Now up for auction is this 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet finished in Alpine White over a Linen partial leather interior. Marking the final evolution of the Porsche 944, the S2 model was launched in 1989 featuring a larger 3.0L 4-cylinder engine and updated styling derived from the Turbo model. Originally sold in New Jersey, this 944 eventually made it was down to Florida where it was purchased from the original owner by the seller’s family in 2006. The car is said to have been garage-kept and sparingly driven ever since with approximately 55k miles currently showing on the odometer. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California accompanied by the original books, toolkit, spare tire, and service records.
This S2 is finished in Alpine White with a black convertible top, and the car is noted to have been garage kept for most of its life. Some cosmetic imperfections are present throughout the exterior including a small blemish on the passenger-side front fender. The third-brake light has one missing bulb, and signs of age are reported on the clear stone guards and cabriolet top rear window, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The 944 S2 distinguishes itself from earlier models by its Turbo-derived front fascia and rear valence. This particular example features body-colored side moldings and aftermarket 18” three-piece wheels that are currently dressed in older BFGoodrich tires.
Inside, this 944 features a Linen Grey partial leather interior with a contrasting black dashboard and upper door panels. Factory options include power-operated front seats, cruise control, an alarm system, and air conditioning. The cabin shows to have been well preserved with only minor signs of wear noted. An aftermarket radio has been installed and the power convertible top motor has been disconnected as a precautionary measure. The top remains manually operable, and all other gauges and accessories are said to be working properly aside from the automatic trunk release button. The seller notes that the odometer has been previously repaired and suspects less than a thousand-mile discrepancy.
This S2 carries a 3.0 L 16-valve inline 4-cylinder engine that sends up to 208 HP to the rear wheels through 5-speed manual transaxle. The timing belt is said to have been replaced in 2006 within the last 2k miles, and other maintenance items addressed more recently include a new starter motor, fluid and filter changes, new oil pan and valve cover gaskets, ignition components, a new oil pressure sender unit, and a new battery. Service records are provided for reference in the photo gallery.
The sale of this 944 will include the original owner's manual and maintenance book, toolkit, a spare tire, some service records, and a clean title. If you have been in search of a vintage transaxle Porsche, this 1990 S2 Cabriolet makes a fantastic choice.
