@904042 I meant the seller of the Yellow 993 on Bat

  • 904042 (registered bidder) 4 yearsago

@waydeki Look at the comments about the seller......no worries, as his reputation doubles for a PPI. The info provided and the large number of comments is an education in itself!

  • waydeki (registered bidder) 4 yearsago

Yellow 95 on BaT is already at nearly $60k. $56 for this is reasonable. AR is perfect on the 993 body.

  • 904042 (registered bidder) 4 yearsago

Hense, buying without a PPI is tough!

  • Axecap911 (registered bidder) 4 yearsago

Market has been softening on the 993 for sure but maintenance costs are still very high!

@Jpfrazier4211 I saw everything you provided. The books and sales lit might be important to a collector or salesman. The service records were too small to read and the Car Fax pages were lacking detail....."serviced" means what? Your response gave a little more detail on the AC which is important. A highly detailed service record would have helped the bidders feel comfortable about bidding more on a car approaching the mileage that may start requiring the really expensive stuff. You've seen the records, I haven't. It is a beauty, though! Thanks

@904042 ,Sorry you missed the picture of the stack of books, manuals, service tickets as well as Carfax showing services.
There is extensive services performed on this car with consistency and regularity.
No top end has been done as a Porsche with this mileage and service history should not need a top end rebuild.
Air conditioning has had a recent refurbish including new evaporator, consistent oil services throughout the life of the car, alternator exchange, new ECU,brake flushes, valve cover gaskets, shocks, brakes,Swepco additive, front and rear hood shocks, ignition wire set.
Nicely serviced and well looked after example.

This is one beautiful car with many of the best options! I am concerned about no visible service history, however. I'm glad the car has been driven instead of just sitting around. But, but when you say a "recent major service", I think of top end rebuild, new clutch, engine out service, new AC (not just recharges). When were the brakes & fluid replaced? Are shocks original? Sorry to seem unappreciative, but I'm thinking about marrying this baby and I'd like to know more about her! Thanks

I consulted with one of the leading paint and body men in the US(His work has won three Pebble Beach Awards) about the characteristics of the meter readings and the absolute absence of any sign of paint work or damage on this car.First,he kind of laughed at us for making a thing out of such low readings. He then stated he felt the car had factory or port work on the clear coat finish of the drivers side.
Not one person that has been in contact with this car since it has been in the public domain has any history of paint or damage to the car.

Paint meter readings have been added to the photo gallery.

@JimBezanson To all concerning paintwork on the 993 coupe.First,I want to state that I have traded Porsche cars for over 44 years. One does not assume or presume history of a car,we do our homework and what tools are available to us to discern history if we do not have documentation of an historical event in the cars life.
THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT! Previous owners had no idea this car had any paintwork. As a 40 plus year history and literally thousands of air cooled Porsche cars going thru my tutelage,I would not have known if a paint meter had not shown me different.
I have submitted paint meter readings as well as profile pictures of drivers side and jams showing how absolutely straight the sides are on the car and jam pictures showing no tape lines.
The panels on this car are razor straight, the jams are slick and smooth as a factory jam would look and feel. There is NO inconsistency in paint ,orange peel,or color, paint looks exactly like the remaining panels.
If a car has had sheet metal damaged it is extremely challenging to get the stretched metal back to perfection, void of some type of inconsistency of the plane on the panel. This car has no inconsistencies.

The majority of body shops do not report to Carfax so not surprised that is no record of an accident. For this reason, legit listings are often matched with photos of paint readings these days.

For sure if all three left side panels were repainted then it was more than the old "shopping cart in the parking lot" story.

    Please post paint readings

Seller there is no indication on CarFax regarding the drivers side fender, door and quarter panel being refinished. Agree it looks to have been well done. This car checks a lot of the right boxes for me. However, the complete drivers side needing work leads me to conclude that the damage was more than minor. It would provide me reassurance to understand why it was done; the extent of the work; etc.
    Thanks
    Jim
