34k-Mile 1998 BMW E36 M3 Convertible

Now up for auction is this 1998 BMW E36 M3 Convertible finished in Estoril Blue over a Dove Gray leather interior.  This well-equipped second-generation M3 is reported to have been under the care of its original owner from new up until the seller’s recent purchase in 2020.  Equipped with BMW’s venerable S52 engine, this facelift 1998 example also came factory optioned with forged 17” wheels, a Harman/Kardon Premium Sound System, an onboard computer, heated seats, and a 5-speed automatic transmission with sport and manual driving modes.  A lifelong California car, this highly collectible M3 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Marin County, CA. while showing just over 34k-miles on the odometer.

This M3 is finished in the iconic shade of Estoril Blue with a matching blue convertible soft top.  The car is described to be highly original with factory labels remaining in place throughout the body.  The seller also notes the convertible top to have been well preserved throughout the years, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings a clean CARFAX report.  The factory 17” Style 24 wheels have just recently been dressed in a set of new tires in preparation for sale. A matching full-size spare is included in the trunk.

Inside, this E36 is appointed with a Dove Gray leather interior with heated and power-adjustable front seats.  Other factory equipment includes an onboard computer, cruise control, keyless entry, an alarm system, and a Harman/Kardon Premium Sound System.  The driver’s seat bolster exhibits minor signs of wear and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional including the climate control system and power convertible top.

This E36 carries a naturally aspirated 3.2L S52 inline 6-cylinder engine which sends 240 HP and 236 lb.-ft to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed automatic transmission with sport and manual driving modes.  CARFAX shows routine maintenance to have been carried out by an authorized BMW dealer with the last documented service performed in 2019 at 34,285 miles.  Images of the underbody are provided in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a set of keys, owner's manuals, tools, the original rear window protection pad, a full-size spare, and a clean title.  A true modern classic, this nicely preserved E36 M3 would make a fine choice for any European car enthusiast.

@Kraftwerk anything can be done for enough $. Easier to go the other way. This is a lovely E 36 M3, that is almost an investment cat with low miles, great history. Converting to a manual would seriously decrease value IMHO.

you’re correct, not as many cabriolets manuals ... girls tend to buy them and for various reasons prefer autos. I’m probably going to get pushback for saying this, but it comes from my friends who are dealers. They strongly prefer automatic cabriolets with few exceptions, most notably 911s.

TBH I get it. It’s fun to drop the top and go cruising and not worry about shifting. Usually lower maintenance costs in autos as well.

@SeaDooRider68 Yes always serviced at the same dealer, although CARFAX shows great detail of the records I should also be able to get a print out from the dealer

  • SeaDooRider68 (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Beautiful car. Are there any service records? I see the service at BMW Concord. Was all service done at dealer?
