Originally designed for military use as an off-road vehicle, the iconic Mercedes G-Class debuted in the consumer market in 1979, gradually transforming into a prestigious luxury SUV over its four-decade-long production history. Featuring a 3.0-liter diesel engine, this 300GD comes finished in green over grey cloth upholstery. Initially delivered in France, this European-market example is said to have been imported from Poland in March of 2023. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York while showing approximately 435k kilometers (270k miles) on the odometer.

This short wheelbase G-Class comes finished in its current shade of green contrasted with black-finished bumpers, mirrors, window trim, fender flares, and body side moldings. It rides on silver-finished Mercedes-Benz 5-spoke aluminum wheels with mixed tires. The seller notes some scratches, dings, paint imperfections, and a small area that seems to have been refinished. The tires are also in need of replacement. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the cabin is upholstered in patterned grey cloth with Zebrano wood trim accents on the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Features include a passenger grab handle, a lockable glove compartment, climate controls, and various drivetrain switches. The seller notes some surface scratches along with some cracking on the trim. The radio and air conditioning systems are currently inoperable, and the tachometer is malfunctioning.

This 300GD is equipped with an OM603 3.0-liter diesel inline-six engine that was factory-rated at 113 HP and 141 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and three locking differentials. Stopping power is provided by front disc brakes and rear drums. The seller states that a cone filter has been added, the stock airbox was removed, and upon starting the vehicle some smoke exits the exhaust pipe.

This sale will include a clean title and some documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “This early G-Wagon starts up easily, accelerates quickly, and cruises comfortably at highway speeds. It’s not perfect and some smoke exits the exhaust upon start/idle. I’m not sure of the cause but this is a commonality of diesel cars. Being a 2-door example, it is a rare sight at events and turns heads. It has the great utilitarian build quality you would expect from the Mercedes-Benz G-Class."

@Bayan44 Hi, I don’t know anyone by that name. The car was purchased independently.

Hi Vintageutoimports. Have you dealt with Marcin or Adam who also sell Gelandewagens out of Poland?

    https://www.adamglowinski.net/

I tried to purchase (along with many others) a GD250 from Poland. At the time their "business" was called PolClassics. They were outright crooks. I lost $42k (and no car) and found 6-8 others had similar and much worse outcomes.

Curious if they have the same reputation in Poland as they do abroad?

Thanks @vintageautoimports. Would you be able to share photos of the rear upper spring perches and upper shock mounts?

@kfine I've been daily driving it for 3 weeks, and it's been smooth and drives fine with no vibration. It's honestly way more comfortable than the previous 290GD's that I sold on here. I suspect because it's a 463 chassis versus a 461. When I did an inspection of the car, it looked like bushings, etc. had been changed in its history (I don't know how recently). I haven't felt any hard or harsh bumps and I believe when the new owner puts on fresh tires, the ride quality will get even better.

The only records are shown in the pictures provided. They're in French and I can't really translate them, and they seem to be from years ago. In all transparency, this car was imported with practically no service history/knowledge. I'm trying to answer everything honestly and openly.

    Thanks for your interest.

How does the truck drive at highway speed? Are there any vibrations? Do you happen to have any service records regarding the wheel bearings or CVs in the front?

    Thanks!

@penelope70 I’ve had it on the road the last 3-4 weeks. Yes to both.

@seller - Has the AC and Radio been inoperable for the entire time you've owned it?

  • vintageautoimports (seller) 6 months, 2 weeksago

@Littlehandegan I just uploaded the requested photos/videos. They should be on the listing shortly. Thanks for your interest.

  • Littlehandegan (registered bidder) 6 months, 2 weeksago

Thanks - a video showing a full cold start so we can see how much smoke and showing the blow by would be helpful to see how close to rebuild the engine is

Also possible to do a video in sun to point out flaws/imperfections?

    Thank you

@Littlehandegan I'm sorry, but I cannot do a video demonstrating lockers engaged and unengaged due to the age of the vehicle and the lack of history. There is a risk of leaving the car in an inoperable state, and I don't want to take that risk while it's for sale.
If there's a way to demonstrate a blow-by video with the oil cap (i'm not sure what that is), please direct message me with a link to show how it's done.

  • Littlehandegan (registered bidder) 6 months, 2 weeksago

Can you do a video demonstrating lockers engaged and unengaged?

Also a blow by video with oil cap?

    Thanks!
