Up for auction is this 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera Targa finished in Polar Silver Metallic. One of only 462 examples sold in the U.S. for the model year, this Carrera Targa is one of the rarest 993s of all and features a unique sliding glass roof system along with model-specific two-piece wheels. This Targa sold new from Jim Ellis Porsche of Atlanta equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as a special two-tone Grey and Midnight Blue interior with heated supple leather seats and deviated carpets. It benefits from a major recent service completed at a cost of approximately $15k including new Bilstein shocks, an overhaul of the air conditioning system, new tires, cryo-blasting of the undercarriage, engine seals, brake hoses, and much more. Accompanied by the original window sticker, this one-owner 993 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California with just over 35k miles on the odometer.
This 993 comes finished in Polar Silver Metallic and rides on factory 17” 2-piece Targa wheels with optional Porsche crest center caps and new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires. The 993 was the first 911 Targa to use a sliding glass roof system in favor of the traditional pop-out roof panel as seen on models prior. The seller describes the finish to be very well preserved with only a few small chips throughout the exterior. The front bumper is said to have been previously refinished to address road-going wear, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is trimmed in a special two-tone combination of Grey and Midnight Blue leather with deviated blue carpets and optional supple leather seats. Factory equipment includes a full power-operated driver’s seat, cruise control, power side mirrors and windows, remote central locking, climate control, and a Becker Porsche CR-210 cassette radio. The hood and decklid struts have been replaced as part of a major recent service along with an overhaul of the A/C system including a new condenser and fan resistor. Some minor signs of wear are depicted on the seating surfaces and the seller confirms the sliding roof mechanism to be working properly.
The last of the air-cooled 911 Targas, this 993 is equipped with a 3.6L flat-six Varioram engine which sends up to 282 HP to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The CARFAX report highlights 12 service entries dating from 2003-2020 and the seller notes the undercarriage has been recently detailed using cryo-blasting technology. I hate everything about this car. I hate it's not in my garage. I hate the really cool targa top. I hate the money its's going bring. I just sold my 991 turboS and I hate the anxiety this car brings me cause I'm afraid to bid. (I love the car)
Hello and welcome! As you can tell from the photos and description, this 993 Targa is about as good as it gets. When it first arrived to us, our initial inspection gave us a decent to-do list. Jan at V&S Motors went through and really brought this Targa up to speed. It's easily one of the nicest and tightest 993's we've had over the years.
