Based on the BMW Z8 Roadster, the Alpina Z8 was introduced in 2003 featuring special improvements for grand touring. The E39 M5-derived S62 V8 was replaced with a 4.8L Alpina M62 V8, the suspension was softened, and a 5-speed Switch-Tronic automatic transmission was used in favor of a manual gearbox. This example is chassis #421 out of 555 produced and comes finished in Jet Black over a Black Nappa leather interior. It was first registered in Illinois and kept as part of a large collection since 2010 before being acquired by the seller earlier in 2022. Having covered just over 5k miles since new, this Alpina Z8 is now being offered at auction by its seller out of New Jersey.

The aluminum bodywork is finished in Jet Black (668) with a color-matched removable hardtop and black soft top. Equipment includes xenon headlights with washers, grille-mounted foglights, fender vents with BMW roundels, neon tube tail lights, Alpina badging below the trunklid, and dual polished exhaust tips. The 20” model-specific Alpina wheels manufactured by Ronal are mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires from 2003. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The dashboard, center console, and seats are trimmed in black Nappa leather (P1SW) accented by gloss black Alpina trim. Amenities include a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, remote keyless entry, a push-button ignition, air conditioning, navigation, and cruise control. Alpina-specific details include “421/555 BMW ALPINA ROADSTER” engraved into the ignition button, blue-faced Alpina gauges, a leather-wrapped three-spoke Alpina steering wheel with shift buttons on each side, Alpina embossed logos in the seat backrests, and BMW Alpina branded door sill guards.

The Alpina Z8 is powered by a 4.8L M62 V8 derived from the E39 Alpina B10 V8 S, featuring double-VANOS variable valve timing, individual throttle bodies, hollow camshafts, and an output of up to 375 HP and 396 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by a 5-speed Switch-Tronic automatic transmission, allowing for acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds with an electronically governed top speed of 161 MPH. Service carried out in preparation for sale is said to have included an oil change, brake fluid flush, a new fuel filter, and topped-off fluids as needed.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a car cover, a hardtop stand, and some maintenance documentation.

I wonder if this is the original engine and transmission. Is everything original on the car?
