Now available for auction is this custom Sunburst Porsche 964 Carrera finished in Mexico Blue.  This 1990 example underwent a full custom widebody transformation by Sunburst before making an appearance during the 2019 SEMA auto show as part of the Toyo tires display.  Also upgraded with Moton 2-way adjustable coil overs, “Big Red” Turbo brakes, Work Meister 3-piece wheels, and a custom rebuilt G50 transmission with straight-cut gears and shorter ratios, this 964 delivers the performance to match its aggressive styling.  With over $40k worth of recent work carried out to bring the car up to its current standards, this one-of-a-kind Porsche 964 is now being offered by its seller California with approximately 65k miles showing on the odometer.

The show-quality Mexico Blue finish on this 964 is said to remain in excellent condition. CARFAX shows an incident in 1999 which reportedly caused damage to the rear of the car. (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The fiberglass Sunburst widebody conversion includes vented RSR-style front and rear fender flares, a 934-style front bumper, and a ducktail rear decklid.  Other details include aero mirrors, black projector headlights, and 18” Work Meister 3-piece forged wheels dressed in brand new Toyo Proxes tires.

Inside, the cabin has been modified with Sparco seats, an Alcantara MOMO steering wheel, and a metal shift knob.  A new RS carpet kit has also been installed along with lightweight RS door panels.  The rear seatbacks have been removed and all gauges and electronics are said to be working properly, although there are currently no door speakers for the stereo.

The air-cooled 3.6 L flat-six engine in this Carrera has been upgraded with a single-mass flywheel, stiffer GT3 mounts, and a custom exhaust system with a Magnaflow muffler.  247HP stock is delivered to the rear wheels through 5-speed G50 manual transmission which has been rebuilt with straight-cut gears and closer ratios for quicker acceleration.  Other performance upgrades include Moton 2-way adjustable coil-overs, a strut tower brace, 4-way adjustable camber plates, and “Big Red” 911 Turbo brakes.  All wheel bearings were replaced within the last 2 years and service performed earlier in 2020 includes an oil and transmission fluid change.  Reported to have seen minimal use under the current ownership with approximately 3k miles driven since 2018, this 964 is said to be in excellent running order with routine maintenance up to date. This vehicle is also said to meet California smog requirements.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, a clean title, some service records, the original seats, an assortment of spare parts, an owner’s manual, jack, and spare tire.  Offering up exotic styling and exciting performance upgrades, this Sunburst widebody 964 SEMA show car is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

@jasonbam Can you possibly snap some quick pics with your cell of the undercarriage especially engine area?

  • jasonbam (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Need4SpeedGuy1 only one warning light and it’s because the stock tail is supposed to rise up at 50mph and because I put a duck tail on it the sensor trips. Also the original mechanical wing comes with the car.

  • Need4SpeedGuy1 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@jasonbam I noticed a couple of warning lights on what were those?

  • jasonbam (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

One more thing would a current CA smog certification be issued with transfer of title?

  • Need4SpeedGuy1 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

One other question do you have any pictures of the undercarriage?

  • Need4SpeedGuy1 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

I sold this car for SVAC, it's a really great driving car.. Fastest NA 3.6 liter 964 I have driven.

  • SVAC (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

I owned this car a few years ago. The description states that it had rear end damage. I do not believe this to be true. It was backed into at a stop light in Salt Lake City, but then driven to the body shop. The damage was minor. The body is straight and rust free.

This car also held the track record for it's class at Auto Club Raceway.

This is a great car with a great history!

Mechanic states car in good running order. Compression good, no leaks, clean oil, no debris in trans fluid. Missing rear sway bar but links are there. Overall “good” condition. Nothing jumps out at him that needs repair or replace mechanically speaking. He is currently fixing the driver door locking mechanism and replacing felt on the sunroof. Adjusting the parking brake and giving it a true alignment. All suspensions parts and bushings/bearings in good condition. So far he is happy with what he has seen.

  • jasonbam (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@AC415 No, no clearance issues full left or right.

  • MarkZ2005 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@jasonbam thanks for the update and great idea! Feedback on the condition of the tranny would be helpful given the straight cut gears.

  • AC415 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Are there any drivability issues with wheel/tire clearance when the steering is turned all the way? Thanks

  • jasonbam (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Yesterday I dropped the car off at a well known porsche specialist for routine maintenance and asked him to give me a full once over on the car. He is going through it and will give me his opinion this afternoon on whether there are any mechanical issues that I should address. I asked him to do a compression test as well. I will be posting the findings in a few hours. Just a disclaimer, I didn’t take it to him for any issues, just for bidders peace of mind.

@Need4SpeedGuy1 I wasn’t around for those incidents but it was my understanding that the car was used in club races and the damage was cosmetic only occurring during competition. I currently have the car at a very well respected porsche mech/builder and he is going through the car top to bottom. His initial inspection was clean. I’ve had the car for a few years and I can tell you that the car is a fabulous driver.

  • Need4SpeedGuy1 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Was there any damage to the frame or other vital components in the 2 accidents listed?

  • jasonbam (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@GTCarGuy7 yes it is registered currently and yes it will pass California smog. I just don’t know what I did with the tags.

  • GTCarGuy7 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

From the pictures, the CA tags expired in March of 2020. Are they now current? Will it pass CA smog as is currently?

@jasonbam thank you! I think that info is enough for me. This conversion is great.

  • jasonbam (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@MarkZ2005 Every state is different so I really can’t answer that honestly. In California we have very strict emissions requirements and I had to source oem heat exchanger/headers just so it would pass visual inspection. The headers were unbelievably expensive just to back to stock. All the lights and blinkers work. It has a brand new windshield. Other than that I can’t answer your question without knowing the requirements. Thanks for the inquiry.

@Ed_Turbo the original color was red. Yes I have receipts of the body work done from Sunburst.

  • Ed_Turbo (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

What was the original color of this 964? Do you have the receipts/proof of the Sunburst kit? Any documentation?

@energyof2 I will try to find the offset today

  • jasonbam (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@aircooledbucks no, I removed the livery. The car was painted just before Sema last year and it still needed to be cut and polished when the livery went on it. So I removed the vinyl and had the paint perfected.

  • energyof2 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@jasonbam Wonder if offset is stamped on the backside of the wheels near the valve stem?

  • aircooledbucks (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Is the Toyo Tire livery still on the car? Both sides?

  • TheUnscented 3 years, 4 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $2,700

  • jasonbam (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@TheUnscented I’m not sure the exact offset. As you can see they are three piece forged Work wheels and there are no spacers. The wheel bearing were replaced less than 2k miles ago so they should last quite a while. It does not blow cold but it does blow heat. I’ll see if I can take some pics of the underside and post them soon.

  • TheUnscented (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

If my bid holds, there will be plenty of room in the budget for that Pink engine. More questions: What is the offset on those Work Meister 3-piece wheels? Are there also spacers in play? I don't imagine a long life for the wheel bearings. There is an AC compressor, does it blow cold? Does the car also have heat? Any photos of the underside available. TIA

  • jasonbam (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@TheUnscented It sounds like there is not a lot of power but for a car that only weighs 2700 lbs it really moves. There is always the option of calling Ed Pink Engines and putting an $80k 400 hp engine in. That’s up to the buyer.
