Introduced in 2002 as the high-performance version of the second-generation C215 CL-Class, the CL55 AMG is equipped with a handbuilt 5.4L supercharged V8 producing 493 HP as well as an AMG Styling Package aerodynamic kit, larger brakes, and Active Body Control electro-hydraulic suspension system. This 2003 example was delivered new to Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach in Signal Hill, California in the special color of Designo Cashmere Pearl over an Exclusive AMG Java/Anthracite leather interior with red/brown curled maple Designo wood trim as part of the Designo Cashmere Edition Package. Benefitting from a history of Mercedes-Benz dealership service and the recent installation of new engine and transmission mounts, this 2003 CL55 AMG is now being offered at auction by its seller out of Georgia showing approximately 45k miles on the odometer.

The exterior is finished in Designo Cashmere Pearl (036U), a special four-stage paint selected at a premium as part of the $11,700 Designo Cashmere Edition Package. The AMG Styling Package equips an aggressive front air dam, side skirts, and a decklid spoiler. Other equipment includes bi-xenon headlights with washers, foglamps, chrome trim, silver brake calipers with black AMG script, polished AMG-branded quad exhaust finishers, power-folding heated door mirrors with integrated turn indicators, and pillarless side windows. The seller reports some paint chips in the hood, some minor scratches throughout, and a small paint bubble at the front edge of the sunroof, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The 18” chrome-finished five-double-spoke AMG wheels are mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires dated from 2019.

The cabin features 14-way power-adjustable heated, cooled, and massaging multicontour front seats upholstered in Java AMG Exclusive leather with an Anthracite leather-wrapped dashboard, door panels trimmed in two-tone Java and Anthracite leather, and an Anthracite Alcantara headliner. Curled maple Designo wood trim lines the center console, center stack, door panels, switch panels, rear console, and gear shift knob. Amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, a Mercedes COMAND infotainment screen with navigation, AMG-branded instrumentation, DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control, Keyless GO keyless entry, a 10-speaker BOSE premium sound system, a power rear window sunshade, AMG door sill guards, a power sunroof, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with shift buttons, a power-adjustable rearview mirror, and an integrated cell phone cradle in the center console. The seller reports the massage function of the driver’s seat is inoperable as well as the driver’s soft closing door feature. The pump controlling the central locking has also been recently replaced.

The CL55 AMG is equipped with a 5.4L supercharged M113 V8 which was factory rated at 493 HP and 516 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission, allowing for the CL55 to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 4.3 seconds with an electronically-controlled top speed of 155 MPH. Performance features include an adaptive Active Body Control suspension, lightweight two-piece cast iron/aluminum front hubs and rotors with 8-piston brake calipers in the front and 4-piston calipers in the rear, Electronic Stability Program, and Touch Shift buttons behind the steering wheel. A recent service included the replacement of the engine and transmission mounts as well as an inspection of the Active Body Control suspension.

This sale will include the original Keyless GO card, owner’s manuals, and a clean title.

@bruce.klein.rtut your best chance at owning this car is to properly submit a contractual offer through the system to show the seller you are serious. Once that is done our rep will discuss it with the seller and help get it accepted for you provided that it is in line. Fyi sellers are advised not to take any verbal offers seriously. Good luck

  • bruce.klein.rtut 1 year, 7 monthsago

@rpwhite0881 Sorry for the late reply. I did see your reply and I would have to spend at (and I'm just estimating) 3K for the repairs. I can offer higher than the finial bid, but not as much as you are asking.

