Equipped with a more powerful European-spec S50 engine, this 1994 BMW E36 M3 was sold new in Japan and was imported to Washington state in 2019 before being acquired by the seller in February of 2022. It comes finished in Diamond Black Metallic over a black cloth “M-Rain” interior and has been fitted with a carbon fiber front spoiler, shock tower braces, and a JDM-spec flip-out Alpine stereo head unit. Showing approximately 139k kilometers (86k miles) on the odometer, this Japanese-market E36 M3 is now being offered at auction by its seller out of California.
The body is finished in Diamond Black Metallic (181) with M3-specific bumpers, side skirts, and aerodynamic mirrors. Equipment includes Shadowline black trim, a rear spoiler, foglights, dual exhaust tips, and pop-out quarter windows. A carbon fiber front lip spoiler has been added as well as clear front corner turn signals and gloss black kidney grilles with M-colored striping. The 17” BMW Style 24 wheels are mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tires.
The interior features manually adjustable Vader sport seats with “M-Rain” patterned inserts and matching door panels. Amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, a power sunroof, an onboard trip computer, a leather-wrapped M-Sport steering wheel, M3-branded door sills, and an M instrument cluster. A red leather shift boot and knob have been added along with a Japanese-spec Alpine flip-out radio with GPS navigation. The onboard computer screen is said to be missing some pixels, some separation is noted on the driver’s door card, the sunroof occasionally fails to open all the way, and the air conditioning takes some time to blow cold.
The European-spec 3.0L S50 inline six-cylinder is rated at 286 HP and 235 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Front and rear shock tower braces have been fitted and the seller reports the brakes, fluids, and oil have been changed during their ownership. A slight squeaking noise is believed to be coming from a passenger-side wheel bearing.
This sale will include a clean title, owner's manuals, and some documentation.
