  The Sport Seats are positioned lower in the Speedster model to accommodate for the lower roofline.  The rear seats are omitted in place of a luggage compartment.  Options selected for this example include a Blaupunkt Charleston SQR 26 radio, a shorter-throw shifter for the G50 manual gearbox, an electric driver’s seat adjustment, and air conditioning.

The air-cooled 3.2L flat-six engine in this Speedster generates as much as 217 HP, which is sent to the rear wheels through a desirable G50 5-speed manual gearbox.  Coinciding with its Turbo-Look fenders, this model also received the upgraded brakes and suspension setup of the Turbo model.  Maintenance records and documentation is available dating back to the original owner’s purchase.  Upon taking delivery of the car in 2013, the current owner had a comprehensive service completed by an air-cooled Porsche specialist including the following items:

  • 15k mile service
  • Major tune-up w/ valve adjustment
  • Reseal all engine peripherals
  • Replaced gaskets and hoses
  • New tires
  • Replace window cranks
  • Washer pump
  • Hood struts
  • Rebuild shifter

This sale will include an extensive collection of records and documentation, a copy of the original bill of sale, Tourist Delivery papers, two sets of keys, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and a clean New York title.  No world-class Porsche collection is complete without the original 911 Speedster, and this particular example is easily one of the finest available anywhere.

Agree with other posters. The prices of speedsters are bound to leap up as people are paying $100k now for base low miles carrera cabs. The speedster lines are so much more beautiful, plus they’re rare! Love this one...

I agree, with 3.2 Carrera's hitting all time highs 89 Speedster should be in the high $200's and beyond.

@Philberjason Yes, it was either 2014 or 2015 when I watched a white speedster sell in Monterey at Mecum for $305,000 and then you had to add a 10% buyers premium for all in at $335,500

  • Philberjason (registered bidder) 2 years, 12 monthsago

@Whatever123 Totally agree! A Standard 15k miles g body car will sell for over $100k today. How is this car not worth over $200k or more? Puzzling. Not too long ago this car would do $250-300k. We’ll see in a few hours

I'll never understand the 89 speedster's. The other day on another auction site a white run of the mill 89 911 with I believe 20k miles brought $100K. And this beautiful and rare limited production and only real speedster since the originals in the 50's is only at $150k

Hello everyone and welcome to the auction for this amazing Speedster. With the factory turbo widebody this has always been my favorite speedster to look at and in the red/tan combo it’s even that much more stunning. The car is at PCARMARKET’s facility in NY and is available for your inspections Mon-Fri. There will be no disappointments with this car, bid with confidence!!

  • EUROsellinc (seller) 3 yearsago

@911 The winner of the car was unable to finalize the transaction a few years ago. The owner decided to keep the car in his collection until offering it for sale here today.
