The first generation of Mercedes-Benz SLK, the R170, was introduced in 1996 featuring the Vario-Roof retractable hardtop system. This 1999 example was delivered in Brilliant Silver Metallic over a Charcoal leather interior and optioned with a 5-speed manual transmission as well as the Sport Package which is inclusive of the AMG Styling Package and 17” AMG wheels. Acquired by the seller from the original owner in February of 2021, this SLK is accompanied by service records from new and has recently received considerable refurbishment including new spark plugs, transmission and differential fluid, a new fuel filter, headlights, new supercharger oil, refinished wheels, Bilstein shocks, new Vogtland lowering springs, belts, new Alpine head unit, new convertible top parts, and an oil and filter change. This 1999 SLK 230 Kompressor is now being offered at auction by its seller based out of New Jersey showing approximately 35k miles on the odometer.

The exterior is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744U) with a power Vario-Roof retractable hardtop. The optional AMG Styling Package equips AMG aerodynamic bumpers, side sills, and integrated projector beam fog lamps. Other equipment includes a mesh front grille, headlight washers, dual integrated roll bars, heated side mirrors, a heated windshield washer system, a wind deflector, and a polished single exhaust tip. The convertible top has recently received new actuators, a new switch, and a new roof cylinder. The seller reports the front fender was refinished under prior ownership and the front bumper has been repainted to address stone chips. The seller also notes a small spot of rust on the top edge of the passenger side fender arch, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The optional 17” AMG wheels have been refinished and mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires showing date codes of 2014 in the front and 2015 in the rear.

The cabin features 6-way power adjustable seats upholstered in Charcoal leather accented by Carbon Fiber Optic interior trim. Amenities include dual-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power accessories, remote keyless entry, cruise control, tinted glass, and an Alpine CDE-127BT head unit with Bluetooth connected to the factory 6-speaker sound system. The seller reports the headliner has been repaired for sagging and notes a few small marks present on the center console and driver’s side dashboard, as well as a small crack in the plastic of the center console.

The SLK 230 Kompressor is powered by a 2.3L supercharged M111.973 inline-four-cylinder engine, which generates up to 190 HP and 207 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by a 5-speed manual transmission. Under current ownership, new spark plugs were installed, as well as a new air filter, flush and refill of the transmission, supercharger, and differential fluids, a new fuel filter, new Bilstein shocks, new Vogtland lowering springs, new drive belts, repair of the hood release, and an oil and filter change in May of 2022. Copies of service history since new will be provided with the sale.

This sale will include three keys, the original window sticker, sales literature, the original springs, the original radio, and extra oil filters.

    @Ambassador-Auto , that’s a bummer. Wished I would have noticed before I bid.
    Ok, thanks for the info.

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

    @Woodrm64 thanks for the question. You are correct regarding the window sticker and that the car does not have cruise control. I am not sure why it was deleted, but clearly was during production.

  • Woodrm64 (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

    Sorry - does this car NOT have cruise control?

  • Woodrm64 (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

    I just noticed a -$200 credit for Cruise Control on the original window sticker. Does this car now have cruise control?

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

    @Tranquilo I am not sure. Thanks for reaching ot. As all the documents show in the gallery, there was no lack of maintenance or care given to this vehicle through its entire life with every document from day one. The second owner just picked up where the first left off and handled any items that hadn't been addressed yet through its life and mostly items that would need to be replaced just due to age. As far as surface rust, there is really very little overall. The only items that have any on them are suspension pieces and rear steel cross bracing. The chassis and any other components are surpassingly spotless.

    any idea why so much refurbishment needed to take place on such a low mileage car? and rust, too?
