1993 Porsche 964 Cabriolet 5-Speed

Up for auction is this 1993 Porsche 964 Cabriolet finished in Guards Red over a Black partial leather interior.  Representing one of the more increasingly desirable air-cooled generations, this 1993 964 features a 5-speed G50 manual transmission with a factory optioned limited-slip differential.  Said to have been carefully maintained while under the care of its 3 past owners, this 964 is now being offered with approximately 48k miles showing on the odometer by its seller in Ohio, accompanied by the original books, tools, radio, and window sticker.

The classic Guards Red finish is said to be in excellent condition, free of any noteworthy imperfections (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  CARFAX indicates a minor accident in 2014 under previous ownership that resulted in the refinishing of the rear bumper (under $500 worth of damage). The next owner was unsatisfied with the color match and reportedly had the rear end refinished including the rear bumper, rear quarters, and decklid. This 964 rides on factory 16” C2 5-spoke wheels that come dressed in Continental Extreme Contact tires.

Inside, the Black partial leather interior is said to have been beautifully preserved. An aftermarket Pioneer radio has been installed along with Coco floormats, and the cabin is said to be otherwise stock with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional including the power-operated seats.  The original radio will be included in the sale.

The 3.6L naturally aspirated M64 flat-six engine is rated 247 HP and is paired with a G50 5-speed manual gearbox featuring an optional limited-slip differential. The seller reports that this example has been meticulously cared for and that a comprehensive collection of service records will accompany the sale dating back to 1994.

Included in this sale is a set of two keys, manuals, a clean title, the original window sticker, original radio, service records, and the factory tonneau cover. Don’t miss your chance to own this impeccably well maintained 964 Cabriolet.

@Roma that is the factory Cosmoline undercoating

  • Roma (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Looks like a very nice car. As a newbie can the Seller or others comment on the light brown grime coasting the underside of the engine and a bit of the exhaust piping? Is that likely just road grime or possible road grime mixed with oil? I understand air cooled engines can leak oil a bit over time and it may not be too serious an issue, but in other instances it needs to be addressed. THX

@MTONE I think he was specifically answering whether or not that particular seal replacement is an engine out service or not, and not particularly talking about this car.

  • EMPTY77 1 month, 1 weekago

Ok, I’m only posting because I’m tired of the negative comments
I’m the owner of this car.
This car has never been abused, tracked or raced, my mechanic has told me if anything it’s been over serviced.
About the seals? Andy owner of autowerks told me that in the future these will need to be done, I’m told all air cools will need that in the future. This car has always been in a heated garage and has never leaked a drop.
I’m selling this car because I have a new 992 cab being delivered in April and I’d like to pass this one on.
I used this as my fair weather car because I owned a 991 C4 as a daily driver, I’m sort of killing 2 birds with one stone by getting this new cab.
    Any questions ?

Nice car. Good luck with the sale. Especially when people feel the need to post consistently negative comments and not bid. @dudette

@Tierod have you actually seen this car?
If not you don’t know .

@911dudette Yup Engine drop for that one. Notorious for seal leaks especially when they sit.

@911dudette We do not have any additional recent records. According to the owner, the oil leaks were not recommended to be addressed in the near term.

@allmack A little research is often your friend :)
1992-94 Cabs had the factory rear seat delete.

    Why no Carfax, auto check?

  • allmack (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

I had an early 964, an 89, and it had back seats. Unclear what's going on here.

  • 911dudette (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Thanks for posting the more recent service records. One follow up question. The 2020 record recommends brake pad replacement and references oils leaks at the both timing covers and front seal and well as torn rear bushings. Do you have any records showing these issues have been addressed? Isn’t the front seal is an engine out item? Thanks.

    @texasrudy I think it is
But please confirm with someone else I think it had something to do with the seatbelt laws and conforming to them

  • texasrudy (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

@MTONE oh no are you serious? I had seen many owners out front facing seats in the backs of their 911s to scoot with their kids or grandkids... Even SC models from the late 70s and early 80s!

Is this just a 1993 thing?

  • MTONE 1 month, 1 weekago

@texasrudy I don’t think porsche had rear seats in the 911 in 93
Had something to do with seatbelt laws that porsche couldn’t fulfill

  • texasrudy (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Great car. Where are the back seats? I ask because I'll need to have a forward facing car seat back there occasionally for the little one

    @911dudette -
Correction on service - we were missing receipts from 2018-2020 and just got them from Autowerks - they will be added to the listing. The car had an oil change, new Contiental tires, new rear hatch strut, fan shroud, convertible top motor repaired, and some other little things done in 2020. It should be all up-to-snuff in terms of maintenance and ready to party.

The owner also clarified the rear paintwork - he was not happy with the original bumper repair and the left rear quarter had a crease in it that he also wanted repaired.

  • switchcars (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

@911dudette Unfortunately we don’t have anymore details on why the rear end was painted. The Carfax shows less than $500 in damage when the rear bumper was repainted so the damage was very minor.

Photo #102 is showing minor rust bubbling, it has not been painted over.

    The seats are original.

The last service was in 2018 so the car will be due for an oil change.

We cannot drive this car here at the moment due to salt on the roads. A walk around video with the top operation will be posted shortly.

We will get the car on the lift and get those underside photos for you as soon as we can.

Nice looking car. I have several questions to gain some additional insight before bidding. Can you share any additional detail on the paint work done on the car? It is difficult to understand why the entire rear of the car was painted if the owner thought the bumper cover repaint did not match. On photo 102, is that rust that has been painted over? Hard to tell from the the photo what we are seeing. Are the seat covers aftermarket? Any record on when they were installed? The fit of driver's seat cover appears to be off somewhat when viewing the electric controls and the right leg bolster; just wondering how evident this is in real life. The stack of records show the top record only, dated 2018. Is that the most recent record available? Will you be posting a cold start, top operation, and/or driving video? Lastly, is it possible to see the bottom of the car with the engine shroud removed to verify the status of the of seals and gaskets? I wouldn't be asking if I wasn't interested. Thank you for your help.
