Available for auction is this 1994 Mercedes-Benz G320 two-door finished in Dark Green Metallic over a tan leather interior.  Representing a major shift in the evolution of Mercedes’ military-oriented Geländewagen, production of the W463 series G-Class began in 1990 as a more accommodating and luxurious version intended for civilian use. This short-wheelbase 1994 example was acquired from a dealer in Europe and subsequently imported to the United States by the seller. It is equipped with the revered M104 engine, three locking differentials, air conditioning, a lift kit, roof rack, and a Warn winch system. Now with approximately 125k kilometers (77k miles) showing on the odometer, this G320 is being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania.

This G320 was reportedly refinished in the current shade of Dark Green Metallic under previous ownership. The seller notes some light scratches and swirl marks throughout the finish, additional images can be found in the photo gallery.  The styling of the original G-Wagon was revised for the W463 generation making for a smoother, more street-oriented appearance. This example rides on factory 16” 5-spoke wheels which come dressed in Yokohama Geolander tires that are said to retain approximately 90% tread.  A full-size spare is also mounted on the roof rack.

Inside, the cabin is upholstered in tan leather with matching carpets and contrasting wood veneers on the dashboard, door panels, and center console. Features include power windows, air conditioning, heated front seats, a folding rear bench seat, and an aftermarket Kenwood radio. The seller notes that the carpets show signs of wear and that the passenger side power window operates slowly. A factory metric gauge cluster includes a 220-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, clock, and a combination gauge housing the fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure dials.

Power comes from a 3.2L M104 inline-six engine which produces up to 208HP and 221 lb.-ft of torque. All four wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission, two-speed transfer case, and locking front, center, and rear differentials. The seller notes that the truck is equipped with an aftermarket lift kit offering approximately 2” of extra clearance along with an off-road Warn winch in front. Images of the undercarriage are provided in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a clean title.  An offroad icon with an unprecedented following of enthusiasts, this European-spec short wheelbase G-Wagon offers incredible value as a unique and collectible 4x4.

In some of the pictures with the all white background, some parts under the car appear rusty, such as the rear diff and near the front brake rotors. Are those older photos and the truck treated for rust then undercarriage pictures were taken?

Why are you selling it on this site instead of others?

  • MendelGarage (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

I wanted to address a numerous questions about a head gasket. Thought my career in car business, I had a numerous Mercedeses with M104 motors from 300E 24 valve to S320, W124 AMG's with 3.4 and I still own a W210 Brabus with 3.6. Non of them had a head gasket problem. M117 is a different story and most of them leak. I also reached out to local Mercedes specialist and got a quote for head gasket replacement. It is $2500 including parts, labor and machine shop. So if buyer will decide that he wants to change a head gasket no matter what, it can be done for only $2500.

@CarsonRoberts99 There is no problems with the clear coat, I can made additional photos if needed.

  • CarsonRoberts99 2 years, 7 monthsago

It appears the car was keyed in some areas and then polished. It looks like the clear coat is wearing thin in some areas due to the polishing. Is that the case?

  • MendelGarage (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@DrPepper Thank you for your interest. The truck has no rust . Please PM me directly with the instructions where to find a date on wiring harness.

  • DrPepper (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

Hello, when was the head gasket last done on the engine? Certainly hope it’s not the original one that’s prone to failing. M104’s are great engine they just need some sorting. What’s the date code of the main engine wiring harness? Do you have a record of it being replaced? Is there any rust in the rear end?

  • MendelGarage (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@floman Thank you for your interest. The tire size is stock on t this but with the lift you can definitely go bigger with the tires . Looks like the previous owner was planing an off-road adventures, note the spare tire relocation and front winch bumper .

As someone that has done a few M104 head gaskets, has this one had a replacement yet?

    MendelGarage (seller)20 hours, 40 minutesago
@Orange911 Thank you for your interest, the head gasket is good on this truck.

My question was not whether it was good, all head gaskets are good until they fail. I was specifically asking if/when it was changed. The M104 head gasket is well known as having a high failure rate.

@Orange911 Thank you for your interest, the head gasket is good on this truck.

  • useppaisland (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

    Hi,
Can you post the service history?
This vehicle has a lot of miles. Need to see if it was serviced properly. Service on the vehicle is key . If you do not have documentation of all service history you are in for unpleasant service expenses.

  • useppaisland (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

    Hi,
Is there any rust on this vehicle? These vehicles are notorious for rust especially around the rear bumper.
Too bad it does not have a manual transmission. You get much more torque and power from a manual transmission.
