One of just over 1,000 U.S. examples produced for the model year, this 1997 Turbo was sold new in California and came finished in Speed Yellow (50) over a black full leather interior. In 2008, it was brought to the RUF Auto Centre in Texas to be fitted with an upgraded RUF Turbo R suspension, a pedal set, and other RUF accessories. A genuine European-spec front bumper has also been installed as well as a full OEM carbon-fiber interior trim set and matching carbon fiber steering wheel. Acquired by the seller in January of 2021, this Turbo has spent much of its life between private collections and is now being offered for auction out of Virginia showing less than 16k miles on the odometer and accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

This 993 comes finished in Speed Yellow, one of the most iconic Porsche colors of the 1990s. OEM oval exhaust tips have been added along with an OEM European-spec front bumper including Turbo S air scoops, clear turn signals lenses, and Gert's front protection bar. The front bumper was finished and installed at Road Scholars Restorations of North Carolina in 2012. The hood, front fenders, and bumper have been covered under clear paint protection film and the full exterior has been treated with ceramic coating, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. The factory lightweight 18” Technology hollow-spoke wheels come dressed in a set of Bridgestone Potenza S02 tires.

Inside, this Turbo features black full leather upholstery extending from the seats to the door panels, dashboard, and center console. Factory equipment includes an electric sunroof, automatic speed control, a rear window wiper, onboard computer, Litronic xenon headlights, self-dimming mirrors, and a rain sensor. The cabin has been retrofitted with a complete OEM carbon fiber interior package along with a matching shift knob, handbrake lever, and steering wheel sourced from a Turbo S.  Other OEM additions include seatbelts in Speed Yellow, stainless steel door entry guards, and a Nokia DSP audio system.

The 993 carries an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine equipped with twin KKK type K-16 turbochargers, dual-charge air intercoolers, hydraulic lifters, and Bosch Motronic M 5.2 engine management. All four wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission with Active Brake Differential (ABD) and a limited-slip differential equipped as standard. Stopping power is handled by red-painted fixed four-piston aluminum Brembo brake calipers paired with 322mm rotors front and rear.  The RUF Turbo R suspension features Bilstein shock absorbers and RUF 23mm front, 21mm rear sway bars. The suspension was further upgraded with an AJ-USA front strut bar and RoW specification springs for a lower stance. A Robin’s modified OEM RSR muffler has also been equipped and updated OEM boost hoses were installed by RUF in 2008. The seller reports no expense was spared in keeping this 993 Turbo in top running order and has provided an extensive collection of service records available for reference in the gallery.

This sale will include a binder of service records, the original owner's manuals and sales literature, a set of two keys, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.  Presented in the coveted shade of Speed Yellow while featuring rare OEM accessories and RUF upgrades, this stunning 1997 example may very well be the 993 Turbo missing from your collection. Do not let this opportunity pass you by.

I have been lucky enough to see this 993 in person on a few occasions. It is truly an excitement just to see it. The condition is the first thing that JUMPS out at you. You can tell this car is a gem very quickly. The first time I glanced at the odo I knew I was in the presence of a great one.

The owner is a very nice gentleman. I hope this stays local for my own greedy viewing pleasure…but just know whoever buys this is getting “the one to buy”…at least for my money.

@Ravenna45 I'm not sure about the smog test, I do know the car still has all the orginal convertor etc. Also, the car originally came out of California. These tires and rims where reconditioned and put in a box on 2008 as the prior owner had purchased RUF wheels when he did the conversion. When I purchased the car we put these tires and original rims on the car. The tires are essentially have 1000 miles in them and have only been on the car this past year since being stored in a box in storage

Being in California I am concerned about the original smog equipment on this car. Could you fill me in please?
The tires seem a bit older are they worn and please let me know the production dates.
    many thanks.

As a 14 years of experience certified Gold Master Porsche technician at a high volume dealership. This is the cleanest most perfect speed yellow 993 turbo I have ever seen, driven and hoisted on the lift. It is every bit of a jaw dropping time capsule. Collector car, museum vehicle as if it just came out of the factory production line. This car is so much better in person then in the photos. It drives better then all the other 993 turbos I have been in. Sounds healthier then all the other ones in person. I have known the owner for serval years. He his a perfectionist anything less is not acceptable. With true Porsche passion at heart. This vehicle is greater then just an investment. It is what Porsche is to the core and soul and I don’t know of any other speed yellow 993 turbo that can represent itself like this one does.

@nosubstitute4porsche that was one of two RUF authorized dealers in the United States, Texas and Chicago . Their technicians were all from the RUF in Germany. From my understanding the increase in the royalties that RUF started to charge lead them to changing the name of the shop. You can call and speak to them directly. He is also sending me a photo of a paste newspaper article confirming they were a RUF shop with RUF technicians that I will upload the gallery once received.

  • nosubstitute4porsche (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@RedDoorMetro thank you... sir.. so your understanding is the actual RUF technicians did the work? I just would like to have that confirmed please?

  • RedDoorMetro (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@nosubstitute4porsche that is a microfiber towel that is laid down under the tire, just another layer of protection. From my understanding the RUF Auto Centre in Texas had German technicians to do the work. They were the go to place in the US for RUF. Here is a link to their website, they updated the name to RAC now. https://www.racperformance.com/

@seller thanks for offering this beautiful car for auction. Can you please elaborate on photo 91? What is under the spare tire? I do not recognize what the "blue" is under the wheel?
Lastly did a RUF mechanic from Pfaffenhaussen do the work in Texas or not? Thank you again.

