1990 Porsche 944 S2

Up for auction is this 1990 944 S2.  This 944 S2 Coupe holds its place in Porsche history by being one of less than 500 US coupe variations produced in 1990.  It was originally introduced as one of Porsche's premier normally aspirated performance cars.  This example was originally imported from Japan to Saskatoon, Canada, where it spent many years in a climate controlled environment.  The car is new being offered by the current owner out of Toronto, Canada in excellent turn-key condition.

The black paint is stated to be all-original and in well-above average condition.  Only minor signs of road going wear are present including a few front end rock chips and a chip on the rear bumper (reference photo gallery for a full overview of the interior).  From factory, the 944 S2 came standard with features from the Turbo model including an upgraded front bumper and valence, rocker panel extensions, and a rear diffuser panel.  This S2 also features block style Porsche writing on the bottom portion of the doors along with a factory sunroof delete.  Adding to the car's already aggressive look are a set of black coated OEM style 17" Carrera wheels that wear brand new Goodyear tires (the original wheels are included with the sale).

This 944 sports a black partial leather interior that is stated to be in great condition with minimal wear.  The dashboard is showing a few cracks, typical of a vehicle with this age and mileage.  Both the front and rear seats have been professionally reupholstered with bespoke red cloth inserts and are paired with a leather style wrapped red steering wheel center (a new OEM steering wheel is included with the sale).  The seller states that in November of 2012, the radio was upgraded to a Pioneer head unit and all speakers were replaced.

This 944 retains its original 3.0L inline-four cylinder engine that is mated to a desirable 5-speed manual transmission.  Producing 208HP and 207 lb-ft of torque, the car offers plenty of power for an exciting driving experience.  A service performed just this year included a full transmission flush, brake fluid flush, coolant flush, oil and filter change, new spark plugs, and recharged A/C.   Additional services include :

  • Timing belt tensioner
  • Balanced shaft tensioner
  • Waterpump
  • Auxiliary shaft roller
  • New thermostat

  • Major clutch job
  • Replaced clutch assembly
  • Replaced rear main seal
  • Replaced input shaft bearing
  • Resurfaced flywheel
  • Torque tube
  • Exhaust gaskets

  • Replaced cloth insert panels front and rear
  • Backrest bolster vinyl replaced
  • Fuel pump relay

The car is stated to be in excellent running condition.

The sale will include service records, a clean Carfax, all factory books, 2 keys, the original set of wheels, and an OEM steering wheel.

@ccrites412 Those are all plastic protective panels over the paint. Many S2's came with them as an option. I would prefer wire transfer over pay pal.

@Porsche416 I appreciate the response, that answers most of my questions for now. What about the rear panel behind the door on the passenger side? Paypal is nice because of how secure it is for both the buyer and seller.

@ccrites412 "16 Ventiler" which is german for 16 valve engine. I believe they came standard on the S2 models. Everything on the car works. Parking brake, wipers (drove it home in the rain unfortunately when I picked it up), headlights, windows, etc. I've driven this to work at least once a week since owning it and never had any issues. Not sure about payments on paypal. Let me ask the PCAR guys what they recommend but naturally you have to make an offer I'd accept first.

@Porsche416 What is the writing on the door ding guard molding right behind the reflector on both sides? My current 944 is blank there. The right, rear rocker panel appears to be fairly chipped compared to the drivers side. Does the parking brake work? Headlights, power windows, wipers, etc? Do you take paypal as payment for the vehicle?

@Turboted Yes- I believe that can be arranged through the PCARMARKET as well. Where are you located?

@ccrites412 The wires were previously connected to two aftermarket speakers the last owner put in. I removed the speakers (and their box) and the wires are now just capped. The speakers/box are pretty nice but I really didn't like the extra weight in the back.

What are the wires leading to in the trunk/hatch area? Do you have an email I can contact you with to exchange numbers for a few more questions?

  • Porsche416 (seller) 6 monthsago

@Greejeff since the car is over 25 years old, very little. Simple process of getting paperwork cleared at the border (there are many companies that can do this for a few hundred dollars). I will look for some write-ups and send you links in a second

  • Greejeff 6 monthsago

What would it take to import this to the US?

Just to clarify, this is 135,000 KM, not miles. The actual miles is 84,000
