Among the rarest variants of the 993 generation, the Targa was based on the contemporary Carrera Cabriolet and featured a new sliding glass roof system that provided more comfort than previous Targa models while preserving a more traditional Coupe silhouette. This example is one of only 122 Targas produced for the North American market in 1998, the final year of the air-cooled Porsche 911. It comes finished in Arctic Silver over a Black interior with optional 8-way power-operated seats in supple leather. It was also factory-equipped with the Motor Sound Package and a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. With some tasteful modifications including Gemballa side skirts, RS-style front splitters, and Kinesis wheels, this rare final-year 993 Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Georgia while showing approximately 42k miles on the odometer.

The Porsche 993 Carrera Targa is characterized by its unique power hardtop roof system featuring a thermally insulated glass panel that slides back under the rear window at the touch of a switch to provide an open-air driving experience. This example is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and features RS-style front splitters, Gemballa side skirts, and 18” Kinesis K28 three-piece wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps. Other equipment includes integrated front fog lights, a speed-activated rear spoiler, a “basket handle” brake light spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, and black brake calipers with white Porsche lettering. The car rides on a set of Continental ExtremeContact tires from 2013. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Black interior features optional 8-way power-adjustable front seats in supple leather upholstery along with matching rear seats and a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel. Other accessories include an aluminum-trimmed gear knob and parking brake lever, TechArt pedal covers, custom black carpet floor mats with red “PORSCHE”’ logos, aluminum instrument dials, power windows and mirrors, a retractable sunshade, a glass wind deflector strip, a sound system, automatic climate control, cruise control, and an original Porsche CR-210 cassette stereo. The seller notes some signs of wear are present on the seats and all gauges and accessories remain fully functional.

This 993 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six featuring a VarioRam induction system and the optional Motor Sound Package which adds a louder airbox and mufflers for a more aggressive tone. Up to 282 HP and 250 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. Service invoices provided by the seller show engine belts replaced in 2023 along with new steering rack boots, inner tie rods, valve cover gaskets, and a new battery.

This sale will include owner’s manuals and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Final production year 993 Targa with just 42k miles. Made in the years 1993 through 1998, the 993 was the last of the air-cooled Porsches, making it a true favorite among real 911 lovers for its resemblance to the original late-60s 911. For that brief 5-year time, it was only within the final three that Porsche created its Targa variant. In the time paving the way to its reveal, Stuttgart said that it would not create such a model, yet when 1995 came around, it was right there, highlighting a convertible body with a retractable glass rooftop.”

That’s a big gap on price. Personally think the final bid was pretty fair for a 6 owner car with multiple mods & 10 year old tires (albeit a very nice example)..!

@merlinautogroup photo 107 & 109... If you can only get 107, it will likely be the same on both sides. Knowing that the oil filter housing is in the way on 109... 107 may be the best option to show whats going on in there. Thank you for helping to better show this area.

  • X98boardwell (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

    @merlinautogroup

I see the pics you posted. You are too far away without any kind of light to help the photo inside that side skirt. If you get closer and use light (the area in front of the rear wheel inside the Gemballa side skirt), you will see what I'm talking about. I'm starting to wonder why you are not showing that area due to metal being cut. Considering how much these cars are going for these days... full transparency is key.

@ArtVandelay The shifter knob does not look like the stock unit> There is not a record of it being replaced, but it does appear to be aftermarket.

  • ArtVandelay (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Can you confirm here that the shifter is not stock?

  • merlinautogroup (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

@X98boardwell I will take some underside photos of that area and have them uploaded shortly.

  • X98boardwell (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

@merlinautogroup the spoiler? I’m referring to the brake duct in front of the rear wheel. I haven’t seen those side skirts installed without some kind of cut in the metal. You should be able to look from underneath the car in front of the rear wheel to see what and how much was cut. I just removed my Gemballa side skirts and had to repair metal before paint a few months ago. I’m just making sure the potential buyer is aware what could be underneath that brake cooling intake.

  • merlinautogroup (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

@X98boardwell The kit was installed before we acquired the vehicle. The spoiler was removed and the original was put back on and there was no sign of any cutting or damage for that.

  • X98boardwell (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

How much metal was cut during installation of the Gemballa side skirts? May want to let buyers know what happens typically with these during install so they’re fully aware.

I appreciate the paint meter numbers. Only the finest and smartest buyers in the world know what they mean. It's like a secret club that only the paint meter guys belong to and get to meet once a year in Davos with shrimp and oysters. You can't be a member. Sorry I just find the paint meter to be the most annoying thing in the world.
    Nice targa. GLWS.

@merlinautogroup great looking car. Do all the electronics work as designed? AC, heat, clock, windows, roof, gauges, any dash lights. It also looks like the front bumper and hood were repainted at some point. Can you show pictures under the frunk carpet in the front corners? Do you have any compression or leak down numbers? Can we see a cold start from the rear? Interested. TIA

  • Msolei (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

Thanks for quick notes here seller.

  • merlinautogroup (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@flatcrank @Msolei Our CPT Gold Meister Technician with over two decades of Porsche expertise has looked at the vehicle and said the sticker is on crooked like that from the factory as he has seen some that are even more sideways. As for the motorsound upgrade, the piece could have easily been removed by the previous owner and sold or put onto a different car. If the new buyer of this car would like one back on, we would be happy to help locate one and install it.

  • merlinautogroup (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@flatcrank @Msolei The paint is all original, paint meter photos will be posted shortly. Unfortunately, we do not have the original wheels.

  • Msolei (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@flatcrank good question on paint metering, can we get that @seller? Also, any chance you still have the original wheels?

  • flatcrank (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

the options and description both state motor sound, but the engine photo shows the airbox missing the motorsound upgrade. (btw. as far as I know motorsound package does not change the mufflers)
the option codes sticker was never perfectly straight when applied at the factory but this one looks to have been removed, presumably for a respray.
does the vehicle history include information about paint work perhaps at the time of installing the side skirts?

@Balibay Just added, see image 87

  • Balibay (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

Maybe I missed it - if so, I apologize. Is there a close up photo of option sticker?

  • merlinautogroup (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@ponyup great question. The 45k mile was a guesstimate that our service team put in when opening the RO for the vehicle and it was never changed to the actual mileage of the vehicle on that RO. We have owned the vehicle since 2022 and our services do not show up on Carfax.

  • ponyup (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

The mileage in the listing shows 41, 974 but the service repairs are showing 45,000/45,010 on the repair order. Just looking for clarification on this. Also not seeing any recent entries in Carfax since 2021.