Could I inquire about the make of your four post lift, while we have some time left to go before the auction gets close to then end? It looks perhaps narrower than some..

@PorscheLover thank you fir the question. EVEEYTHING in the car is working and in PERFECT order, the vehicle is flawless. The carbon is from Porsche OEM and the steering wheel was from a Turbo S model

What an absolutely beautiful car. Is the carbon fiber standard or has it been added later? Wondering why its not on the Porsche COA. The COA doesn’t list too many options. Can you also Please confirm all electronics work on the car. Thanks in advance!

@My911turbos Why no hard back sport seats?

  • My911turbos (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Porsche911channel - The car really does look great. I also appreciate how the owner left the original cosmoline intact. One look and you know it’s original mileage.

  • Porsche911channel (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Hey Folks, I personally know this car and this one is as flawless as can be. I competed against it with my GP white 993TT in the Deutsch Marque Concours D’elegance in VA and this car blew every car out of the water and got best in class and best in show. I came in second. It is 100% the real deal with original paint. It has a full book documenting every detail of its life that was presented at the show. Also, the RUF suspension gives the car the perfect stance and handling, not to mention the Turbo S Exclusive interior. Who ever gets this one will have one of the best 993 TT out there on one of the best colors bar none.

  • My911turbos (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

FWIW, I own a 3,900 mile 993 turbo. The doors meter at 4.5, the rear quarter panels at 6.5, and the roof at 8. Exactly like this car it seems. My car has a clean carfax and was purchased 15 years ago at less than MSRP (I’m the second owner). Point being I find it hard to believe that a repaint would be expensive enough on two opposite doors or the entire rear ended, or somehow the roof(?), that it wouldn’t be claimed on a then $90k car.

  • 911guy 2 years, 3 monthsago

I have looked at photo 100 and 101...both are readings taken on top of the PPF at the rear quarter/stone guard area, so they would be expected to be in this range. I apologize if I'm still not answering your question/concern. Perhaps if you press the 'contact the seller' option, we can dialogue on the phone when he returns from travel this coming weekend. Easier and more helpful to do it that way. Thank you.

  • Thill69 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@911guy… it’s hard to tell where the pics are taken from. I would say that my opening bid at least says that I’m not too concerned and have faith that the car can/will be delivered as presented..

  • 911guy 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Thill69 100 and 100 were taken specifically to show how the PPF 'adds' to the paint meter readings...most PPF adds around 8ML to the actual paint below it...so these are still good numbers when you subtract the 8ML. the 8.0ML reading position is just above the others at 5.6 I know from doing this process that it is critical to hold the meter exactly parallel to the body panel, and not easy to do on the beautiful curves of a 993 wide body. I bet if I took it again it would read differently and consistent with the other two readings taken just inches apart. Does that help?

  • Thill69 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@911guy… actually I was looking at the car correctly. The right (passenger) door readings are pictures 100-101… 16.5 and 15 mils respectively

  • Thill69 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@911guy.. I appreciate your help. Obviously I was looking at the car wrong. Hard to tell in some photos but to clarify, pictures 100-101 are way off at over 15 mil. and pictures 102-104 are also over 8 mil…

  • 911guy 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Thill69 If I am following your question correctly, the readings are 4.5 for the middle of the right door and 6.5 for the right rear quarter. In my opinion and experience, absolutely not indicative of paint or body work. Remember, the doors on these cars were not only painted by humans vs. today's robot painters (where paint meter readings are WAY more consistent), but they were also painted off the car and reunited with the body during final assembly. Happy to respond again if I missed your question.

  • RedDoorMetro (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Hello everyone, thank you for taking a look at this amazing vehicle. I will be traveling for the next few days oh, and my responses may be a little delayed. But please if you have any questions or would like to know anything else about the car please do not hesitate to ask. If you're in the northern Virginia outside of Washington DC area I can make the car available for anyone to come and do any type of inspection that they wish. HappyBidding

@Thill69 sorry fo the late reply, I'm 9ntravel for a few more days. No the car has not had any paint work other than the front bumper being replaced. I will have the PCA Concours Judge who judges the car in the last Concours and also did the paint meter readings. He will be able to confirm the car is flawless and PERFECT in every way

  • ApertureGarage 2 years, 3 monthsago

@goldenappple We photographed the glamor shots at sunset. I can confirm this car has an incredible bright speed yellow paint that is flawless. I went over the exterior inch by inch looking for any nicks or chips to photograph and there is none. The color you seen in the door jams is the same color on the whole car. The video colors are flat and do not do it justice.

  • goldenappple 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Lottacars it ABSOLUTELY appears orange in the photos. We're talking Tangerine...not a little orange, like a traffic cone orange. Wow! Videos clearly show yellow. GLWA.

  • Thill69 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Seems to be some inconsistencies in the paint meter readings beyond the front end (particularly the middle of the right door and right rear quarter panel)

Can you confirm whether the car has had paint work or not?

  • Lottacars (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Nice car. Maybe think about changing the lead- -in photo. Looks orange. I actually was interested to see if orange was a PTS color or what. Good luck