  • PCARMARKET 1 year, 7 monthsago

@rpwhite0881 we have to ask that you don’t negotiate in the comments. This comment has been removed

@bruce.klein.rtut I will download some additional pics. Understand and this is not a daily driver for me either. That said, we have taken it to Florida a couple of times and I gotta tell you this is a great ride. As to the price, I would entertain an offer but I am not at this time going to let it go for much less. This is an extremely unique car and while not perfect it is perfect in all the ways that matter to me. The seats are super comfortable even without all the adjustments. The soft close door is to me more of a gimmick. I do wish we could talk in person as there is a lot of information I could share if I was not typing challenged

  • bruce.klein.rtut 1 year, 7 monthsago

Thanks again for the reply. Do you have any better pics of the driver's seat? This will not be a daily driver for me as I am retired. I see the Buy Now price, knowing the issues this car has based on your comments, what is a more realistic price that you are looking for. I do not feel 23.5K is the correct number for me on this one. Thanks

  • rpwhite0881 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@bruce.klein.rtut do you have any further questions?

  • rpwhite0881 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@rpwhite0881 I can give you some additional background on the car if/when we can talk.

  • rpwhite0881 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@bruce.klein.rtut service records only for the few things I have done. Replaced windshield washer lines, pump that controls door locks and trunk, trunk struts and just recently replaced the engine and transmission mounts

  • rpwhite0881 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@bruce.klein.rtut hi, as far as I know it is non smoker. I don’t smoke and I know the previous owner and he is also non smoker. No issues with ABC. it was completely tested at the beginning of the year and no issues.

  • bruce.klein.rtut 1 year, 7 monthsago

@rpwhite0881 Also. Do you have any service records?

  • bruce.klein.rtut 1 year, 7 monthsago

@rpwhite0881 Thank you for the quick reply. Can I assume this is a non smoker car.
Is there any issues with the ABC? I think this systems work fine as long as it is properly serviced. (drain the fluid and re-fill with MB fluids).

  • rpwhite0881 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

    @bruce.klein.rtut yes. Still available

  • bruce.klein.rtut 1 year, 7 monthsago

@FLCarNut it’s an aluminum or magnesium roof on these cars. I had a CL55 that did the same thing, it’s very common. The seal on the sunroof prob needs to be replaced to keep the dissimilar metals from touching and keeping water out. It’s something a lot of these cars suffer from and not something I ended up remedying.

@GTSECDrew Thanks for the bid....I have uploaded a few pictures of the underside of the car. Unfortunately I do not have access to lift and at 70 yrs of age I don't have the ability to get underneath the car.....Let me know if you want me to try and find a lift and I can do so tomorrow

@GTSECDrew Thanks for the feedback.....I will get some shots of the underside as best I can this evening. I will tell you that the car is immaculate in an out. People are shocked at how old the car is.

@rpwhite0881 930 is right, underside would be very helpful. not asking you to get it on a lift unless you have one but a few could easily be taken from the floor if you don't mind. A few other shots of the exterior with some better lighting would be nice too if you are able to do it. Much appreciated. I will throw a bid in so at least you know I am not just a looker.

    @930collector thanks

  • 930collector (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Hi. Just some helpful advice. I would get some more photos especially some showing the underside of the car. You may not see a good high bid on here unless potential buyers see this.

  • Crashklein 1 year, 7 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $500

  • rpwhite0881 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@FLCarNut thanks for the question. I would assume you are correct but I have been taking a wait and see attitude since the paint does not appear to be cracked and the area is not getting any bigger. I did recently find some touch up paint which I will include with the sale. Hope the answer helps

  • FLCarNut (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@rpwhite0881: Am I correct in assuming that the paint bubble next to the sunroof is due to rust? That's usually why paint bubbles up like that. Thanks in advance for your reply!

  • rpwhite0881 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@manuals4ever Only selling because I need the $$$. To be honest, in a perfect world, I would keep the car as I truly love it and love driving it.

  • manuals4ever (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

8th owner and only owned for less than a year... why are you selling?

  • rpwhite0881 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Hi All and welcome to the auction. I have to say that this is one of my favorite cars I have owned .... and I have owned 4 Corvettes, an Alpha Romeo, Plymouth Road Runner, SS396 and many others. Sorry to part with it but go it must. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them.
