A British sports car icon, the original Lotus Esprit was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and was produced over five generations from 1976 to 2004. The final evolution of the Esprit culminated in the S4 model which offered freshened styling for the 1990s as well as a model equipped with Lotus’s own twin-turbocharged Type 918 V8 engine beginning in 1996. This 1998 example was acquired by the current owner about two years ago after it had been in the previous owner’s storage for approximately 10 years and has since undergone several modifications as well as extensive mechanical refurbishment. Showing approximately 35k kilometers or just under 22k miles on the odometer, this Lotus Esprit V8 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.

The styling of the Series 4 Lotus Esprit was refined by Julian Thomson and included new bumpers, side skirts, valence panels, and a smaller tailgate-mounted wing. The Esprit V8 model features a revised front air dam and V8 badges on the rear quarter windows and center tail panel. Equipment includes interchangeable glass and body-colored roof panels, tinted glass, pop-up headlamps, dual halogen fog lights, and heated electric side-view mirrors. This example is finished in Dark Blue Metallic (B42) and features a Final Edition rear valence insert as well as aftermarket LED headlamps and black-painted 17”/18” OZ Nova wheels dressed in new Continental tires. The seller describes the exterior to be in very good condition with a small scratch noted on the hood. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is upholstered in Magnolia leather (XX18) with matching carpets and deviated blue seat piping. Factory equipment includes a heated rear window defroster, satin silver instrument and shifter surrounds, air conditioning, power windows and door locks, and green-illuminated VDO gauges with a digital odometer. A custom sound system has also been added including a flip-up Alpine head unit display, a Morel amplifier, and a subwoofer. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

The Esprit V8 is powered by an all-aluminum Type 918 3.5-liter V8 DOHC engine with 4 valves per cylinder, a flat-plane crankshaft, and twin Garrett T25/60 turbochargers. An output of up to 350 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a Lotus-modified Renault 5-speed manual transaxle. The Esprit V8 comes standard with a four-wheel independent transverse link tuned suspension system as well as ventilated disc brakes with Brembo calipers and ABS at each corner. New high-flow catalytic converters were installed by the current owner along with new brakes, stainless steel brake lines, turbo actuators, axle seals, and two new axle shafts.
