We are pleased to offer this 1990 Chevrolet C4 Corvette ZR-1. Introduced at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show, the Corvette ZR-1 was one of the most highly acclaimed sports cars of its day featuring a selective ride control suspension, 6-speed ZF transmission, and a special aluminum-block 5.7L V8 developed in collaboration with Lotus. This 1990 example was sold new from Soundview Chevrolet of New York finished in Black over a Gray leather interior with adjustable sport bucket seats. Accompanied by its original books and window sticker, this launch-year ZR-1 is now being offered for auction out of New York showing just under 5k miles on the odometer.
This Corvette was ordered in nonmetallic Black and comes with both a solid and transparent removable hardtop. Compared to a standard Corvette, the ZR-1 was equipped with a wider tail section, rectangular taillights, a new convex rear fascia, and different doors to accommodate the wider rear track and oversize 315/35 tires. The 17” aluminum wheels measure 9.5” wide in front, 11” wide in the rear, and come dressed in Goodyear Eagle tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Gray leather with matching carpets and features 6-way adjustable sport bucket seats. The ZR-1 also comes standard with solar glass, a premium Delco Bose Gold Series sound system, heated outer mirrors, remote rear hatch release, power locks, power windows, and electronic speed control. This example was also optioned with electronic air conditioning. The cabin remains true to its original appearance and its condition is depicted in the photo gallery.
For the ZR-1 model, GM enlisted the help of Lotus to design the 5.7L LT5 V8. This all-aluminum 32-valve DOHC engine features Nikasil-coated cylinders, tuned port injection, a unique two-valve induction system, and delivers up to 375 HP to the rear wheels through a 6-speed ZF manual transmission. The ZR-1 Performance Package also adds larger brakes, a high-capacity cooling system, and the FX3 selective ride control suspension which offers variable damping settings for different drive modes. Media tests found the ZR-1 capable of accelerating from 0-60 MPH in just over 4 seconds on its way to a top speed of 175 MPH. The car has been in storage for many years and the seller reports it starts, runs, and drives well.
This sale will include the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, sales documents, and a clean title. CARFAX shows a vehicle purchase reported in January of 2012 and the mileage recorded at this time is believed to be erroneous. An excellent investment and collecting opportunity, this beautifully preserved ZR-1 is not to be missed. The seller will be donating the proceeds from this sale to The Research Charitable Land Conservation Trust which is an organization that owns and maintains a 125 acre preserve waterfront on 2 harbors located in Cove Neck, NY.
