Up for auction is this 2002 BMW E46 M3 Coupe finished in Jet Black over a Cinnamon leather interior.  Representing the 3rd generation of the venerable BMW M3 sports car, the E46 is equipped with an S54 inline 6-cylinder engine that sends power to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission.  This M3 is said to have been well maintained throughout its life while remaining true to its original specifications.  Increasingly sought after and highly original, this Canadian-market 2002 example now being offered for auction by its seller in Ontario with approximately 96k kilometers (60k miles) showing on the odometer.

The Jet Black paint on this E46 is noted to be in great overall condition and this car is said to have always been garage kept.  Some slight cosmetic imperfections are depicited in the photo gallery.  Wider wheel arches, a redesigned front bumper, and front fender grilles help distinguish the M3 from a standard 3-Series.  This E46 rides on factory 19” M double-spoke wheels and the seller has indicated some minor curb rash.

Inside, you will find a nicely presented Cinnamon leather interior with minimal imperfections including a slight tear at the bottom of the driver's seatback. Unique model-specific details include an M sport steering wheel and M door sill logos.  The only noted flaw is some minor wear on the driver’s seat bolster.  The original radio remains in place and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

The naturally aspirated 3.2-liter S54 inline 6-cylinder DOHC engine features VANOS variable valve timing. 333 HP and 262 lb.-ft of torque stock are delivered to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed Getrag manual transmission.  CARFAX shows the most recent service to have been carried out in December of 2020 at just under 60k miles.  The rod bearings are said to have been done, some maintenance records are provided for reference in the photo gallery, and the seller reports this M3 to be in excellent running order.

This M3 will be sold with a clean title and original owner's manuals.  Well preserved E46 M3s are more collectible than ever, and this Black over Cinnamon leather 2002 example is no exception.

@KPW415 I might be thinking of the Caramel interiors in e39 M5s - they always show wear at what seems like 2x the rate of more common interiors. With e46 M3 / Z4M seats, the left driver side bolster takes most of the abuse and here it's mint. It wouldn't be difficult to replace the doorcard with a near-new one, there are lots floating around.

Seats look to be original and no evidence of dye to my eyes. As for the door handle, I am really not sure...I suppose it could have been touched up at some point. I know the door handles are prone to wear on these cars.

@e86s54 seats look ok to me. Just my 2 cents, looks like the seller did a good job giving good photos with enough lighting to accurately describe the car to Pcar. I had a convertible with the cinnamon interior and this is how my seats looked up until 100k mi when I sold it. Good luck to the winner.

@Neb33 Looks like a repair to me? I wonder if the seats have been refinished too, because Cinnamon wears much worse than more common black Nappa interior

Just noticed, the front door handle on the inside, what happened to the trim? It is usually plastic, this looks wrinkled and duct tape like?

@Jarod964 do you know if the rod bearings have been replaced?

  • Jarod964 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Neb33 I do not have a startup video on hand, forgot to film it when I did the walk-around, but I can assure you it starts/runs/sounds exactly as an E46 M3 should. Please see my earlier comments for info on the subframe.

Hi seller, any videos of start up? Sub frame been inspected?

@e86s54 It certainly feels like it's lived a pampered life. Its really a 4-owner car, owners 5/6 on CarFax are just dealer inventory.

  • e86s54 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

This car must have been babied - front undertray and bumper underside aren't scraped! What's the deal with the owner history - owners 5 and 6 picked it up and put no mileage on since May 2020? Is that an artifact of how dealer regs work on CarFax?

@acquired Subframe is original and free of any cracks/damage - I believe I attached a photo in the gallery. All looks great.

@PBanach Please read my earlier comment regarding shipping/brokerage to the US. Very straightforward and happy to help.

Hi - can you please comment on the sub-frame? Thanks in advance!

  • PBanach (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

What other cost would be applied to ship this from Canada to the US. Is there additional import taxes or fees when crossing the boarder?

What’s going on with the trim on the driver side door panel?

    Imperfections include:
    - Worn shift knob face (pictured)
    - Hairline crack on centre A/C vent (pictured)
    - Slight tear at bottom of the driver seatback (pictured)
    - Some road rash on the front bumper (pictured)
    - A door ding on the passenger rear quarter (shown in video)
    - Some stone chips on the mirrors (shown in video)
    - Some strange dots in the finish on a couple of the wheels (pictured)
?Overall the car shows exceptionally well for nearly 20 years old. You won’t be disappointed.

You are bidding to own an exceptionally clean, 100% original E46 M3. It’s nearly impossible to find these cars unmodified, but this example is absolutely factory fresh. Never winter driven, and it shows (removed from storage to photograph, but did NOT take the car on the road, just pics then back inside). Engine sounds perfect, shifting is extremely crisp, and it still even has a bit of new car smell!

Although it’s registered in Canada, I can have this car imported to the US and dropped at a shipping depot of your choice in Detroit for around $2k (roughly $250 brokerage fee, ~2.9% duty/fees, $1k shipping). Then you just need to arrange domestic shipping from Detroit to home (I recommend reliable carriers) and register in your state like you would any other car. Happy to help with the heavy lifting on import - its very straightforward.

I’d love to do a driving video to demonstrate how tight and strong this thing really is, but with so much slush and salt on the road, it’s not worth it on such a clean car. Trust me when I tell you it is the freshest E46 I’ve seen.
